    Comparison of a 2007 Lexus LX 470 Crystal white and a 2007 Land cruiser 100 series. Helps answer why used Landcruisers are more expensive than LXs.
    Both have the VVTI 275hp engine and AHC suspension. How many Lamdcruisers have been built? Well 81000 of the 100 series Landcruiser compared to 80000 Lexus LX 470s were built from 1998 to 2007.

    The biggest differences aren’t apparent until you drive them, and then it’s night and day. I have an ‘07 LC and an ‘07 LX, and the LX feels and sounds like a completely different vehicle on the highway (whisper quiet and smooth); lots of sound dampening material, thicker glass, thicker/better rubber moldings around the doors and tailgates, transmission seems slicker/smoother, etc, etc.. The doors close like vaults. Fit and finish on everything is better, it’s a true luxury vehicle. I LOVE my LC, but the LX blows it away. I paid $5k less for the LX with the same mileage too.

      That is exactly what I care here to learn. How about rattles? Do the LC or LX stay quiet inside? No rattles at all? Maybe only the LX does? I wonder if they don’t have rattles, even at 300k miles. I have heard that is a Lexus thing, to not have rattles even at super high mileages, and many years into its life; they just stay quiet and don’t develop rattles. Can you testify for that or have a comment about it? I’d like to know from someone that has owned both for an extended period.

    I have a ‘01 Land Cruiser that’s shy of 400k miles. Besides normal wear and tear (spark plugs, timing belt, etc.) the only major thing that I had to replace was the right front axle, alternator, and valve cover replacement. It cost a little over $900.00. All those parts that I had replaced were all original from the factory. As long as you stay on top on of the maintenance, these trucks will last you a very long time.

    I had 98 LX 470 & My Uncle's LC100 also 98 Model too (Both are 4.7L), they're both running great but bad thing about LC100 is misfiring (due of bad spark plugs) but it's still managing to run continually like Toyota would do. You're definitely right that the difference, the Lexus is quieter than Land Cruiser but of course it's luxury engineering anyways both LX470 and LC100 are great vehicles so far in my opinion.

      @@donwalton2578 so it has been in the rust belt. Definitely get underneath. It is a good price for miles. See if dealer services regularly. You can also put down the tailgate and see down in the corner where you can see thru. Thats a main area it can rust from salt being kicked up by the rear tires. Also lift up the plastic threshold piece in the back and take a look. For a rust free model its a great price... depends if the rust is liveable and if you live in the rust belt and will drive in the winter months. If you are in an area with no salt, then maybe search a rust free model. Otherwise, if you are and will be driving in winter, I guess kinda unavoidable.

    My point being, modifying the LX and LC 100 for overlanding is sacrilege to me; the SEQUOIA 4X4 would be perfect for mod and customization as they are dirt cheap at $4000 average and ubiquitous while the LC and LX are rare and fetch upwards of $24,000 USD.

      The Sequoia has historically been built alongside the Tundra in San Antonio. I don't think that will change for 2023. Plus, while the Sequoia is longer, the LX/Land Cruiser is wider.

    Why do some say they have air suspension, and others say hydraulic? I’ve also heard they have traits of air suspension but aren’t entirely “air suspensions,” at least not in the traditional sense with air springs mounted over shock absorbers.

      The LX470 has Hydraulic suspension. AHC.
      There is no Air either the LX470 or LX570. It's all hydraulic. Also some 2007 Land Cruisers had that option.

    Typically how long does the Hydraulic suspension lasts and how expensive is it to repair? Is it Hydraulic on both vehicles or does Lexus has an Air suspension?

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is hydraulic and on LX 98-07 and only an option for 06-07 LC.
      I have never seen one go out. The globes or accumulators could require replacement at some point, but as long as vehicle isn't in the rust belt, system should last for 500k

      @CruisingTheLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would want to buy used globes from a southern state junkyard. Otherwise they are $1000 each from dealer. Since everything is exposed under the car, its the rust that can eat through the pipes.

