I can't tell you how many times I watch teammates at 5% hp play so far back they don't help with anything cuz they are afraid to die. After a team fight just finishes, push lane/objectives and find a way to suicide. Your team needs you at 100% hp, not at 25% sitting on 2k gold having to play safe which actually hurts your team. The most satisfying way is to get executed under enemy turret at low health WHILE THEY'RE UNDERNEATH IT. Though the most smart way is probably to either get executed by minions or die to turret after winning a teamfight.
There is actually more to that. Usually in 5 Stacks it highly depends on the teamcomp and the situation whether one player just sui's in and who stays back to clear waves. Sometimes it is even better to stay alive with low hp (e.g. when you have long range wave clear and you lost a fight in the middle of the map) and sometimes you can probably just full hp tactical int for tower hp when you pushed tier 2 or even nexus turrets. I think that would just be too much for the video or they simply forgot to mention it
Wow, this documentary actually taught me more about how to play ARAM properly, than any other actual 'guide'... while also giving me background and context to understand how the meta came to be this way, topped off with fun trivia. ... Absolutely amazing video! the amount of value I got from this one piece of content alone is actually ridiculous when I think about all the volumes of improvement content out there.
22:50 "It will atleast still take 20 minutes for your minions to reach the enemy side." Actually true though, you can win a fight on your side and have all enemies respawn before even being able to deal damage to the tower.
I played 2 games at 3am because of this video, one had a toxic vayne on the ennemy team (must be the 3am factor) and my team had a great comeback, the second one someone crashed, the ennemy team spawned killed us instead of hitting the nexus and we cameback 15 minutes later... Should have seen the entire video first tho bc I didn't start Guardian lol
"Ranked" aram would literally defeat the purpose of ARAM and anyone who wishes for it obviously doesn't get the spirit of the game mode. And if you think for a second that no one will be toxic in this ranked mode, you're sorely mistaken.
@Krytrephex I agree completely, I was just saying that it's there specifically because winning doesn't matter. It's a random mode, so trying hard to win all the time will leave a bad taste in your mouth. That's what I meant by spirit. It's a for fun mode because there's no balance whatsoever. It's the same ish with people going "OMG THERE NEEDS TO BE RANKED URF" Like, no. And to make it even more laughable, all of these people begging for a competitive version of these modes are the first people that are gonna be toxic in em anways lol.
I used to be in “high Elo” Aram before I got my account permabanned (thousands of games played). Now when I play aram im still shocked that people don’t buy guardian items. So fucking shocked it’s so insanely overpowered but it’s always ignored. I always bought guardian horn and triple reju beads on tanks and prioritized playing tanks. So busted.
@@ComfortableTool86 Depends what tank, tanks like Leona and Ornn are hilariously funny to play bc you become unkillable while constantly being a nuisance. I played a full armor conq Taric once and 2v1ed mid-late game lol
As a guy who plays almost nothing but aram solo, I can say most of this is pretty on point. But also the whole freezing thing does happen a shocking amount of times in just casual aram games. It mostly ends up happening when both teams are either scalers or early gamers and refuse to fight each other, so they both attempt to freeze each other to force a fight out so they can take advantage of health kits. Also please feed your puros, if I have to ping one more person holding onto 2 snacks all game ill go insane.
this video is surprisingly interesting! it has been appearing in my recommended section for weeks and now I see why! btw the edit and music choice makes this docu very engaging
Coordinating an exploding poro is one of the most satisfying things, esp if the enemy team catches on w/ a moment of truce to contribute and witness it together
As a former high elo ARAM player, I really miss the dark harvest days, they were hilarious, especially Jhin one-shotting anyone. I find lethality assassin Lee-Sin to be really OP if you manage to snowball with him (assuming you're good with him and you face squishies) one q, auto, e and tiamat active and they're all gone xD High elo ARAM is where its at. And old fiddle with the crow was so annoying but I loved it
Incredible video ! I'm a french aram player since like 2 years now and see someone talk about the competitive aspect of this gamemode is fucking amazing, good job
I remember when there was no ARAM mode and players were creating custom games titled "ARAM" using the normal Summoner's Rift map, but you were not allowed to go to other lanes except mid. Good times.
I'm still so fucking sad that they never even TRIED to balance TT and let it fall away and die with a whimper. Especially having seen what per-game mode balancing could do for ARAM.
I mean the truth is that, statistically, basically nobody played TT. Legit didn't appear in a certain graph that included every gamemode's playrate while ARAM was at a consistent 2nd place
@@sebawuba8533 Don't give me that bullshit. They never touched it. The last change to the mode was on 5.11, and that was mostly jg camp values. Before that was 3.10 with a couple item changes. That's it. Last time before that was when it was reworked in season 1. They never gave ANY care to the game mode, never promoted it, never did anything to address its health. Never added plates when SR did. Of course, they didn't start doing champ specific changes when they did for ARAM. They never gave a shit about the mode, they didn't give a shit when it was dying, they didn't want it to stay alive or give it a chance. There are no draft alternatives to SR. No competitive alternatives to SR. Because they didn't give a shit about the mode. It was made to fester until they were able to justify pulling it. Stop defending that.

