The MK18 has a lot of advantages. Compact, lightweight (until all the goodies get put on, LOL) and if properly gassed very reliable. Cons are loss of terminal ballistics are longer ranges (which is toss up since it was meant for in close work), more muzzle blast and noise, right on the edge of reliability and can be ammo sensitive. A lot of vets have gone the SBR/AR pistol MK18 type for a reason. Overall good weapon for its intended purpose, in close and easily maneuverable. I will say though that the 11.3/11.5 barrel is a better pick for reliability reasons. Not a huge fan of the MK18 quad rail and prefer the MCMR series from BCM, which is what I chose when I built my idea of a MK18 pistol. BTW, really enjoy the style of your videos and plain talk. Top notch IMO.

@TzUp yeah so to purchase a nfa item you have to fill out a form 4. For that the ATF will need $200 bucks, 3 passport photos, and 2 fingerprint cards. The dealer that your buying the NFA item from should be able to help you. And yes the serial number is pretty much registered to me. If I wanted to sell it I would have to file a form 3 to transfer it back to a dealer and then let’s say you wanted to buy it, you would have to fill out a form 4 and purchase it from the dealer. I can’t directly sell it. Make sense?
Awesome DD rig. Really happy with my pistol build. Std aero lower, gibbz mg4 side charging upper, 7.5” cold hammer forged barrel, law tac folder, SBA3 brace, geissele sd-c 2stage trigger, v7 hyper light handguard and some other goodies. Shoots great, and quite a compact setup, especially with the folding adapter. Wasn’t a cheap build, not by a long shot, but well worth it.
I feel you on those skinny rails nowadays.. that’s why I always buy the quad rail type and put larue clips or magpul handguard clips on them. Makes the weapon heavier but it gives that oldschool military m4 look
I run Ryker grip on all my rifles, especially those that i run suppressed. It helps a ton on a nose heavy rig. As well as keeping your hand off a hot rail. 🤜💥🤛

If you ask me about the ideal hat-trick for the full-scale assault mission, I would pick Mk17 SCAR-H for the tactical purpose, Mk18 MOD 0 for the close quarters and Glock 19 Gen 5 for the support.
I almost bought the Daniel Defense assembled upper, but I ended up buying the DD barrel and RIS II rail and put them on a Colt upper with a Surefire flash hider. Cost was similar to buying the assembled upper on sale. Right now I'm using a Colt 4-position extension for the brace.

In every one of these “pistol” vids I’ve watched (not just from CN), they’re being fired from the shoulder like rifles. In this vid, he actually refers to this pistol as a “SBR”. Now the ATF is after my honey badger pistol, which is probably just the gateway to a full on attack on pistol braces across the board. I’m certainly not saying it’s the fault of these TH-cam content creators, but this kind of complacency can’t help us keep these things off the NFA, which definitely needs to be repealed. If it’s a pistol, call it a pistol, and use it like a pistol on these videos. If you want to talk SBR, then get an SBR and shoot the video with that. If we don’t draw the line, they’ll keep trying to draw it for us.
I love Garand Thumb , I learned from him that throwing a suppressor on a gun with a short barrel will make the bullets more effective , you'd be getting the most velocity out of it. Longer barrels are better when it comes to bullet velocity but that MK 18 is a beautiful gun , for me it comes to knowing what the gun can do , and not pushing it past that or you'll start to being unhappy with it. Now you said you were aiming at 300 ft for one or two of your shots. Were you hitting the target? I could be wrong but I believe Garand Thumb did say with shorter barrel's 250ft is probably max , after that you'd start seeing bullet drop. I'm just on a journey to learn the most I can to make the best judgment for my money and what I pick , if you could add to that or correct me , that would be great.

If I’m subsonic, I’m practicing militia type shit so wouldn’t I be close? Is .45 acp ballistics not good enough? Does it also suck that it’s super quiet with 45 ballistics? It’s a .30 cal man. It’s vastly superior for 110+lb game... that includes humans in combat as all breathing creatures are comprised of meat, flesh and bone. Now, I’ve done an OCD, post-it notes all over the wall, detailed study of all of this in just the very recent past and I’d love to continue trying to help you understand the purpose of the ar platform and versatility and lethality of the 300 aac/whisper round over 5.56 but I’m just so burnt out on it after my recent build. If you’d like to look at it more, there’re plenty of forums and TH-cam videos comparing it (7.62X35)and it’s close match the 7.62X39 AK round in combat/self defense you’d need it for. I’m not your daddy. Do your thing big dog.
Juice206 no. 300 is better 9” under and 5.56 needs 12.5 to be reliable without an adjustable gas block suppressed and unsuppressed. All of these lengths in both calibers function fantastically to a great degree but will experience occasional hiccups if not optimally setup. 300 is a bigger bullet that doesn’t require as much powder because you don’t need to shoot anything at 500 or 600 yards in cqb or hunting. If you need to shoot that far, use a 308. Couple the fact that my 300 is a pistol, it’s on me at all times in my vehicle and much more firepower than a 5.56 pistol in someone’s car. Short for short 300 blackout. Long for long .308/.30-06. Quit with this 223 shit and leave that for Uncle Sam and training the little ones. The 5.56 is utilized to arm the lowest common denominator. The ability to choose where I punch holes is paramount. Sure the suppression viability is great but honestly, I don’t even have one yet some I’m running these hot fat ass that hit like all rounds. It breaks up rock and cinderblock and it’s incredibly controllable. I’ve been to the mountain top bros. .30 caliber, big tits and V8 engines 4 life.
Nick R it hits LIKE a 45 AT 200. I don’t understand what you aren’t getting. Bullets slow down. For this to punch out that far and maintain a heavy hit is great in my opinion and that’s when suppressed. It’s far greater unsuppressed.
I have a DD Mk18 and if I had to only have one AR style rifle it would be the DD Mk18. I have mine on a Form 1 waiting approval. It shoots everything I give it and has plenty of accuracy. Great vid!!!
I feel like a 7.62x39/.300BLK pistol/brace combo makes more sense defensively... That said, this is probably hella fun to shoot and of course would still be lethal against a bad guy!

