    This is my favorite Zeppelin song and it makes me sad that most people have never even heard of it. This song is the definition of epic. The sound in this song takes you on a journey and the lyrics are so reflective. Another thing that makes this great is that there are multiple ways to interpret what it means. All these things give the song such a pure Zeppelin vibe.

    This is probably Led Zeppelin's greatest song. People say Kashmir and Whole Lotta Love and, of course, Stairway To Heaven, but this tune is nigh perfection.

This song isnt the jamming song that some Zep fans are used too but its not all about how loud the music is , its the words in the song that make the song just as much as the music! Thanks. Jimmy Page had originally intended the song to be an instrumental piece; he recorded around 14 guitar tracks to overdub the harmony section.[5] Robert Plant later added lyrics, which are dedicated to an old girlfriend who, ten years earlier, had made him choose either her or his music. Plant explained this in an interview in 1975.

    This has always been up in my top 5 Led Zeppelin songs since I first heard it at 12, it’s towards the end of the 4th side of the Double LP “Physical Graffiti” (My favorite Led Zep release) which is absolutely loaded with great songs, but then this one caught me off guard towards the end and always really moved me with its dreamy lingering guitar and short bursts of energy.
    This is definitely one of those refreshing Led Zep “deep tracks” that was never played in heavy rotation like their many “hits” that would always get radio airplay.
    Rounding out my Top 5 Led Zep, in no particular order would also include: “Achillies Last Stand”, “In My Time of Dying”, “Out On The Tiles”, and “How Many More Times?”

    This what Plant said: Let me tell you a little story behind the song "Ten Years Gone" on our new album. I was working my ass off before joining Zeppelin. A lady I really dearly loved said, "Right. It's me or your fans." Not that I had fans, but I said, "I can't stop, I've got to keep going." She's quite content these days, I imagine. She's got a washing machine that works by itself and a little sports car. We wouldn't have anything to say anymore. I could probably relate to her, but she couldn't relate to me. I'd be smiling too much. Ten years gone, I'm afraid. Anyway, there's a gamble for you. My comment: 10 years before this song was written Plant was only 16.

    • @pastorofmuppets22
      @pastorofmuppets22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Context.In those days,most people didn't finish high school.By 16,most were working full time.In those days,you could fool the military and join at 16 as many people did.In countries where the drinking age is 18,in those days they'd serve a 16 year old.Many were considered emancipated at 16.Many people got married,and or had kids by 16.So while it may seem a bit weird or far fetched by the standards of 2022,it wouldn't have been in the late 1950's or early 1960's

    • @davidcarter4247
      @davidcarter4247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pastorofmuppets22 We are talking about the 1960s, not the 1860s. In the 1960s to marry in the UK under 21 required the parental consent. 16 was the minimum age with consent which was also the age of consent. Plant and Maureen were 20 when they married. Maureen, a nurse, supported him financially before Zeppelin but he did work for her father at one stage under pressure to earn money. The woman said to be Plant's girlfriend before Maureen was Maureen's little sister. She was 12 in 1964 when the song was written.

Unfortunately John Bonham died when I was 16 (1980) and they decided to part rather than find a different drummer. Some of Robert Plants music was good, but never close to the mysterious feel of Led Zeppelin.

      It was like they were on a different planet. I remember when Kasmir first came out, and people were bummed that it wasn't "otherworldly". But if you go back and listen to Kasmir now, it is otherworldy in different ways than the early stuff. It's freaking genius and people were ragging about it...lol.

      You and I are the same age - I still remember the day Bonzo died very well I had tickets to their upcoming show. There was no decision - they could not go on without John Bonham - actually they could have never gone on as a band without any of them - each was so integral to their sound

      John's death was too much for Robert , having lost his son Karac 3 years earlier & only John was there for his time of grieving
      Is why Led Zeppelin couldn't continue. All felt that

      @@stanflahaut1893 I agree there is some good music out there. As a musician I’ve been into music my whole life…I’m 64. But music today has largely been ruined by record companies. So much of it is formulaic, whereas the music of the past had much more freedom of creativity. You don’t see much 6 minute…10 minute…19 minute tracks today.
      Back then you didn’t have to search for good music. It was everywhere. On the radio or deep album tracks it was everywhere. No cherry picking necessary.
      The guitar work of those decades were more creative as well IMO. But to disagree is what free speech is all about.

    Easily my favorite song in Led Zep’s catalog and also one of my favorite songs, period. Everything about this track is otherworldly and majestic while also being melancholy and nostalgic. This song speaks to me and I do indeed pine on former and lost loves when I hear it, and I often wonder if those ladies hear it(or some other song special to them) and think about me every once in a while as I do them.
