Congrats with new camera. Please, make the comparison in low light condition between ursa 4k and 4.6k - it would be amazing review - because you've got both cameras. We all wana know how big is the difference. Thank YOU! Subscribed!
Is the colour cast anything to do with IR? If not, then I guess a fix in the grade will do, but it might be worth sticking a quality IR filter on and seeing how the results change.
Great video! I am looking to purchase either the 4K or 4.6k for recording live in a large church setting? Which camera do you think would be a better fit? The room can get quite dark during certain points in the service. We will be shooting about 80-130 feet away, so do u have any lens recommendations? Thank you!!
I'd love to see the dynamic range pushed in post at ISO 1600 - if you could do a thorough review of how the sensor holds up at that Iso I'd be forever grateful.
Question... How would you rate the dynamic range of the Ursa 4.6k vs BMPCC6K Pro ? I'm interested in a used 4.6k. my filming style sees tons of uncontrollable highlights.
Nice review short, but detailed. I own the BMPC 4K for over a year now and just love it, I'm still debating the Ursa Mini 4.6K or the Red Raven 4.5K cinema camera, such a hard decision to make !!
+ChrisBeBallin Yeah I shot for 2 years on the BMPC 4K and loved it. I really love the color space of blackmagic. I've stuck with blackmagic because of how simple they are and give you such a great image. I would love to get my hands on a raven to test it out.
+myvideoversion I might just go with the Ursa 4.6K Mini, it has a larger sensor slightly more Resolution than RED Raven, just 1.5 stops less D.R no big deal to me.
+ChrisBeBallin It is a little more cost effective as well. That is one of the reasons I went with blackmagic as well plus I like the color space better than Red of course I haven't shot with the Raven so can't speak to that camera just the company in general
I expected good image quality anyway. However, I am more concerned with reliability. I have been on shoots where I had to use other blackmagic cameras, and I have had plenty of issues - dropped frames, extremely slow menus, crashing cameras that need restart, etc. How is this camera doing in terms of that? Have you had any issues? Also, since it happens to me to shoot a lot of corporates and interviews where sometimes cutting the shots is not practical - how does it handle long takes, has it ever crashed, overheated, or anything like that? And also, in terms of memory - how much memory do you need to have available for a whole shooting day on average at 4k or 4.6k raw? Would be also great if you share some slow-mo stuff so I can compare that to fs7 for example. I am considering buying either the fs7 or the ursa mini, and although I like the ursa mini more in terms of image, I am leaning towards the fs7 because of the reliability and versatility, which come handy when you are sought after for quite different in nature projects.
had some small issues only shooting raw 4.6k lossless.. other than that.. i havent had any issues.. and i also use atoch cfast - ssd converter.. sandisk extreme pro 940gb... i keep it filming, i dont stop recording.. i just run 1 cut and it works great on length too.. the colors are great, the dynamic range is un matchable!
hi ! gooood review! three easy questions, in the sensor area window mode in 4K (4096x2160) and 2K (2048x1080) have the same "crop factor" ? or are different between the two resolutions ? but in 4096x2160 RAW are possible in "Full Sensor area mode" ?? and in 2k and 4k are possible raw 3:1 or 4:1 ? or only RAW ? thanks for the answer
+Jack Lucas Laugeni - Danny Mecozzi From what I can tell right now it is the same crop factor and no you can't do full sensor in 2 or 4k no matter the frame rate but that could be updated in firmware down the road.
i noticed you have the shoulder mount but not the viewfinder. which i thought was cool, with the shoulder mount, can you comfortably see the screen? or is it too far back? Like would you say the view finder isnt necessary then? or was that just how you had it to display it for this video
hey thank you for the great job!! I've got a question: Does every 4.6k camera has got this magenta issue or it's just a bad luck? Is BM going to fix this issue, do they give any comments?
I am wating for my URSA mini 4.6k EF to arrive tomorrow. I heard there was a recent update for the URSA mini 4.6k lately. Did you notice any obvious changes or improvements after the update.? Which brand of EF lens would you recommend based on your experience that match best with the mechanics and optics of the URSA mini .? Any particular lens that proved to have issues with the URSA mini.?? Thanks
