This is the best grouping of Prismacolor pencils I've ever seen. Bravo! These were the pencil of choice in most college art and fashion courses. I still have my set from 2000 before they moved to Mexico and they turned to crap!

Hi Claire - I just purchased the 120 Polychromos set and found your video in a "Polychromos color family" search. I've been struggling to find where many of the colors fit using the color wheel system. As you said in your video, some tones just don't seem to fit anywhere, or one or two seem to be in a category of their own. What a gift it is to hear this articulated! I've also been somewhat befuddled that the colored pencil manufacturers don't think in terms of these types of categories and with the progressive gradients you've created. Thank you so much for your work. Equally, for sharing your thought process, which I'll now be able to take into other pencil sets. Also, for your incredible generosity in sharing this with us.
Out of all the things I've downloaded from various sites and Etsy, this is one of tools I use most often. I've searched all over for highlight and shade blends suggestions but your swatch chart makes it easy in two pages. Thank you for all the hard work.

I’m no expert, but I find the best way to get a blend with the “odd” Polys is just more or fewer layers (usually fewer since there aren’t many light colors). Thanks again!!

I have the whole set and I am stumped on how to put them together and I need to make a chart inside my pencil holder book. Maybe I can add swatched colors to the end of my pencils. Coloured pencils are a new medium for me, and I spent many hours swatching and trying to put them in one continuous chromatic order. It’s easy to do with paint, but I was really struggling to find the right placement for so many of these pencils. Your method of matching by undertones is so helpful, and the colour families suddenly make sense! Thank you for sharing your expert eye! 💐
I am in the process of making these into swatch strips, whereby the swatches are at the very edge of the paper and, if needed, can be put next to another colour for comparison. Super, super useful - thank you for this, Claire.

Brilliant work Claire, but with one omission that I can see: Caput Mortuum Violet. I love this colour it is so good for introducing warm shadow tones. I'll enjoy myself with this comparison chart too. I will have to have a go with the Derwent colours on my own.
