Hi, I have recently bought myself a tomos project bike but I’m struggling to find spare parts, can you please tell me where you were able to find them?
It's not a moped if it doesn't have pedals. I've had 4 Tomos mopeds, 3 bought new. They all had pedals. I now have a Puch Maxi, a Sears Puch/Kromag, a Peugeot 103, and a Velosolex 3800. They all have pedals. You did a nice job on it, but it is not a moped.
ones with pedals date back to the 70's and are rarely seen today over here in the Netherlands because legislation changed. it's definitely not a scooter so I'm interested to know how you would define this model without pedals
@@Tomology Believe it or not, it is called a "noped" Several brands made them here in the U.S., including Honda (the Honda Express) Yamaha (the QT50 "Yamahopper"), Suzuki (the FA50 "Shuttle"), and even Tomos. They offered kickstart versions of several of their bikes without pedals. I'm sure there were several others as well. The difference in the U.S. is that if it has pedals, it is called a "moped" and you only need a drivers license to ride it. It also must have a registration, plate, and insurance, but has no title. The ones without pedals are considered motorcycles, and require a motorcycle license and title. It is illegal to take the pedals off a bike registered as a moped. @@geraldscott4302 interesting, never heard of the word noped before. I forgot about the VeloSolex. I also have a VeloSolex 3800, but it is not an older one. It was made by Impex in Hungary in the early 2000s. I have also had both a Sears Free Spirit Puch/Kromag and a JC Penny Pinto Puch/Kromag. Helmet laws here vary by state. In my state, you do not have to wear a helmet on any kind or size of motorcycle/scooter/moped if you are over 18. All "mopeds" in the U.S. were restricted to 49cc and a top speed of 30 mph, and were not legal to carry a passenger on (I noticed you putting passenger pegs on the Tomos) However the big thing here is to modify them for more performance, with big bore kits up to 80cc, bigger carburetors, expansion chamber exhausts, low restriction air cleaners, regearing, and a number of other things. Many of them will go 50-55 mph. It's not legal, the idea is to not get caught. The police do not seem to pay much attention to them. In the U.S. 50 mph is considered super slow. The big problem we have here is 200 mph sport bikes, commonly called "crotch rockets". Most motorcycle crashes and deaths here involve those things, which were actually designed for the track, and the manufacturers put street legal equipment on them in order to sell them as street bikes. Irresponsible riders usually ride these things, making things even worse.