I only have one lens that isn't declicked and that is the sigma 18-35 art lens. I haven't had any issues with it. As far as the update I just made a video about it you can check it out here. I will also be releasing some other videos about it shortly. Thanks man. th-cam.com/video/idpI1mu_4sk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the review! Pretty sure they included 4096x2160 because it's Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) standard 4K: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Cinema_Initiatives#2D_image
Definitely some magenta going on like you mentioned. Have you found it an overall cast? A lot of talk about how it gets Magenta only in the corners where it vignettes a tad, which is definitely a hassle no one wants to deal with in post :p. Great review man, saw your one of the 4k, too. Keep 'em up, you're a delight to watch!
+Ben Meredith I have seen the footage with the vignetting and it was mostly in the beta versions. It has been just an overall cast. And thanks for the support and comments.
+Ben Meredith Blackmagic is already working on that issues...the newest firmware fixes the overall magenta cast, but not the uneven casts that many current 4.6K Minis have...Uneven casts semm to be an Hardware problem...
+myvideoversion I think he's referring to a number of reports that some cameras have uneven magenta vignetting, where magenta shows up heavily in the corners or in splotches across the sensor. Not every camera, but enough of them to show there are definitely some faulty cameras shipping.
Now wats the main purpose of this camera? Is it just for high quality video recording for a regular house hold? Or you can actually make movies out of this bad boy? How much does the 4.6k go for? Kinda having difficulty on if I should buy this video camera or get a mirror less Sony A7rii
Hello @myvideoversion Im gonna buy new camera. But im a bit confused. If you gonna buy a new camera which one do you perefer? Sony A7sii or Ursa Mini 4.6 K. and why?
huge difference(budget wise). you need rigs for the ursa to make it work, add to that the expensive Cfast cards and battery solutions. if you have control over your set go with the ursa, but if you're more of a run and gun, then check the Sony fs5 its a better option than both.
Resolve won't let me grade prores. I can only change the mid, highs, shadows, lift, gamma, and all the simple ones. If I shoot raw using full sensor, what resolution would I need to use and how long will it take to fill you one 256gb card?
I wonder if you were one of the "lucky" ones that received a functioning camera? Plz look at the B & H Ursa Mini sales sheet that has "Reviews" on it. I have NEVER, EVER, seen so many ultra BAD (like "don't buy this." 3 successive bad sensors, etc. etc..) reviews. I have only enough $$ for one camera... I can't afford to risk about $6-8k on a total failure... Apparently, you roll the dice if you buy from BM.
+Terry Thomas I bought the very first Blackmagic Production 4K camera and it had a lot of the same type issues with it. I knew going into it that there would be problems. I feel blackmagic always releases their camera in beta. I do think my camera has issues but if there is one thing I love about blackmagic is they have always made it right. Yes their cameras have issues most cameras do but they are very on top of getting firmware updates out and fixing the issues. If you are worried wait six months.
Congrats with new camera. Please, make the comparison in low light condition between ursa 4k and 4.6k - it would be amazing review - because you've got both cameras. We all wana know how big is the difference. Thank YOU! Subscribed!
+musclefactory2010 You got it.
+musclefactory2010 Here is the low light test. Thanks for asking to do this I learned a lot. th-cam.com/video/SY2nEbUv2cE/w-d-xo.html
+myvideoversion whoa!, subbed!
really like your review. Many info also about the rolling shutter. We are about to buy one of this so thanks for your info.
What about the results using Canon kit lenses? Say, the 18-135 lens that comes with the T4i?
The windowed option i imagine is designed for the optional b4 mount which enables older television zoom lenses to be used. It's also there for 120fps.
Great footage. Have you had any FPN issues with this camera? I've seen many videos where Ursa minis have been known to have sensor problems.
Is the colour cast anything to do with IR? If not, then I guess a fix in the grade will do, but it might be worth sticking a quality IR filter on and seeing how the results change.
3:02 there's flickering on the fence in the shadow, is that the camera?
Great video! I am looking to purchase either the 4K or 4.6k for recording live in a large church setting? Which camera do you think would be a better fit? +Joe Castleberry I just got pulled away on a major shoot but will get to it as soon as I can. Love the ideas and comments thanks.

