Wow. Another gem. What a fantastic piano concerto. We are discovering a lot of these late 19th century, early 20th century composers that were hidden away. Just amazing. Arthur De Greef.
Questo concerto si merita tutta la stima per la sua concezione e la virtuosità. Notevole il carattere post-romantico di derivazione Lisztiana ma non solo.Ottima l'esecuzione. Complimenti per questa proposta, non facile da reperire.
de Greef is said to have commissioned a new concerto from Grieg, who sadly did not find inspiration this time and gave up the project after just a few preliminary sketches. After a composers' competition (1997) on the subject of creating something on these sketches, there are, however, several "Grieg2" concertos around!
There were more than sixty entries, among which perhaps the most modernistic, by Alberto Colla, was awarded the prize. Some more romantic, "Grieg2"-based concertos can be found on youtube, and a few have been commercially recorded, among them mine, on Naxos Grand Piano (GP 689).
The recording sounds almost a half-tone sharp (practically B minor), but the work is certainly a very attractive, not overly showy Romantic concerto that deserves to be heard. The programmatic titles show a possible connection to Beethoven's "Les Adieux" sonata.

I'm sorry, I cannot see or hear this connection, please explain.
There is another recording with Artur Pizarro and the Flemish SO under Yannick Nézet-Séguin which I feel is superior to this one.
