9:00 I've been purchasing BMW battery for my K every year. After a third one dying one me while I was standing on a red light, I've decided to try Odyssey Extreme. The unreliable battery problem is gone since then. It still works fine for over 5 years now. The next one will be Odyssey for sure.
And thank you for a tip about the moisture - I didn't know about it until now!
I always lusted after one of those K1300 Beemers
Example: Cool weather the steam from the exhaust for the first 10 min. is good showing of moisture being vapored out to exhaust.

I’ve been riding for over 50 years and didn’t know about moisture in the oil and ten mile minimum rides. By luck my rides were always long but I did start up my old shovel and evo during the winter back in the day. Thanks for the lesson! I knew car exhaust systems would rust out from short runs just didn’t connect the dots to oil.

Glad I watched you’re channel I recall you mentioning not to start these up in the winter, so I installed trickle chargers on everything with an engine the three bikes and three cars are all plugged in all the time. Still on my same battery for a 3 year motorcycle.
Great Vlog Mr Smoak and important words of wisdom on short runs and starting your motorcycle engines over without giving them a decent run to burn all the condensation out of the oil. That's what battery tenders are for to keep your battery charged at 100% .
Mine is hooked up on my Sportglide 24/7 and gets put straight back on as soon as I finish my ride.

Hi Shawn, regarding the short running, it is funny to see used bike ads where folks say they are selling their low mileage bike that was started up once a week. Don’t know if you ever have seen these ads or not. Also, I used to live only two miles from work and needed to get a new muffler for my 1983 Toyota Supra which was due to the short running.
Lol, yeah I’ve seen those ads..! Makes me cringe and want to somehow warn potential buyers to RUN!!! 😂
I used to ride my ‘78 Honda XL250s to high school and work from my parents house, that was only 3 miles away. Those bikes had no type on vapor recovery system, so the small single cylinder engine cleared off fine, but the stock exhaust would rust-out in no time! I would install the good ‘ol Super-Trapp mufflers and would wonder why the disks were still dripping wet when I got to school..? Lol

GUILTY! I bought a new Honda Fury in November. During the winter I would start it and let it idle in the garage every few weeks to keep the battery charged.
I hope I didn't hurt it.

Don't know how I missed this one yesterday. I either didn't get a notification, or I accidentally deleted it when I was deleting emails. Glad I noticed it though. I had no idea I was doing harm to my Yammy engine like that. I often take less than 10 mile jaunts on my bike! I'm waiting on a starter relay for it right now though. Haven't ridden it for a week, and the weather is beautiful! Peace and love.

Nice ride today, had to be warm with no jacket, funny the Harley's "Gloved" today. I've followed Your advice about NOT letting the bike run in the garage or shed in the winter without riding it, I didn't start the bike until I was able to go for my first ride. Unfortunately, because of time restraints I was only able to ride about 30 miles but that should be long enough. Thanks for suggestions & recommendations about out motorcycles Thanks for taking Us along for the ride.
Great video I just love my K1300s. Why they don't have self-cancelling indicators is a mystery. I would never buy a "Garage Queen" bike that has only been ridden short stops as your showing of the K1600 shows that oil is a mess.

After seeing the K1300S, I said ti myself, "How could BMW sneak that one past me?" Turns out that I wasn't paying attention. The K1200S and K1300S HP have made me want to break my brand loyalty to Kawasaki. I am looking for a real nice one right now.

When you store your bike for the winter, seal/block off your exhaust and intake, especially in cold/wet environments.

Whew! 10.1 miles each way to downtown Indy. Cut that one close. I typically try to keep the Vision around 2200 rpm on the ride in to warm the engine as much as possible (all year rider). Don't think I have much problem with the 2000 Yama RSD that I ride about 40% of the time.

I have followed your advice too the letter I even have a 250 cc single for short runs air cooled single the GSX750F never ever does less then 10 miles before I will shut him down good advice 👍

I like my old Shovelhead. I get scared at 40 MPH, at 80 MPH i think im going to die haha. Slow and scary means i hopefully live longer.

Hey I am a fan of the Chanel thank you. Wish I can are up to nature like you do. Anyways I have a 2012 k 1600 gt that I have a bad 4 ad 5 gear I believe is the dogs because ot works fine until you put load Anyways I live to get in it I am very mechanical inclined but I am afraid I will hit a wall on the especially tools can you tell me what is that special tool absolutely need to swap the transmission thank you for your help and good luck with the chanel.

I don’t understand what you mean when you say that you will loose money on the K1600 transmission job, do you get so many hours to do it and if it takes you longer you don’t get paid 🤔🤔. It’s clearly a highly technical job that can’t be rushed, so why would you get a time pressure put on you to get the job done, seems pretty unfair. Great tips on oil stuff 👍👍.
Unfortunately, flat rate pay has always been an auto & motorcycle thing... You can triple your pay one day, and half your pay the next. If your any good, you always come out on top, but there's always jobs like this mixed in...

So the K1600 recall had to do with moisture in the trans from not letting the motor run for 10miles? Weekend road warriors strike again! They are just huge garage decorations. 🤣🤪
Can I use the bike in short rides during the week and do longer rides on the weekends? My friends told me to get a scooter but I really don't feel safe riding light motorcycles. I'm looking to get a K1300S as my first motorcycle for highway commute.
Hi what year K1300S would buy? They get a bad reputation on the forums for stalling out when down shifting to stop. I’m looking at a 2013 but I’m afraid their all lemons. Your comments please.

I need(and want) to go test ride a Spyder soon but cant because my country is still in lockdown.
I'm in doubt over a manual six speed vs auto.
Coming off a bike , but due to a bad shoulder cant ride anymore , had a Honda Varadero before this.
I heard people say the clutch on the manual is on the heavy side , is this true?
Also what is this BS about motorcycle riders ignoring the Spyder riders? Not returning waves etc..
Is your dealer backed up with K1600 recalls? I've been getting the run around from my dealer about mine. They wont schedule my bike yet, they just put me on the list and will let me know when they can do the work. Does recall work not pay very well?
The kits are coming really slow from BMW (they are VIN specific), so I can imagine our waiting list to get scheduled-in is quite long as well. Plus, as the job pays about 1/2 the actual time it takes to perform, it's a dealership wide money loser right at the beginning of peak season...
