Pretty poor shop teacher. Most wood glue seeps deepr into the grain staining it than you would care to sandpaper off. In which case planing would be more effective and efficient. Better to just use a controlled amount of glue. Reduce waste, clean up, 'sanding' & time. But I caught your drift. The best part of your post, you took woodworking. Far more useful than 'liberal arts'.

If you know you know. It's still getting planed or sanded after, but the edge alignment looks pretty good. Definitely better than some of the edge joinery I've seen.
@@evaristocastaneda4820 the optimal time for woodglue is 24 hours, for those fibers to properly absorb the liquid and bond together tightly, glue is already dry in just hours or so but the wood bond is not yet that great, never seen a five minute dry glue though

quick recommendation, tighten clamps in rhe middle first to avoid glue pockets and uneven glue distribution on one end to the other. if you clamp one side first then you push glue towards the other side

You have MASSIVE machinery, and some of the highest end tools I’ve ever seen someone have in a collection. I legit can’t think of anyone else whos wood shop for industrial tools even come close to yours.
Not only more surface area, but it also allows the wood itself to directly resist shear forces without loading the glue and without any complicated cuts and joints
That bit is for joining endgrain. The long grain will bond with the glue without need of complex joinery. Just make sure your pieces are straight and square to one another.
For those commenting on the excessive amount of glue, take a closer look around the shop. Notice the large 'Titebond' sign? Notice the bottles of Titbond glue handy? This video isn't about the joiner bit, it's a glue commercial.
Actually just butting the wood together is just as strong, but the finger joint makes alignment a snap. Finger joints are great when end grain connecting.
I’m sure this guy has a plainer or whatever it’s called where in 1 or 2 swipes it’s all marked off which is way easier and you can argue that since he used so much glue there is inferably a stronger bond

Excess glue can always be cleaned away but adding it is a bit trickier...
