  • @cameronjackson2346

    As a 6’8 junior, post moves are more of understanding angles and knowing defensive stances, there’s not a single stance that can guard every move therefore if you know the angles and can feel where the pressure is put on you then you can score every time

    • @wodandewael3613
      @wodandewael3613 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Verry true, it is all about feeling where your defender is at and then knowing what to do, not as some people think just pure power no brain.

    As a fellow skills and development coach I have to say it was a very nicely well done tutorial. I have one simple yet important critique, we must teach both bigs and guards using post moves to keep the ball a bit higher to avoid having the ball stripped. From the gather or pick up of the ball when goin into the shot, the ball should be immediately raised between chest to head level and on the outside of the defender. It creates a higher percentage shot and makes it easier to draw fouls. Unless you know that you are going into a counter move where you sweep/hard rip the ball through the player should keep the ball high. Onve again good video.

    • @cameronjackson2346
      @cameronjackson2346 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It’s not well done, he should’ve had a defender on him or used examples from games, and could’ve talked about how understanding angles in the post and when to use each move he just gave us options, not actually when or how to use them efficiently

    I have to say as a smaller guy my whole life, maxing out at 5'8. I always worked on post moves to create space and get a shot off. Now that I'm older they have proved to be very effective against younger guys that don't play much defense and just want to jack up deep 3s. I now watch a lot of Melo, livingston, Cassell, Duncan, olojuwaun tapes to learn foot work.

    I think you missed some important details such as... how to use your body as a shield. How to use defenders force against him. It's more like fencing than a ballet.
    It's a good post move tutorial for guards and undersized forwards/centers. For big guys you need to engage the contact, drive to the basket, not away from the basket.
    Ohh, and one more thing. It's always best to master one simple move, and over time add counter moves.

  • @peytoneverage4575
    @peytoneverage4575 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    For the first one, if your taller don’t dribble, just catch and use your pivot foot in a quick motion, dribbling, although adds power, will slow you down and give the defense more time to think of the best way to guard you, just a quick non dribble motion is better.

    One of the main reasons hook shot don't work is players open too much thus losing the stability (enter of gravity) because they end up with a one-hand jump shot. 2:21 is a great illustration of when one opens up too much.

    I am a 5'10 lanky 12 year old center. I use to shoot the 3ball and was good about 50% percent with 7 attempts. Now we got a new coach and He tells me to stay near the post. And I have been using a Dirk Fade and Its been killing

      Start working on the guard skills now trust me I made the mistake thinking I was gonna be a post forever and now I’m only 6’4 which is a guard height

    Great tutorial (just a tip the 3rd move is a little more of a drop step then a post spin) all and all great job

    Hey coach, So I recently had to switch to center on my team when I use to be power forward because My line up has no tall people just shooters and I’m the only real power on post. Is their a big difference Or something I need to worry about? I just thought it would give me bigger and better opportunities. Anyone can respond, thanks

      Just make sure to keep you eyes open for passes from your guards and keep an eye where you threes guy I'd since as center u can draw attention to paint then pass to your thrrenpointer shooter even as small forward i do that or I hakeem shake the post and score

      When you catch a pass down low, be ready to kick it back out to the guy that passed it to you or to the top of the key. Those are going to be your best quick passes. Work on your foot work!! Having quick feet down low is a life saver.

    I was told you never bring the ball down . Keep it chest at the lowest ala the sikma drill score with the ball high. If I have the size advantage in the post, the last thing I’d do is shoot a fadeaway. I’ll take advantage of my size and put you under the court like Zach Randolph.

    the first move, a more advanced version would be, spin while still keeping your dribble, initiate contact (while your defender is unbalanced from your spin), and hook shot.
