Still the most detailed, sensitive and beautifully conceived performance of this great work. Gustav Leonhardt and his colleagues shine their perceptive light on the many levels of Bach's musical and theological genius. Not even the new Bach-Stiftung performance under Prof. Lutz (which is wonderful) quite equals the exquisite insights that this timelessly great recording provides. As an example of what I mean: (listening on good headphones), just marvel at Leonhardt's own exquisite (improvised) continuo part in the bass aria (no. 2) with the greatest of all Bach singers, Max van Egmond. Never equalled.
Amazing.
