  • Hi All, I thought I'd film with the courtesy Jaguar 2.5 V6 Sovereign (nope - she is an SE spec not a Sovereign!) S-Type that was with me for a couple of days. I must apologise for the grainy texture of the footage at the start and the earlier part of the video: the lighting conditions were extremely poor. It so happened that we had cold weather that included snow, ice and... salt on the roads! I had a very early start in the dark so I've needed to try and boost light levels in post for all the dark footage.

    I have a 55plate 3 litre sport. It's my daily driver. Love it.

    You need to get this obsession with fuel consumption into some sort of perspective. My first car, a 1953 Ford Anglia (933cc sidevalve) returned on average about 29 mpg. Its performance was abysmal. My 3.0 S type returns a bit less overall but she goes like Old Joe F*ck and cruises all day at the legal limit. I don't think we should begrudge a luxury car like the S type an mpg around 26/28 for all the many advantages over an old boneshaker from the fifties!

    It's the inner and outer sills you need to check for rust and rot. Sadly, they were not well protected and water, mud, salt etc gets in them and sits there due to poor drainage. They then rot from the inside out - all hidden by the plastic sill cover running the length of the sill. Inner front wheel arches also a rot point from the inside out...

      Thanks for sharing. Completely agree. In fact I have a video on rust proofing my S-type from Japan using Krown rust protection: th-cam.com/video/4NfApLVRiDA/w-d-xo.html

    The 2.5 introduced in 2002 for the first ‘X202’ facelift car was dropped for the final ‘X206’ facelift as it was pretty underpowered (fine for the X-Type). From 2006 onwards it was just 2.7d, 3.0 & 4.2SC only available only in the ‘R’.
    I daily a 2002 (x202) 3.0 SE

      Thank you! I was not aware that the 2.5 V6 was dropped for the X206 version. Thanks for sharing. 3.0 V6 I imagine to be a great drive.

    I've never heard of the S Type having a 'Sovereign' spec ? ..... This just looks like the SE version.

      @toooldclassics  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great point: my XJ has a "sovereign spec" (V5C says that too) but it does not necessarily mean that it is officially. Same with the S-Type potentially. I just assumed based on the spec comparison. I will endeavour to find out... thanks for sharing.

      S-Type "SE" spec she is. I checked. My bad. Apologies... My XJ is a TDVi Sovereign.

    The 2.5 is ain’t worth to buy because in terms of fuel consumption is really not much difference from the 3.0 which is a fairly nice engine. I had a 2003 3.0v6 6spd auto and it was really good car. It wasn’t the fastest but had enough power for everything. Lot of people surprised how quick is the car on the highway between 50-100 miles. 😊

    Hi, you didn`t mention the the 2.7TD engine? Would love a comment on this diesel version? Dabs

    • @toooldclassics
      @toooldclassics  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mentioned it as the 2.7 V6 bi-turbo but not that it was diesel! My bad and good spot! It's the same unit as found in my 2006 Jaguar XJ automatic. I like it as it's suitably torquey with linier acceleration. Not dramatic, not exciting, but progressive and satisfying. Long distance I get 45+ mpg to the (UK) gallon. Way more than any of my other cars (except the diesel BMW).

    You can daily drive an x-type, but why would you? It's not a real Jag!
