She actually did a song that is rumored to have been intended as a James Bond song, but was allegedly passed over for the Sam Smith one. It's called 24 and is featured on her Honeymoon album.
I'm so sad I didn't follow lana from day one.... I became a massive fan after hearing NFR ...then I discovered all her back catalogue... I love re-living it all again thru new reaction videos...for me it was a glorious time discovering lana, she is just the best x
Yes! I'm even later to the part than and am still haven't listened to everything...but, yes, it's fun seeing people discover Lana for the first time. And it's a real shame that For Whatever Reason abruptly "ended" his channel. Was really looking forward to going back to the beginning after he finished Ocean Blvd.😊
Video Games was the first Lana Del Rey song I ever heard, and I was hooked right away. Since then, I've become a huge fan of hers. I love watching your reactions to Lana's music, and I'm excited to see how you'll react to the Ultraviolence album.
By the way, any feedback on this video itself? Is it worth doing one of these when i do a full album reaction on Patreon, or better to just post a full song?
Born to Die is currently at no 50 in the Billboard album charts over 10 years after release. It has been in the top 200 for 481 weeks which makes it the 19th ranked album for weeks in the top 200.
I found Lana right when she released video games. I didn't know about her earlier work until a couple years after. Born to die and Paradise were and still are my top albums from her in terms of easy listening but she fell off for me with the slower albums but now I've got into Ocean Blvd and that's got some of my favorite songs from her. I like the first half of NFR and singles from ultraviolence but haven't listened to blue banisters. Some songs from chemtrails I like as well. She's been on my radar through these ten years but not on heavy rotation until this last album.
i think its because nobody else makes music like this, the whole baroque pop thing. vintage vibe, cinematic strings paired with a hip hop influenced beat. love her new music too but there's a certain unique quality to her first few albums, including her range and the different vocal styles she sings with. she tends to stick to her upper whisper singing register these days.
Some of the demos of the album tracks are much better IMO. You’ll have to check them out sometime. Always fun to hear an alternate take or hear how something changed.
You’re in the cult with us now, we can see it goes in you, how you read between the lines is how she captivating us. She has a few extras such as Lolita and Without You. Without You is one of her best live performances ever and it was around 2011- truly one of a kind. The way to be exposed to Lana is by hearing the albums and then watch the videos for her visual artistic aesthetics. You’re going to a big dive of 9 albums! So jealous. Live acts from the paradise tour, including the period of time before ultraviolence. her vocal free-styling is so unique, every live sounds deferent
SO glad you asked the question, “why hasn’t she done a Bond theme?” She’s PERFECT for it. “Million Dollar Man” is a great example of a Bond theme song.
So these are some of my favourites live performances I recommend you check out: Million dollar man - live at BBC radio hackney weekend (2012) Money power glory - live at carcassonne festival (2014) Cola - olympia, paris 2013
Lana is a born and raised New Yorker but she always had a thing for California/LA and basically made it a huge part of her personality and image once she finally moved there lol. Btw I am SO glad that you recognized how poetic her lyrics were even back then. There's this unfortunate misconception in Lana fandom that she only became a good lyricist post NFR that I strongly disagree with, to me it's always been a strength of her's. She's definitely a poet as much as she is a musician.
lana’s mother sent her to boarding school because she had a lot of alcohol problems. her mother didn’t want her to come back and she doesn’t really speak to her anymore. she also talked about how as she was growing up that she would always think about how everyone she loved would be dead one day and it was difficult for her to process. her music career started when she moved to new york where her uncle taught her how to play the guitar!
When this album came out, this album was big, but there were tons of articles written by angry indie music snobs saying this was all a persona. Looking back, it was all exaggerated, but autobiographical. She did lose a boyfriend as heard in Dark Paradise, lived in New York as a lounge singer, sent away to boarding school for being a precocious teen. A lot of people have since gone back and revised their opinion of this album. People at the time just couldn’t take it for what it was. They wanted a clear cut definition. Are you a pop artist like Gaga? In that case, having a persona is no problem. Or were you a starving artist scraping your way into the industry. They couldn’t handle that it was both.
patreon.com/bridgethegapreactions for this, Paradise, There's A Tunnel and many more!

Ahh, looking forward to that one - I think I've only heard a couple of songs from that one

Lovely debut album. Still prefer most of this to her later work myself.
Same

Ooh, good to know! Is there a version of Blue Jeans without the shouting noise in the background?

What about Lana's "Young and Beautiful"? - that's her most definitive song. Also what about "Upon a Dream" from the movie Maleficent?
YAYY!!!
Please review "cola" by her
she lived in NY for years n only moved to LA after born to die's success.

That's very helpful, thank you!
Lana is a poet turned singer
she does a cover of blue velvet on the paradise ep
This is a freaking masterpiece for a debut album… somehow i sorta miss the more uptempo side of her in their records now…
She actually did go to boarding school, she comes from a rich nyc family