Soooooo since we're getting technical with all the technically tactical terms, would that honey of a firearm be termed a rifle caliber pistol, rcp for short? Technically speaking of course.
I found this available at my local gun store today, got super excited and was ready to buy it on the spot, only to find out that because it's an official SBR, it requires a tax stamp of $200 (which I was willing to pay to have this gun) and a minimum 6-12 month waiting period. This would mean I'd pay for the gun ($1,700ish) + $200 tax stamp, then leave the gun at the gun store for months until the tax stamp comes back. I was bummed. I didn't want to cough up $200 only to be told that Biden is changing things up 5 days from now.
I know this is a year old comment, but Daniel Defense makes a MK18 pistol (with the brace) and a MK18 SBR with a rifle stock. Both are available, but you have to make sure your dealer has the pistol instead of the SBR.

If you’d like to look at it more, there’re plenty of forums and TH-cam videos comparing it (7.62X35)and it’s close match the 7.62X39 AK round in combat/self defense you’d need it for. Juice206 no. 300 is better 9” under and 5.56 needs 12.5 to be reliable without an adjustable gas block suppressed and unsuppressed. All of these lengths in both calibers function fantastically to a great degree but will experience occasional hiccups if not optimally setup. 300 is a bigger bullet that doesn’t require as much powder because you don’t need to shoot anything at 500 or 600 yards in cqb or hunting. If you need to shoot that far, use a 308. Couple the fact that my 300 is a pistol, it’s on me at all times in my vehicle and much more firepower than a 5.56 pistol in someone’s car. Short for short 300 blackout. Long for long .308/.30-06. Quit with this 223 shit and leave that for Uncle Sam and training the little ones. The 5.56 is utilized to arm the lowest common denominator. The ability to choose where I punch holes is paramount. Sure the suppression viability is great but honestly, I don’t even have one yet some I’m running these hot fat ass that hit like all rounds. It breaks up rock and cinderblock and it’s incredibly controllable. I’ve been to the mountain top bros. .30 caliber, big tits and V8 engines 4 life.
Nick R it hits LIKE a 45 AT 200. I don’t understand what you aren’t getting. Bullets slow down. For this to punch out that far and maintain a heavy hit is great in my opinion and that’s when suppressed. It’s far greater unsuppressed.

I have a DD Mk18 and if I had to only have one AR style rifle it would be the DD Mk18. I have mine on a Form 1 waiting approval. It shoots everything I give it and has plenty of accuracy. Great vid!!!

I have a DDMK18 SBR. I love it. It's solid. Gun is a beast. Put the raptor on it. I don't know about all that laser crap on the front of his, looks cool but I don't use that.

Colion, the charging handle is not the reason for less smoke back, maybe the can. ...your outside and wind is blowing across your bow. I love your videos, and follower, the MK18 is great but if this video was inside...Mr Smokey Bear would be calling. Thats my biggest concern with the shorter barrels or even longer, I have a Colt AR w/16'" and after 10 repet trigger pulls (this is inside range) , I'm gagging. I'm looking for something that allows me to finish the 20/30 rounds mag without needing ventilator. I am big fan of Daniel Defense...great quality

Had a choice between the MK18 pistol and the Maxim Defense Pdx, definitely will pick this up.
I found this available at my local gun store today, got super excited and was ready to buy it on the spot, only to find out that because it's an official SBR, it requires a tax stamp of $200 (which I was willing to pay to have this gun) and a minimum 6-12 month waiting period. This would mean I'd pay for the gun ($1,700ish) + $200 tax stamp, then leave the gun at the gun store for months until the tax stamp comes back. I was bummed. I didn't want to cough up $200 only to be told that Biden is changing things up 5 days from now.

I know this is a year old comment, but Daniel Defense makes a MK18 pistol (with the brace) and a MK18 SBR with a rifle stock. Both are available, but you have to make sure your dealer has the pistol instead of the SBR.
