Great looks, your work is continuously improving keep it up! Also, side note at the time you shout out 10k your listing was showing over 11k. Fabulous!
You have cracked the first hurdle that a lot of photographers never get over, and that is a model that is relaxed and happy to work with you, and not just a clothes horse that takes instructions. Well done Mike keep up the great work.
Finally a film photographer on TH-cam that is not confused by the words "pushing" and "pulling film" ! So many film photographers on here are using these terms the wrong way. Also I love the photos especially the last look! And as always your videos are so aesthetic pleasing almost like a fashion video
Hello Mike, I just said to my wife that I like your videos because they tell an entertaining story, about you, about photography, about how you approach a project. And once again you delivered! Thank you very much for an inspiring video.
Mike I always approach every shoot with the same mindset. A checklist of what I will take, cameras, film or cards, lenses, filters , batteries, reflectors, tripods or monopods, hand held meters both light and color temp, lens brush and cleaning supplies, charged cell phone, water, snacks, sunscreen and insect repellant ( for the model ) gaffer tape. I always try to scout locations before hand so I know what the light will be like and what interesting backgrounds to use. If shooting a model I pre-visualize what shots and concept that we will start with. And always be prepared to go with the flow.
just WOW!!! Look one broke my heart, look two took me to the moon and look three just left me speechless!!! Absolutely loved this one Mike, simply amazing art! Thanks for this!
Excellent images!!!colours look saturated but not oversaturated, just the right amount. It would be nice if you did a video on how you process film and edit your images.
I have a concept and plan location but just roam around when the shoot starts. Also I am a digital shooter but interested in film but will have to get another film camera as the one I have is broken!
For shoots, I like to take the approach of film directors I admire. They plan and prepare and shoot what’s on the page first, then they allow for improv and spontaneity. And If I’m properly prepared and something goes wrong, I’m better suited to adapt to make it work. Like paddling down a river in a canoe. You’ve got control of your boat and the oar, but you’re going with the flow and where the water takes you.
The third look is so dope! The last one you shared, model on stairs and looking at you, slightly lower angle, my first thought was Vogue magazine. That shot is money! Great job, as always.
Thank you for taking the time in doing this video, I think you're right doing a plan for your shoots only because you only get one shot with film. No need for surprises considering the cost of time, models, and extra's. If you have the chance shoot a large format for half a day.
Just found you a few weeks ago... Love your work... you’ve got this great ability to connect with people and it shows through your photos and your videos! Thanks for bringing us along!
Hi Mike. Came across your channel by accident really when researching the Pentax 67 which I've now acquired for my street photography which is all candid but nonetheless planned in terms of location and light though getting successful images might be more challenging with the Pentax! Really enjoy the channel, great to see the huge strides you are making, and look forward to your next piece of work.
Incredible work again Mike! I just bought a Godox SL150W continuous and will be shooting Portra 800 indoors. Think I'm gonna try rating at 800 and pushing 2 stops. Those 800 photos are so punchy!
🔥 I just watched like 5 of your videos back to back man. Loving the channel. I'm more of a freestyle shooter, never knew how to actually plan a shoot and what things to consider when planning a shoot. Most recently discovered Tyler Shields and now your work. Would love a more in-depth look into planning and what goes into it.
Good work bro. To your question. I like to plan shoots. I do this so when I’m on set or location I have more space to problem solve and evolve the idea with the talent. Less stress for me lmao.
Definitely look 3 was my favorite! You killed that vintage royalty/celebrity Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn look. No shade to your Calvin Klein, half naked model shots, it’s just not what I’m into...if you’ve only been doing this a year though., you’re crushing man! Keep it up!
Your channel is such a hidden gem here on TH-cam. I love your spirit and your photography. Also I‘m really impressed with your work since you said you’ve only been doing photography for a year now (or film photography, dunno if I missed something). I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and I can only say wow, you’ve come so far in such a short time. Props to you mate!
so i learned today that you are only a year in photography & tbh that gave me sooo much hope haha. i have been doing photography seriously for about 2 months and have been loving it myself...im still figuring out what it is I would say my style is. but I love watching your vids your inspirational honestly & your creativity is uhmazing, never let up!
very very spontaneous when it comes to shoots. that's usually how I get the best work to be honest, but I am working on planning shoots out! I think it'll help me in the long run lol
Straight up some in of the best work I've seen in a minute in my opinion, as a artist you killed it, the model killed it, and the man behind the video camera killed it. Inspirational work👌
Absolutely love your videos. I'm starting a film project back here in Brazil and your work and Tyler's work have inspired me a lot! Keep going, your already worldwide!
Great video! Red hat shots were amazing and the squatting shot in the street is great! I like to plan my shoots but most of the time my plans just go out the window!
Could really learn if you would provide the exposure details of the pictures. I would really like to have a understanding of how you exposed them and the outcome after pushing them. Thanks!!
Great shots again, I'm with you ... the last look with the red hat are absolutely my favourite. Looks like something from vintage Vogue! I've started planning more shoots now, enjoying the process of visualising/planning/shooting. Lockdown in the UK has put a halt to it at the moment!
Model on the stairs, not looking at the camera with the painting behind her. 🔥 Btw, thanks for taking the time last night to talk to me on live stream!
the look number 3 is by far the best, but my favorite shot is the one at 5:00, idk why but it's really gripping. I do, or at least I try, street photo and also some portraits not as often as I would like to but watching you doing your thing is very inspiring.
I really like your style Mike. Nice shooting and congrats to your models, they are always very professional. To answer your question, I'm just an amateur photographer, shooting on Fuji x100T, mainly jpeg SOOC with film emulation settings (trying to get that analog photography feeling, where you can't really edit your shots afterwards). Portraits and street photography are what appeal the most to me.
Very inspiring content. Just recently got in photography and I’m still trying to find my style. Originally street photography had my attention but I’m glad I found this channel.I really like the way you’re organized, seems like planning these shoots is definitely key.
Out of the three different looks. I liked the indoor shots. Do you find that 6x7 suits portrait orientation more than landscape? I always seem to go to this position on 6x7
@@MikeGrayFilm interesting. I struggle in landscape orientation. Even with my 65mm I’m always thinking I wish the frame was wider. My eye prefers a more panoramic landscape frame.
Damn.. those skin colors. I'm too indecisive to choose 0:29 as my fave, but it sure as hell made me watch every other second of the video. Thanks man, pleasure as always.
You just keep getting better
Thanks OG!
Great looks, your work is continuously improving keep it up!
Also, side note at the time you shout out 10k your listing was showing over 11k. Fabulous!
damn. props from TS, huge
Tappin in gang
My brother. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Thank you Anthony
Love that shot at 6:14 something about the angles and the colours. Love all this stuff and it keeps getting better!
Thanks a lot Xella
Unconditional love your shot and professional model

