That was excellent. I just watched my childhood dream, with a person waaaaay better than I ever was. I wish him big success. I am fortunate enough to be friends with a former big leaguer. I wasn't there when he got called up, but I was there when he hit ten years. That is life/family/history changing stuff. He had no words, he just knew that his family was completely set. Good guy, deserved it.
Update as of 08/01/2022: .271 batting average with 18 homers, 57 RBI, and 55 runs scored in 96 games. OBP is .334 and his slugging percentage is .482. The bad news is that he has injured his right wrist.
I like the idea of filming the enthusiasm of a rookie being called up-baseball should do more such videos to add more of the humanity of these athletes-but the manager (not a Mariners fan so forgive my lack of knowledge as to who he is) seems to be acting the part a bit too much. Maybe next time don’t let anyone know they are being filmed and then see if they are good with the footage being released after it’s over. That whole bit after Julio is told he’s coming up just smacks of playing things up for the camera with the trite cliche comments.
