Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I need to rebuild one of these engines for my swap but since it is my first engine rebuild/swap I have been nervous to start. I really appreciate all the detail you put into these videos! They will be my reference when I start my rebuild!
Good luck with your rebuild. This engine is quite straightforward so dont be afraid. Mistakes are learning curves and there is nothing more satisfying than driving an own rebuild. Read up as much as you can
What’s the greatest source of knowledge for a rebuild on these. I ended up buying a completely disassembled om606 and this is going to be my first rebuild. Loved the video by the way it was full of great knowledge!
greatest source of knowledge is getting your hands dirty:) then read up as much as you can. Get a manual, with some searching you'll find them online for free. And if in doubt ask someone who knows and have done it before. These engines are pretty straightforward so dont chicken out. Its a great feeling driving an own rebuild. If you need some info glad to help.
Last motor i rebuilt was in my 1959 mercedes diesel. The cooling passages were rusty. I filled the cooling passages with apple cider vinegar and let it sit for 6 days and flushed it. Looked like new.
Thats the way to go. You can buy also a citric acid from Mercedes which you mix with water and drive for a day or so. You will be amazed what comes out of the cooling system. Vinegar works the same of course. Great job
Great video! I was wondering where you got all that zinc plated hardware 10:08 from and if you could give me a part number if it comes as a set, much appreciated!
i will try. But look it up on the web, on Motorservice website or KOLBENSCHMIDT. Tutorials there and lots of good info regarding engine building. Good luck with your 606:)
Hi.. If there is no warpage or bad corrosion damage the block is left alone. When you skim the block you have to be extra careful with piston protrusion so that the valves/pre combustion chamber wont hit the piston. There are shims for the pre combustion chamber , but like i said no warpage = no skim. If the block is skimmed my machine shop will trim the valve seats accordingly.
That's cool. That makes perfect sense. I'm just surprised that a straight-6 engine that is that long wasn't warped at all. Especially with that many miles
No. When i leave the engine at the machine shop i always leave the pistons and rings for them to check. Piston ring gapping makes sense if you're building race engines with custom pioston/rings. Everything on this engine is in STD so there isnt really a need for it. But i must admit with the shitty aftermarket parts(even from GOETZE or ELRING) it would be wise to check. If you check them be careful so that they are perfectly square in the engine block and measure them near the top and the bottom.
How did you order all the bolts and parts that can be seen In the video at 10:15? Did you find new pre-chambers somewhere? Can I get a link or spare part number for bolts and other parts? Thank you in advance and greetings from Finland!
Thanks for the reply! I greatly appreciate this much good information and the professionalism is conveyed in the video. Isn't passivation bad for pre-chambers? And were those metal balls in place when you sent them in for processing, or did you disassemble them?
and what about the rest? Popping the engine in is fairly easy, but it would destroy the drivetrain in a heartbeat...Swapping engines is a nightmare at least for me. For people who do that kind of work huge respect if done properly, it takes skill and knowledge mating everything together
@@heritagesteel1976 many thanks for replying, I'm thinking of removing and cleaning the prechambers ,would the springs need renewing, cars only done 79thou?
Im rebuilding my engine now. Ive beenbtrying to decide if the genuine rings are worth buying. I can choose between mercedes at 100 dollars each or NPR pr Europe at 30 dollars each
thank you!! really depends on the parts quality you choose. If you want a squaky clean engine with all parts treated it gets expensive really quick, as huge labour costs are involved. IF new pistons are needed as of now they cost 300 EUR a piece.Just for reference. Then all the other stuff. Easily 6/7k for a decent build

Мужик, ти неймовірний, твої відео - це шедеври! Щясти!
Чекаю на 3 частину! 👍
Keep up the good work on the best car diesels in the world mercedes Benz om616 om617s and your 606 ronrdzl
they were Mercedes Masterpieces. There will never be something as good and as reliable ever again

Trabalho bem profissional e bom tuturial para mexer neste motor. Continue o bom trabalho
obrigado Rodrigo. Espero que tenha ajudado em algo...

Hi. Not available as a set. You unbolt everything and give it away to a shop who does the zinc plating.
awesome
Can you show the proper way to gap piston rings in a video?
Rebuilding a strong 606 in the upcoming winter!!

💯
Please please please tell me where I can buy all these parts, I’ll buy them in a heartbeat!!!
Who did the decking of the block? From the video it looks like it wasn't done.

Did you replace oil Jets? If you did where did you get them?
no. they dont wear...you can test them with compressed air if they open. If they do they are fine.
did you gap the rings?

Hi. No i zinc plated everything including the pre chambers. You have to dismantle everything to the last nut and bolt and send it away for treatment:)

Hope you're gonna put the om606 into the Land Rover Discovery 1 behind you in the workshop. That is my dream to do this engine swap. 😅

Heritagesteel, I have beefed up drive train already. Just need an R380 to OM606 Fly wheel adaptor from Dieselpumpuk. 😁
How much does a full rebuild cost
🔥👊🏽
any recommendation on value stem seals
Either original Mercedes ones but the ones from REINZ are not bad either. Careful if different colors(different thickness in diameter of valve stems)

From my experience Genuine is not necessary. You can get pretty good ones from GOETZE
Hello great videos.... You are from Portugal'?
yes i am.
what type of van did you get the engine from
a S124 300 Turbodiesel...which was rotten
Where are u located
