    Here at Reno, Nevada, USA we have a company that owns five F5 aircraft. They are used for combat training against pilots of the United States Navy combat school ("Top Gun School".) It requires only 20 people to maintain these five aircraft, and each one flies about twice a week.

    In Norway we had a expression for this plane: ”The nice weather moped”.

    Hi @FlywithMagnar , thank you for producing these videos. The F-5 A and E and later G (Tigershark) are one of my favorite aircraft family in aviation hstory. DO you have information on how the wing is attached to the fuselage?

    Thanks for making these videos! Have you had the opportunity to fly some of these older lightweight jets like this one, or the A-4? Possibly a MiG-21?

      Unfortunately, no. The F-5 link trainer is the closest I ever have been flying a jet.

      I flew the CF-5 (CF-116) in what was then called the Canadian Armed Forces. While delightful to fly, as a war machine it left much to be desired, such as RWR, Radar and enough dry thrust. In joint exercises we always got creamed either before or after marking our targets. It was like walking through a shooting gallery wearing a blindfold and earplugs. The 104 was a much better tool of war. Apoxia due to the touchy pressure/oxygen system was also a problem. If you started really enjoying flying it at altitude, you were probably in an oxygen deprived state! In the final analysis I feel the F-5 was a plane for a plane's sake, rather than an effective and survivable weapon system.

    • @doabarrellroll69
      @doabarrellroll69 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@royalcityjazz the problem was that Canada literally ordered what was basically the base spec of the F-5, as most of things you mentioned were options except more thrust, for that, no amount of money in the world could get you more.

    Tusen takk for en flott video. Lærte en del nytt om F5. Videoen har fått tommel opp og abonnement er startet.
    Jeg så nylig en annen video her med en lavtflygende F5. Noe jeg fant spesielt interessant var at flyet brukte en rakett booster (Jato/Rato)
    Jeg ønsker å bygge en F5 modell sammen med barnebarnet men har så langt ikke klart å finne bilder av hvordan denne boosteren ser ut. Har du tips til hvor jeg kan finne noe?

      Om du besøker Flysamlingen på Gardermoen, så vil du se en C-130 med JATO-flasker på skroget. Eller så kan du sende en epost til mn@flywithmagnar.com og jeg vil sende deg et bilde.

      If the F-20 had been in produciton today and updated with modern avionics, then the answer is yes. The cheapest flighter to purchase and operate today is the SAAB Gripen, and it would have been a strong contender.

    • @rafaelschipiura9865
      @rafaelschipiura9865 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brazil still uses the F-5, extensively updated with modern avionics, just like Magnar said. It is still a capable fighter if that's done (only Brazil did this), but there's no future for it in the next decades, it has received all of the possible updates and it won't keep up in the future. They are also old, aircraft frames have a limited life, which will be reached on the longest flying planes.
      So, for the one country that did update them, they are still useful. But it's not a good idea to invest on them now, because they won't keep up for much longer.

      Un avion prácticamente nuevo el Tiburón Tigre F-20 de 1981 con motor potente G.E. 404 que le permitía operar a Mach 2 .
      Solo se construyeron tres prototipos.
