In this episode of In The Kitchen With Matt I am taking the channel aboard the Carnival Panorama for a week long cruise to the Mexican Riviera. The cruise leaves the Port of Long Beach and the stops are in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Cabo San Lucas. I take you on a tour of the ship, and talk about the amenities, and other things to do, and of course I talk about the food! Is the food on Carnival any good? Watch and see! I even do a little pasta making demonstration which I did in the carnival kitchen.

Really great in-depth review Matt. I have been on 5 Carnival Cruises as an entertainer within a private group, also on sosme higher-cost cruise lines. Carnival remains my favorite because they have such a relaxed vibe. You have made me want to go again!

Thank you!! That is awesome that you were an entertainer. A cooking cruise would be fun! Not sure how it would work though. For example the Carnival Kitchen is only for classes. But if Carnival would let me use their kitchen and teach that would be cool! haha

As someone who used to only do carnival and Disney I always remembered the free ice cream is at the red back thingy but then I thought I figured out a loophole! The next Disney cruise I went on I said “part of the back thing is red!” Then I was told, “that doesn’t work sadly”. 😂

Thank you!! If you ever get the chance do it! I did a 7 day cruise, but there are much shorter cruises as well, if someone just wants to try one out. Like a 3 day, 4 day, etc.

Headed on the same cruise early November. For the $$ in my opinion you can't beat a cruise. Food entertainment place to sleep. Wake up in New locations. Perfect! Well my opinion anyhow.thanks 4 the vid

We have only sailed on Carnival Radiance from Long Beach. We are going on Panorama in October. Super excited! We get 2 days in Cabo.

Sounds like a great time! I never knew there was so much to do on a Carnival Cruise, it's almost like a theme park, and the headphone dance floor club is hilarious! 😂 Matt, do you ever get sea sick or queasy on one of these large ships? I always wondered if some people are affected.
It was such a great time!! So much to do, it is like a giant floating hotel and theme park rolled into one. I personally don't get seasick, but I also too non-drowsy dramamine each day just in case. People do definitely get seasick, however. They have a patch you can put behind your ear that helps, there are little wristbands that go on your wrist that trigger a pressure point that helps with some people, as well.

Thanks and awesome, have so much fun! In Puerto Vallarta I did the Sea Safari which took use horseback riding, to a water fall, snorkeling and then to a private beach. In Mazatlan we did a tour of Mazatlan, which wasn't my favorite. I would do the Mini Speed Boats if I were you, that is the one I originally wanted to do. And in Cabo we just did our own, we didn't do one from the ship. Although there is a Camel Ride that we booked but didn't wind up doing.

Did you do your excursions through carnival or found them on your own?
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed your first cruise! Yep my excursions were booked through carnival. Except for the Cabo one, we just did that on our own as a group. Good times!! Awesome that you booked another one for Jan, I did as well haha.

You are very welcome!! American money works great. I never convert to Pesos. But you could if you wanted to, but again, all the vendors accept US Dollars. Have fun on the cruise!
What’s the name of the activity you did with horses in the video?
It had a long name like "boat ride, horseback ride through town, snorkeling, and private beach" It was in Puerta Vallarta.
So glad you had an amazing experience on your vacation, it looks like you planned everything out well. I am glad you vacation didn't get ruined by any bad weather. So I am guessing you would recommend carnival, I've heard to go with Royal but I have a family so that might be why.
Thank you! Yeah carnival is great with lots of stuff for everyone. I hear other cruise lines are better for people looking for a more relaxed atmosphere and not as many small kids running around, etc. But Carnival is great for the price and what you get. Royal is a bit more expensive. But can't go wrong with either, I think. The one I booked in January is on Royal.

Great review. Booked for December. I’m curious, how long was the car lineup to get in the terminal? We are wondering how much in advance to get in the Uber 😀 so as not to miss our boarding time.
Awesome!! So our boarding time was 1:00pm we left the airbnb which was 10 minutes away from the terminal at around 10:50am. Got there around 11am and waited in the car line probably 30 minutes because of all the traffic. We still actually got on board the ship earlier than 1pm though which was awesome. haha. Once we go into the terminal we just waited for them to call our boarding number which really didn't follow our assigned time. So if you get there early I don't think it is a bad thing. Give yourself an hour or two and you will be fine if not early.