I was today years old when finding out that there was a whole ARAM community Btw, do you guys remember when Riot said that they were going to put rankeds in ARAM? It was like 4 years ago if I can remember....
It only seems like all they do is make new skins and abandon other game modes,at this game mode deleting rate they may remove aram in the future,if they do,I am done with this shit game
They are not putting ranked into ARAM because it's a for fun mode. They will delete ARAM if nobody plays it, like what happened to Dominion or Twisted Treeline
@@narakarrarr6191 Honestly can't blame their decision tho. Nexus Blitz at its lowest when all the hype went away still had more players than Twisted Treeline. Like double or triple the players.
I've been playing a ton of aram for the last year or so and it was so funny to see some of the tactics i use on a regular basis (instinctively) be addressed in the video, stalling for time when you have a scaling comp, freezing the wave so you have a chance at a fight, the tricks with the poros, i used to think aram games were fast but as of late i've had games go for 35-40 minutes lol, i'm nowhere near to the top of the ladder but it was nice to see other players coming up with the same ideas, great video man
I have played ARAM only for years and years now. Somehow hit too 13% and learned most of this through osmosis but still learned new stuff in this video.so well done

"One team has to be committed to being cowards and hiding under their tower and the other has to be committed to look for a fight and this is pretty much impossible to do in a solo aram" Idk man, sounds like every aram I've ever played xD
at a high enough solo elo for aram, freezing does happen. I've frozen waves in probably over 100 games and I've never been part of a high elo 5 stack. Just really good players vs each other.
I don't know how many ARAMs you've played, I've been playing it rather consistently for about 9 years now and I think I figured it out quite quickly. It's useful to tell if someone's camping the bushes pre-minion spawn. Also it can give away sneaky Teemo players.
I miss Dominion, i was properly sad when it was discontinued. Where my other 2 Dominion lovers @?? Also, i clocked the "ideal comp" from the early days of ARAM, so that was pretty cool of me i guess
I miss dominion. If I was ever going to be high elo in any mode it was dominion. In 5s I was a bronze noob, but in dominion I don't know what it was, I just stomped everyone. Kass and then when he was banned, Yorick, if go solo bot and push for their tower. I lost so few games - like 3 in 80 - and eventually found my bronze ass in teams with diamond players. I even "laned" bot against CoL Chuuper (CoL being complexity I think, some pro team at the time and he was their adc) - didn't lose that match, either. Like I just kicked dicks and it was so much fun and now it's gone and I gotta be bad in 5s again RIP Dominion 💔
I am ranked around 400 on the aram leaderboard (3135mmr, Top 0.09% currently) and I play with people in the top 100 often. You made high elo aram sound a lot more tryhard and serious than it really is. I think you were talking more about 5 man competitive aram than solo queue which could've been more clear. I only play solo and half of the stuff that you talk about, rarely anyone does. I have never seen a freeze ever. People don't build lee sin as support. People don't just sit under turret and waveclear for 10 minutes unless they have no engage. Most games are under 25 minutes. We try to win, but we don't stoop that low.
@@tractie_ I would say learn more champs and don't be greedy about the champs you play. Like you should try to pick for your comp instead of just playing champs you want to play. I also use my extra reroll if the team doesn't look great, even if I already have a champ I want. Then just make sure to play a lot. Pretty general tips, but that's what I've got. :D
I'm so happy to see that my triple reju with Guardian's Horn strat is metioned in this video, it's still broken today but with new items it's much harder to pick up this strategy because of how the new items give more value in the start
It wouldn't really work because despite all the champion specific balance changes, some champions are flat out better than others. Sona and Seraphine both have severe champion specific nerfs and they still are highest winrate champions here.
dam, 12,000 + arams, played since before the mode was officially a 'mode' and was only creatable in customs...finally watched a video that relates to me...really dont know how to react right now besides thank you for the content lol ya never hear many people talk about these lil details and niches but they alllllllll count....ALWAYS FEED THE PORO *side note: i have maybe 2 videos on my channel of old aram games for what it's worth....makes me wanna upload more lol*
