Il y a près de chez moi, et tout près de l'Académie Arhtur de Greef, un petit parc dans lequel trône un buste du compositeur. Je connaissais son importance dans l''histoire de la musique belge mais n'avais jamais rien entendu de lui !
Eh oui, les Belges, comme les Français, n'aiment pas rendre hommage à leurs génies ! "A beau briller qui vient de loin" pourrait-on dire en transformant un dicton célèbre.

-- Near my home, and very close to the Arthur de Greef Academy, there is a small park in which sits a bust of the composer. I knew of his importance in the history of belgian music but had never heard anything by him! Yes, the Belgians, like the French, don't like to pay tribute to their geniuses! "Is brighter who comes from afar."

Very beautiful and elegant work ! The main melody of the Largo is especially beautiful ! The four movements are :
I. Largo (6.45)
II. Rigodon (5.50)
III. Orientale (3.48)
IV. Norwegian Springdands (4.53)
And just one thing : I think the conductor is the Walloon conductor René Defossez (René Defausse seems not to exist).

Very interesting tribute to baroque legacy in the first two movements. Especially Largo is a wonderful masterpiece with some reminiscence of famous Bach Suite's air but with somewhat Mahlerian gusto (and honestly at same level of Mahler's magic slow movement of fifth symphony). The outer movements are well balanced and integrated into suite although lose baroque taste to rather get towards the xix century stream of "exotic/popular" fashion.