Just binged a bunch of your videos with my Mom and she loves you yo. Hey, so do I. Keep flowing!!
That is awesome! Tell you mom I said Thank you!

Look #3 is really special, it has a great vibe to it.
Thanks Rene!

I will do that very soon!
The lase photo of look #3 i think was the one I really loved🥺 glad i found your youtube😎
Thanks Lisa
Nice work, love the merry widow look and the black and white shots.
Thanks
I have a concept and plan location but just roam around when the shoot starts. Also I am a digital shooter but interested in film but will have to get another film camera as the one I have is broken!

Look 3 is great. Loving that 60's vibe. Never used a ring light before, maybe I should try it.
Give it a go!
Thanks Michael!
The third look is so dope! The last one you shared, model on stairs and looking at you, slightly lower angle, my first thought was Vogue magazine. That shot is money! Great job, as always.
Thanks a lot Terry
Huge Power on this set, man
Thanks Chris!
The tight shots from that final look are just so unbelievable! Those colors too are something else.
Drew!! Thanks man.

Very effective with the third look. Images, poses and colors resonated well.
Thanks Alton.
Do you have a video explaining how you scan and retouch?
My mans! The photos just keep getting better and better.
I’ve shot with Sloan when she was in Singapore! She’s amazing! Knows how to improvise! Cheers guys! More power! 👏🏻

Great photos and beautiful model! 5:40 and 8:57 Are my favorites... The first one has a Newton vibe and the second great composition!

My dude, the styling was on point! Im planning a shoot like this soon and was loved watching this video and your others. ( bell clicked) lol

It’s unfortunate

Had to bro
Great insights here. I really like how do you handle your lights in the pictures. Well done and thanks!
Thank you Daniel.

I will do that Allen!

Yoo the first two "looks" where amazing! But the third really came THROUGH 💥
Thanks so much man. I agree!
4:27 - great shot. Love the pose and the light.
Thank you.
Great work Mike!
Thanks Eric!
Model on the stairs, not looking at the camera with the painting behind her. 🔥
Btw, thanks for taking the time last night to talk to me on live stream!
Of course Nick. Thank you for tuning in!
I saw your shadow in a bunch of the photos in the first set (Portra 160 in the park)
I did too lol
just another amazing work from you mike. you deserve more recognition fr. keep it up my g! 🔥🙏🏼
Thank you!

I started shooting portraits last year. Before that was a lot of street and cityscape. Love your work man!
Thanks Ricky!
so dope. seeing your channel grow so much has been incredible to watch too. keep killing it dude
those street portraits were crazy. sexy, but artsy. gave me tarantino vibes.
Thank you.
Nice video I'm so glad that youtube recommended you to me.
I mostly do something like landscape photography of barns here in switzerland.
Thanks
I really like your style Mike. Nice shooting and congrats to your models, they are always very professional.

How does just pushing film in developing after metering at box speed, compare to metering for a push of x stops? And developing accordingly?
Amazing shots Mike!
Thanks

in love with ur work bro. sick
Thanks a lot Sergio
Lovely work dude
at 4:26 the colors are boombastic! Super intense without being ridiculous
Out of the three different looks. I liked the indoor shots. Do you find that 6x7 suits portrait orientation more than landscape? I always seem to go to this position on 6x7

You push in developing
