The first time I heard this lad play, I heard the good ol' soul of the blues, but young again. The way he plays.. the way he sings! To paraphrase Noel Coward, it's like a 21st Century kind of blues. Such brilliance!
GC Jr. like other "greats" seems to own this one by the way he's playing so masterfully, so. natural. Just as he did some 20 yrs ago, at the 1st annual Antones' blues fest. circa'02. Long live the blues. WtG gc Jr, jb Amarillo tx
The Jazz stuff is a nod to B.B. King who was strongly influenced by Charlie Christian. You can really hear that influence in this B.B. King performance th-cam.com/video/LWLAAzOBoBI/w-d-xo.html
@@bluesadvocate5397 BB made all the other versions look like a red-headed step child in 2000. I don’t like Clapton on vocals. Clapton never had a good blues voice, but can play that guitar.
It's nice to see gary touching base all over the place. He's playing with Mayer, picking up some augmented blues from the festi scene, and still playing that R&B blues and soul... I don't see why we should identify him as some color or race but I guess that something people don't seem to escape within their mentality anymore... I have come to accept nationality but its always popping up especially in this changing world where people are being given more opportunity to work for something... Well Gary Clark is still awesome I can tell he's drifting from traditional blues a bit but I am sure he'll find his way back to muddy waters.
Kristina what a ridiculously Asinine thing to say ,Gary Clark Junior Is highly talented And may even be Perhaps the future of Blues but never better than his predecessors
True that.. Other factors involved. The tone wood is there with the Epiphones but the wiring harnesses and the winding of the pickups are sub par. I picked up a Epi Wildkat hollow body with the Chinese wiring harness and sub par pickup winding of the P-90`s. Upgraded the wiring harness pot switches etc. sent my pickups out to be wound to vintage specs and now have a phenomenal ... custom built up Epi with solid vintage tone that I`ll never sell. I took a 500$ Epi, sank about 350$ into it (Bigsby upgrade as well) and now have a beautiful guitar that will stand up to 3000$ guitars in a blind test. I can dive bomb the Bigsby and it will hold tune. Pickups are not microphonic and I can control the feedback. I love the art of controlled feedback. Clean tones are vintage quality. Don`t knock the Epiphones. They can be modified and built up to your personal preference. I got the limited edition wildcat with a solid Hawaiian Koa top mahogany body and rosewood finger board... The Chinese pickup wraps and wiring harness are garbage. Built up.... and this is an unbelievably high quality guitar with vintage tone that I will never sell. It is absolutely beautiful in every way. Add a boutique tube amp or a good Fender amp and it is like GOD is talking through this instrument. I`ve got a real Les Paul standard and an Eric Johnson strat... And I`m grabbing my Epiphone 80% of the time.
You can get used gibson pickups on reverb or ebay and then a good epi will sound indistinguishable. Did that with an eastman and it sounds like a memphis at 1/3 the price.
BB King made this song though. I don’t like Clapton on the one in 2000, but BB on the 2000 is so amazing. His vocals got so much better as he aged. Perfect song for him. Nice and slow 12 bar
Ryan Chadwick It's not a chibson. It's an Epiphone. And Epiphone is not a made in China cheap version of Gibson,it's a company that has given historically guitar models to a lot of great musicians
Goes to prove that you dont need an expensive top of the line guitar to sound good. Personally I dont understand why people pay up to 5 times or more for practically the same guitar, unless you have enough money to blow, especially when a lot of people end up changing out the Pickups / Humbuckers anyways. I dont know, Thats just my opinion on it.
@@_MOORE_1986 For what it is worth, GCJ is an incredible player. He could make a piano wire strung between 2 planks of wood sound great. The guitar he is playing here is a vintage Epiphone made in Kalamazoo, MI and has a lot of serious mojo.
m1o9o8r6e _ you’re right you don’t need an expensive guitar to sound good, but this Epiphone that GCJ is playing is a Casino model from the old Epiphone company before Gibson bought them, it has nothing to do with the new Epiphone company who make cheaper Gibson copies. Definitely not anything to do with Eric Clapton. I swear some of you cats thinks SRV and Clapton invented to blues when all they did is cheapen it and cheese it up.
Ok pal are you having a bad day? When you don"t like something find something you do like. Life's too short. I mean you not only didn't like it you wasted your time talking about it. Go play it the way you like it. Then see if someone trolls you.
This young bluesman. Gary Clark jr is pure gold. I heard some of Howling Wolf
If I close my eyes, it's like B.B king is playing...
SUPERRR FUCKING TASTEFUL. So many blues players overplay their hand and the music suffers. But this man understands dynamics!
We all share at least one thing. Our taste in music evolved in a good way :) that’s why we are here!
Heard this while driving. Almost had to pull over!! Damn.
Love the way Gary plays the 3 O'Clock Blues. This is not an Eric Clapton or B. B. King Cover. It is a Lowell Fulson Tune.
LOVE THIS MUSIC, IT STIMULATES THE MIND
that's what I like about Gary Clark he does it all,
WITHOUT MUSIC LIFE WOULD BE AN ERROR.....
I had the opportunity to see and hear his performance live in Prague 2015 and I was glad I did. It was a great show..

A Star is Born. Are you KIDDING ME>>>
it still is and always was a Lowell Fulson song. BB King and all the others just covered it.
My ol'pal and former bandmate, Johnny "Rattlesnake"Radelate on drums!!!!
Very nice. Love the emotion behind every note.

Hes not that good bruh no were close
This was BB Kings first hit back in the 50s
wicked solo
Beautiful playing! :) Gary. Classic number!.
Holy shit this solo on the end is killing me
This could be a Peter Green ´´Tone´´ Instant blues from the first second!! Thanks for uploading this. Cheers!
Amazing player. Wanna hear him play live .
Mr. Clarke digging into to this blues track.
I can relate Gary Clark jr.
So in loooooove with you and your music.

Wow Wow
thanks for posting, dan43a
great, he is so talented
This is NOT an Eric Clapton cover. This is and always will be a BB King tune. Clapton just covered it the way Gary is doing here.
Clapton and BB did record this together for "Riding with the King" - that's probably why the uploader titled it as such.
Asib . It’s Originely Written by Lowel Fulson, By The Way.....
Lowell Fulson, not BB King --

I think you made it about color/race by saying that. Its awesome music. No need to get political (or racist) about it.

badass!
Nice playing. Drummer looks like Philthy Animal from Motorhead
Gary’s my brother ! Ya
genius musician, composes, plays, and sings ......all extraordinary. best at blues. better than all his blues predecessors.
Kristina what a ridiculously Asinine thing to say ,Gary Clark Junior Is highly talented And may even be Perhaps the future of Blues but never better than his predecessors

Lowell Fulson recorded "Three O'Clock Blues" in 1946 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_O'Clock_Blues

I thought this was a BB King Bobby Blue Bland cover???
JAY WATTS
He plays the blues better than John Mayer for sure.
Stop comparing dickface
Bitch ill say whatever the fuck i feel.
+haloskater24 I agree both great players but gary has the feeling. I wonder why he didn't often play with bb. Now it's too late rip
I think they both play it well, just different vibes to the blues. I actually live like 10 mins away from GCJ
I do prefer gary, but Mayer is way more skilled

I think John Mayer started with pop music. And I dont really see the problem with it.
John Mayer started as a blues player which later became Pop .

why the fuck do you mix Clark whit the other burritos?
