And the whole family playing a board game is something you don't see anymore today --- rather, everyone is glued to a laptop or phone. You've definitely captured a moment of yesteryear that we rarely see now.
This is like staring into a mirror of what COULD have been. On one hand, it reminds me of the mundanities of just hanging around the house with my brothers and family. But on the other hand, it reminds me of peace we couldn't/didn't have. Every time special days came by, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, New year, ANYTHING that involved celebration, my father would get depressive and become angry and violent. He made sure that if he felt depressive during those times of year, that EVERYONE was going to feel it. You can have all the roofs over your head and food in your stomach and toys in your room- but none of that means anything if you dont have peace and laughter in the home. You grow up like that, and before long, you blink and you're an adult. And then when those special days come around, now YOU feel depressive. It made me understand that my father didn't MEAN to destroy a part of the lives of me and my siblings. He still did it, but it wasn't his intention. I understand now that he didn't know how to deal with or heal himself from the terrible things that HE had to live during those special days when HE was a kid. Cycles are real people. They really are. We all tell ourselves that we'll be different than our folks. But nature is trickier than you think. I never had kids, but I know that the demons surround me. I just dont have anyone to have to fend them off for. It makes me feel like when the man purposely chains himself in a locked room to save the world from the werewolf that he turns into at night. Watching these videos bring me peace because it makes me feel like just a friend visiting and there to celebrate. It makes me feel like I feel in real life when I visit friends who are celebrating a holiday- I quietly standby and watch everyone happy and enjoying and peaceful, and I feel a sense of wonder at how to feel that way too.
He sounds like a coward POS that should have never had children and shame on your mom for putting you through that. I hope you don’t repeat that in your life and people CAN change IF they really desire it. Your life is worth way more than those people showed you. Happy Holidays you deserve to be happy! ☃️❄️🎄✨

Actually, that is not a mistake. New Year’s Eve 1996 would actually be on December 31st, 1996 because that would be referring to the Eve before New Year’s Day 1997 which was on January 1st, 1997. It’s the same thing as differentiating Christmas Eve from Christmas Day. Christmas Eve always refers to Dec 24th and Christmas Day always refers to Dec 25th. New Year’s Eve 1997 was on December 31st, 1997, the last day of ‘97.
Some people also could say New Year’s Eve 1996-97, to describe the transition.. but when someone uses the word ‘Eve’ it literally means that it precedes an event or occasion. So New Year’s Eve is always the day before New Year’s or New Year’s Day of the following year. New Year’s Eve 1997 was not on Dec 31, 1996. Since the day before New Year’s Day was not in 1997, the operative word would actually be ‘New Year’s Eve 1996’.. Fun fact: New Year’s Eve is sometimes called Old Year’s Day.
