I made my own yarn pegs ... I wrapped yarn around a clothespin and wrote the yarn color and brand on the clothespin. Comes in handy when i need to replace a color in my stash too!
I absolutely love the peg method of choosing colours. What else is nice is if you are making something for someone else as a gift eg, say a throw / blanket, they can look through the pegs and choose their own colours! I'm making a throw for my sister in law. She loved choosing her colours. My daughter has done the same. We had fun while she picked out all she wanted and placed them how she'd like them crocheted up. We also had lovely mum daughter time doing it.
I have a craft box and the little cards you get for embroidery threads and I wind the wool round them and write the shade and brand and number on them and store them in the box. You can then get them out like the pegs and play around with colours 😊
I have just found your channel, and I find your tutorials wonderful and easy to follow. Once it gets cooler here (Australia currently summer) I will be getting all my crocheting 🧶stuff out of retirement. 😊
Thanks for sharing. I too struggle sometimes with colours and I don't think there is anything better than the actual yarn itself wrapped around a peg. I follow the polkadotgiraffe but for some reason she isn't appearing in my feed. It's been a lovely reminder, thank you :) xx
These samples would be awesome when you are making something for someone else - they can see and pick the colors! Especially kids, who can be so picky..
Wonderful video Rebekah! I always have trouble picking colors even when they are right in front of me, lol! This has been so helpful! Very useful and helpful! Thank you!
I’ve been toying with the idea of a shade card or yarn pegs (I have some from The Polkadot Giraffe in my Etsy cart as we speak). Thank you for sharing this info! Now I know what will be best for me! 😊
I open a word document, right click to copy image on website, then paste into word (sizing the images so that I can view side by side. Super quick and the images aren't saved unless I want keep for future reference.

Great tips, thank you 🙏🏻
Great idea!!
Do you ever use a color wheel? I find it helpful.
If you purchase two shade cards, then you can use one card to cut out the separate colors then laminate them for use over and again. 🙂
Cool!