Talk about having to make reservations. Did you have to make any reservations for any of the shows? And besides the upcharge restaurants did you have to make any reservations for those
Nope all the shows were first come first serve, if you showed up 15 minutes early you usually could still get a great seat. And reservations are not required for the upscale up charge restaurants but recommended because the requested dates and times will be honored first. Then the rest is first come first serve. Good question!

Hi, I think maybe you misunderstood me, I did not get the drink package, but would buy virgin drinks occasionally. But there are two different drink packages one that has pretty much just soda and water and the other that has alcohol. There are lots of water stations with filtered water so only get the lower tier if you like to drink soda. @@thebluetarp

Hi Charlie, I think it varies. But they always have 2 formal nights either Sunday or Monday night and then I believe Friday night which is the last night. Here is the main itinerary for the specific cruise I was on www.carnival.com/itinerary/7-day-mexican-riviera-cruise/los-angeles/panorama/7-days/mx7/ Things like the glow parties, may not always be going on.
Make sure to download the carnival app for your phone. Then log in and connect your cruise. It should give you the full hourly itinerary on it.

Ok awesome, I can't remember how early they release the full day-to-day (hourly) schedule of events. Have fun on the cruise! My next one is the second week in January, Eastern Caribbean, trying out a Royal Caribbean Ship this time. @@charliesmith1325
Are the excursions included?
No you have to book the excursions separately if you want to do excursions. They make it easy to do through their app, but still they cost extra. That is how pretty much all cruise ships work.

This month Aug 12 thru 19
We did this same cruise but our room was a bust! We stayed in the Havana rooms aft and we never got to use our beautiful balcony because of all the soot from the smoke stacks would come back there and turn Everything Black and if you touched the railings or stepped out on the balcony your feet would turn black and you would drag it in all over the carpet beside the fact of trying to get the soot of your feet! It ruined a good outfit my wife had We didn't know this at first and when we sat down and got up it was like sitting in wet paint it was all over you. We complained and were told sorry but that's just how it is back there. So we Never got to use our beautiful aft balcony that we paid alot extra for.
Dang!! Sorry to hear that. I did notice one time on the back above the Havana pools in the evening the workers were taking away all of the lounge chairs and they said it was because of the soot. I didn't even think about how much that would suck for the Private Havana suites right below that. I was thinking it would have been cool to get those suites because of the private hot tubs with the great view. Were you able to use those very much?
@inthekitchenwithmatt we used them but every day there were chunks of soot in the pools and in the hot tubs. They would clean the havana back area every day they were constantly out there with mops and buckets mopping the floors. The lounge chairs would get soot on them too but not as much as the cabins above did. It really ruined the cruise because we could not even step outside when we got to another port or the cabin carpet would be black and stink and if you sat on the bed it would get all over the sheets so we just avoided the balcony. They cleaned our balcony 2 X for the whole cruise but if we were at sea it came right back within minutes.
Darn!! Especially for how much extra those rooms are for that private area. I would have been pretty mad too.@@bigguy1403

How much should a cruise like this cost?
I spent a little less than $1400 for just the cruise itself for my own interior stateroom. But that doesn't include the insurance I got, travel to Long Beach, the excursions, the gratuity paid at the end of the cruise which is around $120, etc. When all was said an done if you include all the costs I probably spent $2200 or a little more for everything that I did. But if you want to explore on your own and don't do the excursions at port that will cut costs, if you share a stateroom with another person, that will drastically reduce the cost.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I have been looking at some cruises on vacations to go. I am finding some 6 and 7 day cruises for around $400-$500 per person. (plus gratuities and port fees.) this website seems to be a legit website. I have called them a couple times to ask questions. My wife and I and two kids have never been on a cruise.