What's the difference between full frame and super 35. I thought full frame was 35mm?

Thanks for the test, great help! Would you mind telling us how long ago you bought the 4.6K UM and where? Best,
I got it back in March from dvestore.com
Is it worth dropping the extra 2 g's for the 4.6k?
Thanks!
4096*2160 is cinema 4K, 3840*2160 is UHD 4k, I guess they just wanted to give you the choice to use full 4k if you wanted, on top of the 4.6k.
The ursa mini has autofocus right?
Hey whats the shotgun mic you are using above?
Rode ntg 3
4096x2160 is cinema or industry standard 4k or "DCI 4k" where as UHD is HD 4k.
heyy can you provide us with that lut you used at the end? Would love to import it in my cam!

I do have the evf. It's doable to do handheld without evf but is not fun. I would say get the evf or external monitor
hey thank you for the great job!! I've got a question: Does every 4.6k camera has got this magenta issue or it's just a bad luck? Is BM going to fix this issue, do they give any comments?
I have contacted them about it it and they have said it will be fixed in the next firmware update
great simple review. thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the reply. What glass did you have on it? Best,
I had the Canon L series 24-70 f2.8
Should I buy the ursa mini or the alexa mini. Which has the best color, sharpness and dynamic range?
If you have the money go with the Alexa Mini.
myvideoversion alright thank you
Very nice video thank u, I just want to know about ur opinion on the red Raven and how does it coma pre to the ursa if possible.
+Walid Hoyek I haven't had the chance to get my hands on a Red Raven yet but I would be very interested to see how they compare.
myvideoversion hope u will for us to see with u how both compare, thank u for replying.
nice video hope someone will do a review between ursa mini 4.6k vs red raven
That would be a good comparison
What ISO are you using for those dynamic range examples?
@myvideoversion please answer this!
Is it possible to use Nikon lenses on this videocamera ?
Yes but you will need an adapter for a canon ef mount to nikon.
I am very curious about the new OS. ...
Me too
What base plate is that on the shoulder mount kit?
+Vj One It's the kessler quick release system. I use it on all my stuff.
Thanks for the review! Pretty sure they included 4096x2160 because it's Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) standard 4K: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Cinema_Initiatives#2D_image
+Hybrid Camera Revolution thanks for sharing.
Liked this just for the adorable jumpy slowmo test @ 2:28
There is a lot of talk about the reliable of the camera, can you tell us if you have any issue. Thanks.
I haven't yet but I'll let you know if I do
Thanks!!!

As an aspiring film maker i now have a dream camera to own, because it's more affordable imo.
Hello @myvideoversion

Nadim Bou Karroum many thanks.
What does "windowed" mean?
+Oliver Cukor It crops the sensor so your field of view is less
can you shoot 1080 not windowed?
+NajamPlays Not in raw but in Prores yes as long as you aren't doing high frame rates.
Resolve won't let me grade prores. I can only change the mid, highs, shadows, lift, gamma, and all the simple ones. If I shoot raw using full sensor, what resolution would I need to use and how long will it take to fill you one 256gb card?
Thank you.
Your colour correcting seems somewhat overzealous but what do I know
your raw 1080 was actually raw 2k, learn the resolutions man haha
HOw much does it cost?
$5,000 for body only you will need to buy batteries and cards and lenses to use it. So in total about 6K - 7K
nice :)
4096 x 2160 is true 4k
