- At 6'7 with the ability to defend in multiple spots, make plays for others and the potential to be a downhill force, Anthony Black is a potential lottery pick. While he's got some real questions to answer as a shooter & self creator, previous successes, his feel & the well rounded nature of his game make him a prospect that's hard not to like.

His development will be interesting to see because obviously he reminds everyone of Giddy, and he worked out great, but there’s still differences between their games that may lead to different roles. Giddey the more natural point guard passer/playmaker but Black the way better defender
Too early to say giddey has worked out great. He has to be pretty good to live up to the 6th pick, and he still has difficulties with efficiency and defense.
@@jojoprocess2820agree. His weaknesses are clear
@@jojoprocess2820 it’s too early to call Giddey a future all-star. It is just the right time to say he worked out as a 6th pick. What he did at 20 (or shall I say still doing since he won’t turn 21 until mid October) is terrific. And his shooting numbers are better than you (most likely) think they are: 48/33/73. You’d love to see that 3 point percentage continue to improve, but those are fine numbers for a PG.
@@JosePereira-ly5fb and diminishing. 3 point shooting for example:
Pre-all star 2021-22: 26.7%
Post-all star 2021-22: injury
Pre-all star 2022-2023: 31.6%
Post all-star: 2022-2023: 34.2%
Plus skill yet? No. Rapidly and consistently improving? Yes.
Giddey is bigger and will always probably be a better rebounder. But Black’s defense probably evens that out long term. Interesting, Black even identified Giddey as the guy he models his game after.
Fortunately for Black the teams that could use him the most will be picking near the top of the draft. Both Washington and Utah would be great landing spots with a lot of shooting and a need for facilitating and a strong, point of attack lead guard.
Wizards
Wizards do not have shooting lol we're consistently one of the worst teams in the league in both attempts and makes
@@FabulousResults hopefully we can trade for another pick
@@FabulousResults
A lot of that is because they don’t have someone who can consistently put pressure on the rim to collapse the defense and create open looks.
See he went to the magic Big Bro. They got alot of size. Especially if the start him and Franz as their 1 and 2
I think he compares more favorably to a blend of Dyson Daniels and pre-injury Shaun Livingston, like Dyson he could absolutely drop in as a wing in most rotations playing that unselfish-connective defensive role while his shooting comes along, but like a young Livingston he's more confident and fluid in his handle and playmaking ability than Dyson but at the same time Livingston always had confidence in his ability to score in the mid-range. Another reasonable comparison to me is Steve Smith as they have a similar blend of defense and craftiness but obviously Steve Smith's shooting stroke was very very pure.
The comps I keep hearing is a better Dyson Daniels it a worse Josh Giddey.
I’m never not going to like a young big who truly works as a point guard!
man i love your videos, always a solid breakdown. thank you for making the offseason more interesting 👍
Such a different player than Amen but with the high defensive floor and decent shooting form (71% on FTs and overall eye test) I think I'd feel better picking him as the second guard after Scoot.
That is an insane take. Amen is an elite ball handler and finisher with freakish athleticsm. So sick of people disrespecting him.
@@jamesbassil3008 I think Amen has a crazy high ceiling but a pretty low floor. If I'm a team like the Spurs, Rockets, or Magic I would feel more comfortable with a great defender/connective passer than a freak athlete who has real questions about his shot.
Amen could be the best player in this draft but could also be a liability on the offensive end in any system where he is not the primary initiator.
@@claudioclini5380 amen is an elite defender and Anthony black has real questions ab his shots too so idk how you can make that take
@@jamesbassil3008 Amen is an elite athlete but not an elite defender. He could be a lot better but he hasn't shown it yet. His PnR navigation on defense leaves a lot to be desired and as a help defender he too often looks lost. There's reason to be optimistic about his defense but it's solely based on his athleticism.
Their shooting struggles cannot be compared imo. Amen has real issues with his form. It almost looks like a shotput from the chest at times. Black has a much smoother motion. If you're having to work with a player to improve their outside shooting, I'd bet that the guy with better starting mechanics will be more likely to get to a respectable level of proficiency to consistently punish guys who go under screens.
