Thank you so much! This is such a sweet compliment! We've learned more about each other and communication during this year on the road and through working together more than we've ever imagined! It has surprised us because we've always spent a lot of time together but this time has been on steroids! -Judy
Thank you so much, Kathleen! We are so glad you found us, too. Thank you so much for watching and for taking time out of your day to let us know. It truly warms our hearts! -Judy
Glad I found you. You inspire me to slow travel around the world. I lived in San Francisco in the 90s. I loved that city. One of my favorites. I have a good thing going on in Hawaii right now and won't be ready to travel until next year. . I'm researching what life would be like when I start traveling full time. Thank you for your educational and entertaining content.
Hi Renate, We have a bunch of resources for you. It looks like you are watching several of our videos, but you might want to be looking at these series particularly (this episode of course is one of them!). San Francisco is great and we really loved our apartment very much. BUT we knew we couldn't retire there because of the high cost of living. Hawaii is beautiful, and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying what you're doing. That's so important. One thing we mention in our 5 secrets video below is that you can have it look however you want. So if any part of how we do things doesn't work, you can change it up to suit yourself. How very cool! We do miss San Francisco quite a bit, but the high rent meant it was not a place for us to consider retiring there. Some of that is our choice. We had a very cool apartment in Pac Heights and got spoiled for anywhere else. We loved having public transportation and living in such a walkable city as well. Are you enjoying the cooler weather and the vibe in SF? It's quite a bit different from H-town. Thanks for watching and for dropping us a note! -Judy
I’m surprised that this great content isn’t getting more views. Maybe try hashtags? #adopted #search for birth mother #dual citizenship #retirement travel #moving to Europe
What a sweet comment, Carolina! We are so passionate about what we've been doing and we hope to inspire, entertain, and share our experiences with more people. Please share our channel with your family and friends that you think might enjoy our content. We have tags on our episodes, but hashtags have gone in and out of favor for driving viewership. We're always trying to keep up with the ever-changing algorithm. However, we are up for trying them again to see if that helps. Thank you so much for your encouragement and for watching our videos! -Judy
Wow! You two pulled it off!! Congrats!!! But wait, what became of your two sons? I thought you said they were still in high school. Did they stay in Houston with other family? Was your daughter going to college in Texas? Are these answers in the next episode?
Hi Heidi, We have three children (31, 33, and 35). Our daughter was the only one still in college when we moved to San Francisco. Our son lived with us for a while when we moved to San Francisco (he's still there). And now our other son and daughter live in Austin. They are all grown up! Also, here's info on why our channel is called "Finding Gina Marie." Thanks for watching our early videos. Our "Finding Family" series is also linked below, so you can hear the rest of our beginnings if you're interested! -Judy 📝 Why Our Channel is Called "Finding Gina Marie": findingginamarie.com/articles/why-the-name-finding-gina-marie 🎥 Finding Family intro videos: th-cam.com/play/PLNT98lWfwdF1QI_-Q6b-zspHSRhbyiu6_.html
@@FindingGinaMarie Hi Judy. I'm watching your old videos in order from #1 so I'll eventually get your full story.😊 Did the one son fly to SF with you and help carry the big stuff up the 6 flights of stairs? Was your other son at least done with high school and stayed behind in Houston?
@@heidixxx2454 No, but that would have been awesome! When we left Houston, our sons stayed behind and lived together. We had movers bring our stuff to San Francisco, and they were the ones lugging everything up the stairs. I was still in Houston at the time wrapping up the sale of our home and closing out some work at my job. Our boys were in their mid 20s (we moved in 2014, so they were 23 and 25. It was only our daughter (age 21) who was still in school, but it was college. We gave our kids the opportunity to move to San Francisco with us, but they had no interest in joining us initially. At one point our second son got a promotion and moved from Houston to Austin. Our oldest son took that opportunity when his brother moved out to decide to relocate to San Francisco and continues to live there now. Hopefully that clears things up for you. I'm sorry if it was confusing in our video. -Judy
@@FindingGinaMarie Thank you Judy! You probably gave the birth order of your children in an earlier video and I forgot by the time I was watching the move to SF. Because your daughter was the only child in college I for some silly reason assumed the other 2 were younger and still in high school. I'm now listening to you just talking first time with your birth Mom!
Hi Rebecca, actually it was a good decision. Kevin's business had taken a huge financial hit and we needed to sell our home. Starting work right away gave him a sign-on bonus and a bunch of other immediate cash that allowed us to give our home a refresh so we could put it up for sale and get significantly more for it than if we had moved right away without upgrades or having it linger on the market for too long. It also gave me time to finish a work project and also bring in extra money versus being unemployed. Although I had tried to do interviews via Zoom when I was in Houston, most companies really wanted me to interview in person because of the level executive I would be supporting (CEOs). It wasn't an easy time, but we were very grateful for the opportunity. -Judy
Only half way through this video. Cannot believe you guys moved to one of the biggest dumps of San Francisco. California in general has become a hell hole. Everything about it!
We didn't feel that way. We love the Golden Gate Bridge, the marina, the temperate weather, and I've met some really lovely friends here. Also, it turned out that when I found my birth family, they all had moved from Western New York to various parts of California, including an aunt that was a mile away from our apartment and another one and her entire family that were only 30 minutes or so from San Francisco. In many ways we felt like it was a homecoming and we were all being brought to the same place specifically for this reunion. San Francisco also doesn't require us to have cars, which was a huge benefit to us. We had always wanted to live in a major city versus a suburb, so this had been perfect for us. -Judy
I truly love you two so much. I love how your marriage works, how you are truly a team. What a love story you are leaving for your children.
