    • @DelPlays
      @DelPlays 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Unfortunately as a soraka you don't have the Sona ulti to get away from them.. yeah you can control enemy assassin movement with Soraka, but it isn't nearly as impactful as Sona kiting would be unless you get them bound and silenced without somehow dying in the process.
      Soraka generally is more about giving her team infinite sustain and really wishing that they actually do something with it instead of constantly running away with full hp.
      I swear there's some strange disease infecting league players currently which makes them completely unable to even attempt fighting enemy team until they just lose very slowly and it's driving me crazy as a fan of support role who really like trying to help their team do well instead of being a fake midlaner in support role without items. Voice communication would fix this, but I really really don't want to read what league players type on average game, let alone hear them speak.

  • @Heresor
    @Heresor 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +24

    Your explanation of the "peeling" felt a lot like when I got bored with trying out new supports and tested non-traditional supports. Turns out Yasuo has a hidden passive that casts "Taunt" on every enemy in range. That combined with Windwall and the old Zeke's Harbinger made him a formidable tank support who could also put out some damage.
    I love playing Sona, but damn they did her dirty by releasing Seraphine. And yes, this is an Arcade Sona profile pic.

    My buddy happened upon this video of yours and immediately sent it to me. I've been playing League since season 4, started playing Sona in Preseason 5, and the rest is history. Currently MR 7, 748k points, and peaked Diamond 1 (mostly) one tricking Sona. The moment I saw the title and thumbnail, I just KNEW I had to watch it with him so that I will have a witness for the absolute madness of two souls being on the same wavelength. Before we hit play, I listed out some possible things you might talk about in this video. Lo and Behold, everything I mentioned, you ended up talking about in some way in your video. Never before had I seen or encountered anyone else who understood this champion as much as I think I do, even in the Sonamains Discord. I think you were able to perfectly sum up Sona's identity as a champion, as a support, and as a piece of scrap that has been neglected and abandoned by the developers for their shiny new pieces of scrap. I don't want to go into the nitty gritty of everything, about how much I agree with the salient points of your video, and how I disagree with some of your takes, but just know, that I sincerely respect you as a fellow Sona main who also started playing her because she's a borderline rip off of Hatsune Miku. I love Sona. At half a million points, it's my most played champion and I'm not embarrassed to say Sona and Janna have been carrying me to Diamond4 3 seasons in a row. BUT, one thing I always found weird is how disconnected with her thematic Sona is.
    Riot has been doing their best to tie gameplay with thematic. So when you play Caitlyn you fell like you are playing a sniper police, and when you play Rengar, you fell like you are playing a hunter assassin. When you play Sona, you don't fell like a magical singer. She doesn't really have a thematic identity like other champs. And I get it, she is a older champion, before Riot started to really try to tie gameplay with thematic. But you get it.

    For some reason I find Sona the funniest support to play currently. I have been playing it on brazilian diamond and master with 60% plus win rate. I have tons of fun baiting because people go wild to chase sona, also dodging skill shots with my 400-500 speed (I love playing need 4 speed jhin on urf and dodging all skills, it's so fun), plus being able to stop the damage of a burster by 60% (passive + exhaust). I also love making assassins feel useless (trauma as an adc main of getting bursted if I lightly mispositionate). And I'm also able to consistenly engage offering 4s of 50% slow and 1,5s of stun, which is 6,5 of cc that is enough to make the target out of position and dies if I have a carry around. I feel this champion is so complete and her weaknesses can be overcomed with knowledge of the game, enemy decision prediction and skill. Pretty cool to hear someone talking about the strong side of this champion

    Granted I am still abysmal at the game, but not needing to CS or Kill so much is such a relief. I don't need to be at the frontline or at the top of KDA, I just want to have fun. Even with my bad gameplay I feel that I can contribute something to the team. This is the only champion so far, where I really want to get better, just because it's fun.

