After watching your video, I tossed all the Shared Nodes on a project I'm working on, and went with Film Look Creator as you described. The project was filmed outside - starting with overcast and light rain then clearing to bright sun. I had not yet finished adding Shared Nodes to all clips but was able to complete entire project in less time using your method. Thanks!
That‘s so cool! That’s exactly the kind of thing I wanted to achieve with this video. I did the same thing and went over old projects and found I could get the same or even better looks like this than with lots of nodes!

Amazing!! I always thought of the Film Creator effect as more of a finishing look similar to Red Giant Looks and others. So cool that you can do a full on simple grade with it. Great tip!!
In 2013 i edited my CinemaDNG image sequences in Lightroom with batch exports. Resulting in crazy neat color grades. Resolve gives the editing life so much more comfort these days.

I cant thank you enough, this is a game changer, I love Davinci but sometimes doing a Node Tree is excessive as I am not a colorist, but having this mimic editing photos will def help expedite editing in color grading. Really cool stuff man! If you have any tips for Audio that would be cool too

You sure can! Just add a node AFTER the film look creator with the Phantom LUT and leave the color space overrides in the film look creator blank (use timeline).
is there a way to mask and track while subtracting the background from the mask? i want to brighten faces a bit in my clips and add warmth and tint to the background while keeping my subject almost neutral
yes absolutely you can add and track masks. but for faces, specifically skin tones it might be better to use the qualifier. search for videos explaining layer nodes. I recommend checking out casey faris, he has a very good vid!
In DaVinci Resolve, the FilmConvert plugin appears in the Color Page under the FX section, and you can see the exposure curve directly in the preview while editing. :)
@@pierogiannist I think for me the biggest issue are the film looks inside the FLC. I just don't really like them and they can fall apart pretty easy. But I do like the simple interface and workflow and some of its features such as split toning etc. It seems to work nicely as color correction tool before my own film look. Unfortunately I can't really control it with my BMD micro panel.
Go for it! Yes, this works with a LUT in the node after. Just make sure you set it up correctly. Some LUTs expect Rec709 and those you can just add. But some LUTs (like the pre-installed Film Looks like Kodak2328 etc) expect Cineon Film Log. So if you want to use those, make sure to select output gamma "Cineon Film Log" in the film look creator.
You can also just CMD+C and CMD+V the grade (or CTRL+C and CTRL+V on windows). In the Clip view on the color page, just click on the clip that you've graded and copy, then paste on the new clip. Or you can select multiple clips that you have not graded yet with shift + click, then right click on the clip you have graded and click "apply grade".
Awesome video! Genuine question: what if you want to add power windows to isolate and make more granular edits on certain areas of the picture? Would you add a node before or after?
Great question! The Film Look Creator (FLC) is non-destructive so I would assume it won't make a huge difference. But I personally add a Power Window before the FLC. On the other hand, a LUT would be destructive, as it applies fixed changes to your image with less flexibility for adjustments afterward. So when using a LUT definitely put the power window before.

Buuuut… the Film Look Creator tools use different math with more artistic intent imbued than the primaries, log, HDR, curves etc palettes because they have a specific use in mind. This isn’t a simple 1:1 UI solve, you’re getting different results using a film emulation plugin. The fact that you never leave the same OFX inspector window makes it “like Lightroom” I guess? 🤷🏻♂️
Totally agree! I don’t see it as a replacement for all the tools in Resolve-it’s a simpler but still high-quality approach. For example, I compared adjusting exposure with the HDR wheels mapped to my camera’s gamma and color space versus the exposure slider in the Film Look Creator, and the result was the same. It seems the film look creators CST accounts for the camera’s color space and gamma. Anyways, thanks for watching my video and sharing your thoughts!

Unless I forgot to mention a specific one? ould include a quick note or pinned comment to clarify: What I didn‘t mention: Rec.709-A is a Mac-specific color space designed to correct gamma shifts. On Windows, it‘s probably best to use Rec.709 (Scene) and Gama 2.2 or 2.4 depending on what your monitor is set so!

thanks! I would probably just grab a still with right click on the image and then from the stills gallery right click and export as jpeg!

It's great for your base grade, it's only the first node so you can always add secondary nodes for refinement.

Shift-f gives me full screen but I lose the Film Look Creator panel as well. Using windows is this why?
weird, should be the same on windows. You can also enter the fullscreen mode under "workspace" --> "viewer mode" --> "full page viewer“.