I went into this video, being happy that a youtuber talks about the mode i play all the time. Watching a bit into it, i decided to check my mmr on those pages he mentioned and found out that i'm top 500 on both EU servers (actually top 300 on side account and slightly lower on the main because of playing with friends recently, but apparently still in that top 500). And i can tell you, playing in that high elo is no joke. If you're queuing alone like me, you'll play against and with the same people, over and over again. So much so that these people naturally start to group up into stacks and talking with each other simply because they encountered one another again. And what i can tell you, is that most of these players that i know and play against are NOT playing on ARAM only accounts. They are on lvl 300-400- a few of them actually on like lvl 600 account with all of the champions, showing up to a game with whatever. And i could go on and on with ramblings and experience i got from those hours and hours of playing the mode, slowly creeping up on 10k ARAMs on main and god knows how many on all of the side and smurf accounts i created and abandoned. But in the end, it's the mode i like and enjoy to the point that i had like 20-25 ranked games 3 seasons ago, barely done placements 2 seasons ago, and not even being placed the last. I played rotating game modes more than normals or ranked these past 3 years. Oh and one more thing. Please pick a tank. It'll win you games more than you'd imagine.
As someone who only plays ARAM i will say this is the fast paced, catch someone making a mistake go all in and hope it works, off-meta building fun that i love. I started playing it because me and a friend of mine went duo queue bot lane and would hold our own lanes but other lanes would spiral out of control in iron- silver elo the highest we got to was silver 1&2. Now playing only aram it looks like my mmr is 1935 or about P1/P2 area and it makes sense you get all kinds of ranks and players you can tell when if someone is uncomfortable. I started out a support main with Blitz/Naut/Thresh when i was S2 in Solo Queue, now I play Jayce/Sion/Syndra/Galio/Yorick/Cho/Heimer and Udyr. The game mode forces you to have a brief understanding of champ abilities and mechanics and it also teaches you to keep track of cooldowns , distancing, and ranges of abilities. I love this mode sorry for the paragraph TL;DR silver in Solo/Duo queue plat in Aram and i switched up my champs to help my team when they need it
Loved the analysis since I think ARAM rewards skilled play in a very unique way. I feel like a little more detail could have been given on how high elo ARAM requires especially good knowledge of item builds. I know you touched upon it with Support Lee Sin example which was great, since I remember many games where I would trade for bruisers on my ARAM teams so that my teammates could play easier support/poke roles while I focused on minimizing the liability of my weaker pick by playing the utility role that most people forget how to do, but an even simpler example is analyzing on the fly how much MR/Armor to expect in each team's builds. If for example you have a team of four Enchanters that curb stomps earlygame but the game for any reason lasts a long time, you can bet your ass the other team will build mass MR to counter that. In contexts like that, even the least desirable assassin or fighter as your 5th pick building hyper damage oriented AD towards endgame might be exactly what your team needs to close out the game. ARAM in that way I think requires you to be especially gold efficient, picking items not just to increase the strength of your character but to benefit the situation as it is demanded. That type of gameplay doesn't happen as quickly in SR where lanes being split far apart means selfish solo lane builds that later counter the opposing laner are more common.
dang I'm an ARAM player and I didn't know these were High Elo things lmao, feeding poro to get rid of your "mark" is like the most basic thing I learnt playing lol and the minion wave is also a thing that I didn't know it was "high Elo" aram strat lmao is just that it gets boring when the other team just sits under turret so you have to tell your team "hey let them out of their cave" so naturally we let the minions crash int othe middle instead of clearing near their turret lol. This video was crazy fun to watch and so funny too. I didn't know I was in "high elo" ARAM till just now after watching your video lol thanks

You assumed he wasn't working on it before and gave the illusion of choice
Yeah I think the first time I saw him mention “high elo ARAM” was the pre-Christmas poll (where OnlyFans won haha).