    Sona was the first champion that I mastered and she was recommended to me when I first started playing league due to her "simplicity". I think a lot of players (myself included) have the misconception that Sona cannot do damage (due to her being labeled as a heal and shield bot). When I was less experienced, I always tried to auto attack enemy champions during skirmishes and would often kill steal with a power chord on accident. One game, I ks-ed 7 times and my solo que ADC and mid-laner were outright pissed and yelling obscenities at me in the chat.
    I was also given a lot of advice from my adc duo on positioning parallel or behind my adc during laning phase and all the way at the back or middle during team fights (due to her general squishiness). A Sona standing at the front line is like a death wish.

    As a fellow Sona main I can confirm. Laning is basicaly lost and unless your Jungler is a Gigachad 1v3 guy he should not play around bot too much UNTIL you hit lvl 6.
    Also Teamfights are where you shine. If the enemies don't kill you within 2 seconds you will inevitably win the fight... unless the enemy team has a Samira...
    If by some fucking miracle your team is winning the early game you will win it even harder and faster with Sona.

    There is no other support champion I enjoy playing more than Sona. I love her kit, her gameplay and how her squishiness misleads enemies, especially when I spice up my item kit with one tank item like gauntlet. Nothing more satisfying when you bait them into their death. I truely see her as an op champion. They always think she is the easiest target.

    I play Sona because I used to one trick APC Sona Q power chord nuke in the glory days of 2015/2016 and I was. A machine. A horrifying machine of death.
    Every so often I play her for the nostalgia hoping one day I’ll lock in and she will magically be back to her old self….. god I miss her.

    I liked this video a lot. As a Nami OTP a lot of what you said also applies to her- especially about synergizing with an ADC. Nami can so easily dominate a lane IF her ADC knows how to use her. A surprising number of people don't know how her E works; that it slows the enemy, that it procs on abilities, that Nami will get on-hit procs from them using it (including money + PoM). I imagine both Sona and Nami players have to develop that sense of when their ADC is FINALLY going to poke the enemy to pop their buff. So frustrating to lose what should have been an easy lane because my AD is just too far up their own ass, or playing insanely safe into a lane I know we can win. That's why I thought it was so funny so many of those clips included a Caitlyn- she really is the best at utilizing both of these supports, IMO. I love Nami far too much to give up playing her, but before I picked her up I played Sona all the time as well. So cool to see someone proving that even these older, simpler enchanters can have high skill expression along with the 200 years champs.

    Old Sona main here. A couple of interesting notes:
    - To learn sona well, it's very helpful to hover over your q and w to know what the actual range of them are. This will help with safely poking and with max range heal saves, which happens more often than not (the range of w is huge). It's very important to stay at your max range due to your extremely low self-agency.
    - Versus mage supports (Brand, Xerath) you can just sit back and level w first. It having a shield and heal at the same time really helps keeping your ally alive. Mage supports rely on takedown income to stay relevant in the mid/lategame, so denying any chances of that happening puts your scaling champion on an easy advantage. I used to buy relic shield into those matchups, never had a single problem.
    - , Make sure you don't solo cover any towers. Her minion killing capability is one of the worst in the game.
    - Your power chord is an auto attack reset, you can AA on two stacks, cast an ability, and power chord aa immediately after. With that being said, when the game starts, cast your first ability two times so your first burst is stronger (I saw you do that in one of the early clips in this vid, but I didn't hear you mention it)
    - Prioritise W and E power chords over Q. In early game you can strongly poke with above mentioned tactic (aa > q > aa procs all support item stacks)
    - It's very easy to steal kills with q>aa, but her power doesn't really come from items, whereas your ADC does. Make sure you steal as little kills as you can.
    Love the rest of your video! Very clear information. I agree with the pyke hate.

    • @Miku16A1
      @Miku16A1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i did mention the ability cast in base, but actually riot added 2 points in that part of the passive on game start, so you don't have to do it anymore. KSing is something i totally forgot to mention, which sucks because it's a big part of the kind of frustrating accidental shit that happens when playing sona. same with overestimating W's massive heal range, i would've liked to mention that as well, just slipped my mind when writing. probably worked out that i didn't though, would've added like 5 extra minutes of length onto the video. these are great points though, maybe i'll be able to cover them some day.