Plus, for a guy who relies on paint touches, Amen is a surprisingly bad ft shooter and doesn't get to the line that frequently. 65% on 4 attempts per game. Black shoots 71% on 5 attempts.
Combine all this with the fact that Amen played weaker competition and is a year older than Black, I could see an argument for taking Black higher. I can recognize that this is a hot take tho. Still think Amen has the second highest ceiling in the class
@@jamesbassil3008 amen played very weak comp and hes not an elite defender, and black has shown more upside as a shooter
Hopefully Markelle will teach him his famous pull up middy that he makes a living off of
I think you should do a video on Derrick lively the second best center behind wemby
I wouldn’t say that and every center behind Victor aren’t that good
Lively is a 7’1 big that can stay with guards and can really anchor a defense.
Lively would be a very scary late round pickup for teams like the Heat, Warriors, Lakers, or Celtics… or even Bucks.
League is leaning towards defensive versatility. He’s exactly that with elite rim protection upside.
Also… If I’m the thunder I heavily consider taking him if jarace walker or the other rim protecting PF isn’t available.
Also he’s a good passer too
Mavs should take a hard look at Lively even at #10. Or trade down to get him later and another asset.
@@iamchaunceman Yeah Lively is legit.
Like this kid's game.
In such a deep draft… whoever gets him is lucky
I think he’ll be a borderline AllStar
Same.. Even to the point that if I was the Pistons Even with Cade & Ivey I think I'd still draft him struggling jumper in All
He is not borderline guy , he will be an all-star player.
Manifesting Black to Orlando at #6 🤘🏽
Wow
Damn that’s crazy lol 😂
Very good guess. I wasn't happy when they 1st announced the pick, but mostly because it wasn't what I was expecting.
The Magic were in a weird spot though. They needed shooting, but after Brandon Miller, all of the "shooters" would have been major reaches at pick 6.
After Ausar got picked, I guessed the magic would pick Cam Whitmore. Apparently, it's a good thing that they didn't...because he fell like a rock, so there's gotta be something about him that turned off most teams.
Considering all that, AB is a good pick. But, now they're back to having a huge log jam at PG, and still don't have a true, young, dynamic SG....just Fultz, and 2 combo guards in Suggs and Cole Anthony.
YOU SHOULD PLAY LOTTO Cus you just won big!
He would be perfect for the Wizards
Yes
I can see him landing in Orlando
You called it 👀
@@jamesbassil3008as a magic fan I'm 2 for 2 in these last 2 drafts everyone said I was crazy until we drafted paolo
@@tonycurtin279 I’m a magic fan too, I like this anthony black kid a lot
@@jamesbassil3008 everyone hating on that jett Howard pick has probably never seen him play the game that kid can shoot
a rockets fan i would be happy with ab if we fall in the draft
Best of luck AB! We love you bro! 🐗
Wizards at 7-9 range should take him
I hope the Wizards will be able to land him they badly need a floor general
He reminds me of ja morant
Very similar to Jalen Williams on offense. Jalen is mature so don't kill me for the comp.
Thanks goat! 🔥
Welcome to Orlando!!!
@hoopintellect ...Bro, you're good at what you do! keep it up...I feel like you're starting to make a name for yourself...who knows...you might end up like Mike Schmitz (Trail Blazers)
Well Orlando we will see how this goes
After dwelling on it, it makes a lot more sense. We didn’t have another half-court operator on the team other than Fultz (5-20 w/o him), and his ceiling is contingent on his shot, which Orlando has been doing pretty well in developing players’ jumpshots.