Perhaps he had the options almost ready and made a poll for prioritizing one or the other
The best ARAM games are always at 3 am where everyone's names are 'Jenna Tull' and 'Anna Bortion'

There are periods when i only play aram. I might even like it more than summoners rift. Id actually love to see ranked aram.
Same here. Sometimes I just need a break from the ever so toxic SR.
Ranked aram actually existed. In season 5 or 6 it was a thing.
@@Tomislav9 I remember trying to Que for it and the que times were super long and so I quit everytime before I even got into a game.
It's the same ish with people going "OMG THERE NEEDS TO BE RANKED URF"
Like, no.

So busted.
sweat more
Especially now that guardian items give a mythic passive stack, making your first item power spike even better. Always build it
Yup guardians horns feels amazing with tanks
tanks are boring tho. 99% of people playing aram are just playing for fun and prioritize rolling a fun champ over having the best chance to win
And I thought I was weird for being challenger in flex queue. These guys got to a whole new level.
3v3 and aram will be in my heart forever. Thank you for the video.
this video is surprisingly interesting! it has been appearing in my recommended section for weeks and now I see why!
btw the edit and music choice makes this docu very engaging
if there's one thing you can take away from this vis it's that you should always feed the poros
they just too damn cute
Coordinating an exploding poro is one of the most satisfying things, esp if the enemy team catches on w/ a moment of truce to contribute and witness it together
As a former high elo ARAM player, I really miss the dark harvest days, they were hilarious, especially Jhin one-shotting anyone. I find lethality assassin Lee-Sin to be really OP if you manage to snowball with him (assuming you're good with him and you face squishies) one q, auto, e and tiamat active and they're all gone xD High elo ARAM is where its at. And old fiddle with the crow was so annoying but I loved it
I miss the old Fiddle Crow ...
22:53: It will take at least 20 minutes for your minions to reach the enemy's side of the map. If that was the case lol
seconds, probably
though it can feel like it
Hes not wrong, 20 minutes because you have scaling comp and decide to frezee after ace lol

Yes !!!! I played then too :D playing since beta in 2009
I'm still so fucking sad that they never even TRIED to balance TT and let it fall away and die with a whimper. Especially having seen what per-game mode balancing could do for ARAM.
I still miss TT, I still rage with my friend over the fact that it's gone
Ikr, my best memories playing league was in TT, before and after the rework, I just really liked it :(
I mean the truth is that, statistically, basically nobody played TT.
Stop defending that.

at a high enough solo elo for aram, freezing does happen. I've frozen waves in probably over 100 games and I've never been part of a high elo 5 stack. Just really good players vs each other.
The Poro part blew my fucking mind.

Like I just kicked dicks and it was so much fun and now it's gone and I gotta be bad in 5s again
RIP Dominion 💔
Top quality OperaGX ad. I should start using it so that I can keep school tabs open while playing games.
Agree. If you're a good player it isnt hard to get to high elo Aram, it will take a lot of games sure, but you will eventually get there
I am currently sitting at 2690 mmr, top 2%
Do you have any tips on how to improve and climb?
@@tractie_ I would say learn more champs and don't be greedy about the champs you play. Like you should try to pick for your comp instead of just playing champs you want to play. I also use my extra reroll if the team doesn't look great, even if I already have a champ I want. Then just make sure to play a lot. Pretty general tips, but that's what I've got. :D

*side note: i have maybe 2 videos on my channel of old aram games for what it's worth....makes me wanna upload more lol*
I didn't realize that aram was so big that it takes 20 minutes for minions to travel nexus to nexus.
It'll win you games more than you'd imagine.
what's the "highly in-depth educational content" he is talking about?
...It's for a friend
I love this mode sorry for the paragraph
TL;DR
silver in Solo/Duo queue plat in Aram and i switched up my champs to help my team when they need it
“there is a reason there’s no snowball on summoners rift”
kaisa r: am i a joke to you
Loved the analysis since I think ARAM rewards skilled play in a very unique way.
That type of gameplay doesn't happen as quickly in SR where lanes being split far apart means selfish solo lane builds that later counter the opposing laner are more common.
the thing is who cares about aram give back 3v3 :(

dang I'm an ARAM player and I didn't know these were High Elo things lmao, feeding poro to get rid of your "mark" is like the most basic thing I learnt playing lol and the minion wave is also a thing that I didn't know it was "high Elo" aram strat lmao is just that it gets boring when the other team just sits under turret so you have to tell your team "hey let them out of their cave" so naturally we let the minions crash int othe middle instead of clearing near their turret lol.
This video was crazy fun to watch and so funny too. I didn't know I was in "high elo" ARAM till just now after watching your video lol
