    Thank you so much for your video. I have been learning how to make permanent jewelry on and off for over a year now. I didn't think the 28 gauge would be strong enough, but now that I know that it is... off I go. Thank you so much for your video! If you don't mind sharing, where did you purchase your curb chain? I did see the product code, but not the site. Thanks!

      Glad it was helpful! Here is the curb chain: stonesandfindings.com/product/ci13s-1mm-fine-curb-chain-by-the-meter-sterling-silver-925/
      We are actually wholesalers of premium quality chains and components that supply to businesses making the permanent bracelets. We don't sell the welders and I make these videos based on questions I've been receiving from customers.

    This was a very informative video! Thank you so much for doing thi s. I wanted to get some 14 K solid gold chains from your website. I would like to make my own jump rings. Could you share some information on soft dead soft 1/2hard wires etc.? Also if I get the soft wire do I have to harden the jump ring?Will a 26 gauge or a 28 gauge hold and last for permanent jewelry question mark? sorry for all the questions I am new to jewelry and your videos have been very helpful. Thank you

      THanks for watching. If you are welding, then it would not matter if the jump rings are soft or half hard because the loop will close and won't open (something you worry about with soft jump rings if you're not welding). However, if you want to harden any wire or jump ring, you can simply hammer (though this will deform the shape a little) or put into a tupperware and shake. This will work harden it.
      26 or 28 ga - I have tried 26 ga and it works. 28 might be too thin and can stretch into an oval when you tug on it. However, if welded, it will not come undone easily. I have never tried it though and it would be an interesting experiment. You've given me an idea for another video :)

    Thank you for the video!! I am using 26 gauge but setting is really hard. 5 and 6 watts with gas are too strong to weld but 5 watts without the gas didn't weld (I assume its too weak.) It is really hard to success welding with thin wire rings. What is your setting for gauge 26??

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  ปีที่แล้ว

      The gas shouldn't affect the ability to weld - it just blows a puff of argon, which is heavier than oxygen. The idea of the gas is that it prevents flame, hence reduces oxidation. Perhaps it has a bit of effect on the temperature, as in cooling it faster.
      I generally get a successful weld at 5w all in one go for 26ga, but the condition of the electrode (sharper is more powerful than duller) has a lot to do with it.
      A number of people have been asking the same thing. I am currently working on filming experiments of finer wire welding under different variables. I hope to get that done soon.

    I want to know if you've ever used any other welders? The one I have blows out a lot of my jewelry.

      There isn't another micro welder like this out there. You might want to watch my Micro Welder Fails video - there are some common mistakes that you can tweak to avoid this. Power setting too high, the jump ring might not be touching completing and the rings curl backwards...

    Do you recommend welding on the sides or on the top of the seam?

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  ปีที่แล้ว

      right on top if the seam - you'll get the most secure weld. Also, touching on the tip of the electrode, as opposed to the side, will give you the strongest power for your weld.

    Is dead soft too soft for 26 gauge? Thanks 😊

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it will not matter whether it is deadsoft or soft for welding - especially when you are making tiny rings. It would likely warp if bigger diameter. If you find it too soft to keep the shape you want, you can always work harden them. Simply put rings into a tupperware, any plastic container and gently shake. It will harden your rings. Let me know how you like the hack.

    What power was your welder set at?

    • @stonesandfindings
      @stonesandfindings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally set it at 5w for thin rings. If it is thicker than 20 ga, I set it at 7w. If the electrode has become dull and you don't sharpen, you need to up the wattage.
