I remember as a young kid riding our bike to the beach, pvc surf board holder , could go to Mickeys and get a hobo ham or turkey sandwich for 25c and an orange juice for 10c and if you caught Mr Mance (Mickey)early morning and ask to clean up in the back of his store receiving door he'd give it to you for work, cool man, then walk out by Granny's green wooden house in the corner south of Herondo drain pipe before the chart house, the drain would wash sand into the corner , and make breakwall peel some perfect lefts, grew up with my good friends the many Lurhsen brothers and Felix and other cool guys ,Frosty, Gary Hariguchi, etc, moved Hawaii, dropped in at pipe and windmills, pine trees, infinity and Honolua did good in 20'+ faces on my Blue Pacific surf boards ,all from surfing Breakwall
Michael and James and Joey- the boyz

Went to high school with Freddie and James Lursen. I have to give it to you guys I think you guys may have control of the place. There is always a turn over. Sad to here Freddie is gone, he was a talent guy. His harmonica was great great friend James I was in school with you from junior high on. Remember me Big Jim Balster. Love you guys. Sad at 66 I am not in the water much anymore though I miss it so much.

I surfed this place in the 60s and 70s I grew up there with Mike Danune Bill Shultz and a lot of unknown surfers that were called the unknown surfers. We had a great time back in the 60s and 70s.

Anthony Barrow - I surfed with Bill all of the time & was a local with my good friend Ty Page. Other friends were Gary Haraguci, Bobby Warcola, John Teig, Frosty & others - it was a total blast. A Northwest swell & minus tide created great, throaty barrels we all ate up.

big props to El Gordo at 3:26 floating like a boss... I surfed in so cal from the late 70s through the late 80s and i never even considered redondo hermosa or manhatten, swell direction is so rare to get peaks that peel , usually all you get are huge closeouts

I, Jerry Langton, Jeff Johnston and Arnie Burke grew up surfing 2nc St. Hermosa Beach. 1964 was surf like this. I think they all went out and I watched. No way was i going to be killed in that heavy thick water walls. This vid brings back good memories.

California soul. Mike Purpus surfed it better in the 70's, but the locals still shine. What a contrast to the kooks at Palos Verdes.

my grandpa, grandma, aunts uncles mom and dad and I all surf(ed) the South Bay (and other So Cal spots for sure) but we were never joiners and honestly are a family of anti-socials so we aren't really "locals" despite 3-4 generations of South Bay residence and surfing history. It's so funny how everyone growls and spits venom online, but you go out there and everyone is like "hey bro, good morning, beautiful day huh?". people change so much once they get out into the line up. A lot depends on your attitude when you go out there.

Paul Hartford wow that place was pumping back in the 60s and 70s. So do you have any idea? This place is where Jabocs , Bing, Takeama and some of the best surfers around surfed this place.

I grew up in Hermosa beach. The breakwall crew is the biggest bunch of kooks Los Angeles has to offer. And that puts them in the running for biggest kooks of all time.