    Well her play style has changed so much over the years. Old ap Sona with the seraph's active shield and barrier made her a mage with good heals via athene's and utility with power chords (when you could still get in range to send out the power chord without getting one shot in range lol). She's a total shell of what she used to be in terms of that and the q damage ratio nerfs a few years ago completely alienated a large portion of her player base

  • @litfuse293plus3
    @litfuse293plus3 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    sona is actually the best tower damage champion in the game, even better than yorick or sion late game, i'm being completely serious with you. now, they're definitely not better at split pushing itself, but when it actually comes to tower damage, she's a rift herald if rifty decided to throw pianos at towers instead. without demolish, get lich bane and nashors, then just build ap, and you easily do 1400 damage to towers every time you do your blue power cord, which if you do e > w > q or w > e > q, is on a ~5 second cooldown. with demolish, you very easily do upwards of 1800-2000 damage to towers on blue power cord on it's proc. this is with items alone and just demolish. if you're fed, you're doing this in 20 to 30 minutes, gathering storm at this rate is helping a bit, quite a bit when you do rabadons, and demolish is pretty helpful if you want to focus on split pushing as the support which is hilarious to pull off. However, if you feel you're not going to touch towers very often you can do biscuits + archangels for some more sustain and still pull of crazy high tower damage numbers when you do touch them. Just save your abilities when you first walk up and you can chunk turret within the second you're in auto range, even if there's no minions which can translate to about ~500 damage to the tower per blue power cord. with her crazy low CD, open up with blue power cord, wait for demolish proc, then wait for your next power cord and hit it, it takes a bit of time but in early game this translates to hundreds or even 1000+ damage to towers. Be prepared for the enemy team to be like "holy FUCK sona is pressing ctrl + x on our towers" and getting camped out the ass if they have any semblance if being descent players, but with her e + r you can get out of these hairy situations quick if you can spot them coming well enough. pair this with other split push champions and objective pressure becomes insane for you, because if you can run away and distract the enemy then that's good for your split pusher and if they focus the unkillable split pusher then that's good for you, if they're focused on both of you then your jungle, mid and adc have jungle objective advantage/mid push advantage, and basically support your entire team from across the map. you typically win a duel if you have a full kit so if it's just one person then mid/jungle gets equalized objective pressure while you have all of it, which means they learn to send more than one at you and gives mid/jungle more advantage.
    here's the runes if you're curious:
    summon aery/comet
    manaflow band
    transcendence
    gathering storm
    demolish
    revitalize/bone plating (if you love poking and get punished for it too much or suspect to)
    OR
    magical footwear/triple tonic
    biscuits
    ability haste
    adaptive
    health scaling (if demolish ;))/the other two
    general build path if you're curious:
    tear(optional) > lichs > nashors (or boots second which is either sorc shoes/lucidity followed by nashors) > archangels/horizon focus > (any ap item to contend with the enemy) > rabadons (before or after fifth item) > sell boots for any other ap item, your e should keep you sped at this rate 24/7 + lich ms = sanic so it effectively becomes useless.
    for support item do zak zak, but it's not imperative to keep it unless you really need vision, if you plan on doing scaling ap items like rod, then build those first then follow with lichs + nashors. Likewise, lich is a core item, so you can probably settle for just tear in favor of lichs, but if you're taking a lot of damage or dying then it might be best to put it off as your third item.
    You're probably saying any ap champ can delete towers with lich + nashors, but because of sona's blue power cord, it's like rifty on crack.
    tl;dr sona is a sleeping split push support that, with lich's bane, nashors and other high ap items, can do 1000+ or even 2000 damage to towers if you run demolish.

    as a ex high diamond sona top main currently masters, sona is not a low impact enchanter but rather is only that until you start getting some gold around level 11 or so then you become a high dps burst mage with your secondary role being a enchanter to help your team, you are the hard carry of your team, keeping your team alive while also half healthing any champ that comes close, as long as you stay alive in a team fight and play it well you will win it, also why build support when you can build damage and carry instead, its more fun that way.
