I gosh this is very unusual hookup My congrats to you I did 6 tuna trips this year to Stellwagen bank from Scituate sw corner and southeast corner and no since of tuna Not a single bite Hopefully will do better next year!! Tales up!!!!
@@MyFishingCapeCodAwesome fish! Congrats! I fought one about 2 weeks later off Nauset- 5.5 hours was 100+". Recreational license so I had to release. Subscribed!
Hi Mike! When I caught this fish several years ago I was under the impression I did not need to have a life raft, epirb and survival suits because I was fishing just a couple miles offshore and it was during warm-weather season. I very well may have been completely incorrect in my thinking at the time. Regardless it's the last fish I sold on my little boat, as I now do all my tuna fishing on larger vessels that have all the safety gear. If I decide to tuna fish again on the boat you see in this video, then you can rest assured it will have all the required equipment. Thanks for the comment!
@@MyFishingCapeCod nothing against you and congrats on a nice fish . Just know encountering environmental police or coasty when unloading can really ruin your day

$6 a pound!!! RIP off!!! I pay nearly $50 a pound for some nice bluefin tuna! That is Aku (skipjack tuna) prices!!! Even yellowfin commands a higher price here...
It's so cool to see that same exact winch that my old man used almost 40 years earlier to haul up his giant BFT as a commercial stick/rod & reel fisherman out of Barnstable harbor. I've got dozens of pictures showing groups of people huddled around wearing bell bottoms marveling at the same monsters that seem to never cease to amaze!

Gotta start somewhere right? I've caught about 15 tunas in my life. I also fish for striped bass, albies, tautog, sea bass etc. I'm happy you guys are more experienced tuna professionals than me. Gluck and tight lines 🎣
Hey you caught the bluefin. But ya have to cut the gills to bleed out and get him in asap and ice him down. My buyer takes the core temp. I was talking about the buyer. Keeping it real!
Great footage Ryan. Used to seeing it so easy on wicked tuna..
Love the behind the scenes details!
Thanks a ton! 🙌🏻😎👍🏻🎣🐟
Awesome job landing that bluefin. I can tell by look on your faces you have great passion for fishing.
EXCELLENT video, watched all 34 minutes :P
Awesome! Thanks for tuning-in! 🙌
Great job, thanks for sharing!
No prob Bill. Thanks for watching!
What a team ,nice job.
Thanks Ken! It was a memorable experience
At the point of this video when his friend hoped aboard that became the best thing about the video. The fish is a bonus!
He’s a great friend and I see him often. I’ll tell him about your comment. Thank you!
Its cool to have friends like that , nice video, nice fish.👍
I've been blessed with great friends and family. Glad you enjoyed the vid!
Awesome!!!! Congratulations! !!!
Thanks Glynn, I got lucky!
Very nice work, you were shaking in the beginning and pulled it off
I was pretty shocked at the beginning for sure. Thanks for watching Morty.
She heard of a knife sharpener? Nice job dude!
Thanks man. Those tails are ridiculously tough. An electric saw works best.
Nice team work, two is better than one! What did it measure in length?
Thanks Jim! That fish measured 99 inches
Dam bro you got the patients of a saint. Between the girls in the truck while your selling to the dull knife the buyer had. Nice catch
lol, patience is definitely key when fishing for giant tuna! Thanks for watching Marco

Hopefully will do better next year!!

I'm sure you'll do better next year. Keep at it. I get skunked all the time too when tuna fishing. Tough animal to catch!
Nice catch! Were you in the bay or south of the vineyard? Can you list the gear you were using? Looks like a Penn SW80?
Hey Kevin, I was in the PTOWN/Stellwagen area. The reel is a Penn SW80. More info here myfishingcapecod.com/my-first-giant/ Tight lines my friend 🎣

Nice fish and nice boat! You can keep the fish, i want the boat!!
LOL, yes that little 21 foot Hydra Sport has treated me well!
Is this just for grins, or is this a living?
For me it's a small part of my living. For other guys it's more of a full-time gig.
Now is a Penn senator 116 able to take fish like this? It's a oldy so I have found any specs on it
I think you'd be hard pressed with that reel. I would recommend a Penn 80 International at the minimum
Honestly I think the 6/0 might lose it's drag after that first run.
Awesome vid, nice catch 👍🏼
Where is your life raft and epirb in order to comply with your general category permit ?

How much that it cost?
I received $6/pound for that fish, so about $3,500 total
Buddy God smiled on you that day, only reason you landed that fish.
You sold the tuna right?
That is correct. I received $6/pound, which is the average
They sold more than $20 a pound after you sold $6 a pound ‘what a ripoff

how much this tuna?
That fish weighed 558lbs, and I received $6/pound

mono main line?
I believe the main line on that reel was 200 pound Cortland hollowcore braid

Very true 🎣
how much did you get for it?
$6/pound, which is pretty much the average. The fish had good color but unfortunately very little fat.

That does seem low I was thinking double that 12 or so looked like a nice fish
what you pay at the store vs what fisherman get paid are two different worlds
yeah, he said the fish had very little fat
awesome!

Amazing that fish like this are swimming right here on the Cape.
carry a pumpkin ball hook it to the reel and throw it over pole and all instead of stressing
Thanks Scott but I'm unclear what you mean. Is there an article or video somewhere that shows the technique you are describing? Thanks 👍🏻