    • @jasonmccann257
      @jasonmccann257 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha! Best advice I am going to give you guys wanting to own a Hundy, or Lux. If you want to own a Land Cruiser, then invest another $1,000 and buy some tools and learn how to work on them yourself! Lexus and Toyota will smile, lick their lips and rub their hands together when they see you pulling into the stealership! Maintenance costs instantly increase when you bring that bad boy in to be serviced.
      I know all about the AHC going kaput! I have a 96 FZJ80 & a 2004 LX470 and I love them! The LX470 was a 1 person owner and was well taken care of. The old lady who owned it, worked for Lexus and had it meticulously serviced at the same dealership, so I have all the service records. This past January out of nowhere, the front non rusted passenger hydraulic line & shock broke open where the line connects to the top of the shock. Hydraulic fluid sprayed all over the engine bay, which ruined a pulley, and shorted the alternator and caused me to have the timing replaced at the same time. $1,800 later, Lexus wanted $1,100 to install a $250 shock, or $3,000 to remove all of the AHC and install the Old Man Emu suspension kit I bought. I ended up watching a couple video on here and removed the original shocks, springs & T-bars and installed the kit myself and saved $3K. It rides great and I now do all of the work on my Cruisers and keep it recorded in a log book with the receipts.

    Hello Cruising The Land, thank you for posting such an informative video. You must have quite a lot of knowledge on these trucks. I hope you can answer some of my questions. I picked up an 06 lx a couple of months ago. It has 203k miles. So far, I've changed wheel bearing and serviced all diffs. Not sure when was the timing had a timing belt been changed last time. I'm thinking about changing the automatic transmission fluid soon, is this a good idea? What other services do you recommend me to perform on my truck? I'm planning to keep it long. Thank you.

      Hi Adew,
      Yes TB and WP are the big service items to be done every 90k miles (150k kms) a good shop can do this for $400 labor and you can buy the Aisin Belt and Waterpump kit.
      As for the Transmission fluid. This is an enclosed system and although it is not a recommended item, I have know some people to change it. The Trans in these trucks is robust.

      Prior to Covid, had.the 80 (moonglow pearl) and a 570.
      And then I got a 100, and another and got it back to almost showroom condition. Then sold one, bought another etc. Repeat, while driving them and enjoying. Typically 06s and a few 07s (275hp VVTI ), Grey, Black Garnet, Silver, white, crystal.white, black etc... a couple 01s and a 02...
      Favorites which I wish I kept one was Grey 06 LX, a 07 white LC and 07 Crystal white LX.
      Probably had about 20 of them.
      Now.I have no 100s!
      Then covid hit and prices rocketed up.
      So now I am down to the 40, 73, 80, 80, 200, 570.

      Hi Chris,
      The 100 series are built for world wide distribution and most countries will have lower grade fuel, or stations in the middle of nowhere for these adventure rigs. Think UN preferred choice!
      So you can put 89 octane and perhaps 91 octane (premium) every 4th fill up.

    • @408SPLKINGS
      @408SPLKINGS 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      87 octane is preferred.
      4.7L 2UZFE very uncommon engine outside of N. America.
      2UZFE uses very simplistic ignition system & common grade spark plugs. Copper base spark plugs last 30k Platinum, 60k Iridium, 100k.
      For better mpgs & power use heat range 1 step colder. Spark plugs
      heat range higher number = colder
      lower number = hotter. Use NGK or Nippon Denso spark plugs. Any octane above 87 is a waste, no added performance, no added power, no added mpgs only added expense. Change your oil / filter & air filter frequently for better mpgs & smooth engine performance.

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would put 91 octane every 4th fill up. Actually only Chevron with Techron or Shell with V power as there are cleaners in the fuel. That helps keep things clean.

    I'm looking at importing a Land Cruiser 100 with the 4.2L I6 Diesel, but man are they expensive.... may just have to settle for the 3.0 turbo diesel hilux surf instead

      @@CruisingTheLand I'm in Vancouver, Canada. We can import cars from Japan that are 15 years old. The scene is pretty big here

      The 1HD FTE engine will keep increasing in value in the future while the 1KZ/1KD would not. They are expensive to start with but the 4.2L will be the last legendary diesel from Toyota.

    In the UK we get the Land Cruiser petrol. You've got to be mad to buy with the cost of petrol here.

      How much is gas there? Here in California it is 3.40 a gallon or 85 cents a liter.

      Cruising The Land really cheap at the moment. £1 per litre. $1.25? Per litre. We have 4.54 litres in a British gallon.

    • @CruisingTheLand
      @CruisingTheLand  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes got it and I was calculating imperial gallon. That is pretty decent right now but still expensive! As these get 14-16 mpg. 14% more with your British gallon.

      Cruising The Land ah but we have the straight six 4.2td in 100 series and the 4.5 litre v8 diesel in our 200 series. You don’t see very many 200 series on the road. As a used car they’re about two to three times the price of a diesel Range Rover.
      Have a look on UK autotrader.