Spurs reportedly trying to trade up for him to pair with Wemby, bufkin being a back up option. I’ll say if Black manages to get picked up by spurs to play with Wemby San Antonio instantly has a monster team that’s super young… Black / Devin / Keldon / Sochan / Wemby is wild with Zach Collins/ Tre Jones/ Maliki / Doug Mcbuckets / Mamu coming off the bench that’s a really nice team
spurs would need to add a shooter or two, but yeah, very promising young group especially if they get black
@@ryanbresler1674 true I’m hoping Mal and Devo and Wemby kept improving on their shooting, adding black who’s 6’7 would make them a crazy defensive team. Having your PG being 6’7 and your big man being 7’4 sounds like hell for the other team 💀
The Magic need this guy
You saw the future.
i was high on him but relooking at him hes just going through everyone like a tank
Cant wait to see him hopefully with Luka
Definitely can improve offensively but to stay on the floor he will have to score especially shoot at a high clip
One of them hard nosed 2 guards. If he can be a decent spot up shooter he can be a great fit for the Magic.
I won’t be mad at this pick at #6… last time we had a 6’7 point guard we went to the Finals!
Doncic and Black at the Jazz, awesome.
Welcome to the magic
Wizards y’all pg heavy already
Chicago needs him for Lonzo Ball insurance
Chicago dont have pick ^^
@@ferjouquentin6275 :(
Would Kobe Brown be among your top 5 best shooters in this draft class?
Wizards bound
someone tell me who is the shaedon sharpe/jalen green of the 2024 draft
dis the randomist question i ever heard
What does this even mean, those are very different players
@@JayX7 a player who a similar comp/play style/attributes, idk how that’s random
@@moonbar_ very similar players you clearly don’t know hoops
@@jameshoops10 nah they use their bounce really differently, green has a much better handle, shaedon has much better shot selection, shaedon is a good shot blocker for the wing already, Jalen doesn't offer a ton on defense, shaedon is elite at timing his cuts to the rim, jalen still needs to work on what he does off the ball. I could go on. I guess they're similar in that they are both really athletic, really young, and took a non-traditional route to the nba
Future Rocket. We need a guard can pass and defense.
You draft him top 5?
Kinda reminds me of a little bigger Derrick white
Prediction: Spurs trade Keldon Johnson + something else to get Anthony Black.
Spurs need a pg and I would love to see Black grow alongside Wemby!
probably spurs prefer to trade D Vassell. his contract extension is coming, it should be more expensive than KJ's and the team has Malaki Branham to replace him as shooting guard
And the move can also be done by Carson Wallace
Rockets fan, want him at 4 if scoot is gone
need him or cason wallace on the Pels
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COMBINE MARKELLE FULTZ AND JALEN SUGGS IN THE SAME BODY??? THIS KID! Goo Magic!
Josh Giddey type...he needs to go to the Wizards
Ja morant athleticism
🔥🔥🔥
I think he'd be a good pick up for the Jazz
Wizards
Lonzo?
I see him very similar to Lonzo. Pushes tempo, strong defender, weak jumper
once you go (anthony) Black, you never go back!
🔥
Future raptor
Ok Orlando
seems like a low ceiling, high floor player who will scrap at both ends.
OKC gets him
Wizards or Jazz
Welcome to Dallas Mavs!
Reminds me of rondo
Lack of a shot or mid range game makes me low on him
Always space for improvement, his iq makes him a elite prospect. Something like that is unteachable.
I see a lot of Deaaron Fox in him just a little taller.
he looks exactly like a bust pick for the wizards, they specialize in taking guys like this
Its true brow 😂
Johnny Danis was one of the most likely picks to be at least a decent role player and was the lottery's biggest flop so far.
Killian Hayes 2.0
Reminds me of Jimmy Butler
I just dont really see it. His self creation is so pitiful, and his handle isn't that good either. Top that off with a very bad and unnatural jumpshot and I have a hard time placing him even in the late lottery.
Exactly what they said about Giddey.
Dude chill hes still a teenager! time my little grasshopper!
Hahahaha. Look like Lonzo!
Elfrid Payton Jr
Don't do Elfrid like that man. Dude was actually nice.
Trade Beal to a terrible team.
Black
Kispert
Avdija
Kuz
Porzingas
He reminds me of Ja morant
3.9 assists? Playmaker? Idgi 😅
I have 0 faith in this guy becoming a all star
He’s a below average athlete and he can’t shoot sounds like a nightmare to me wouldn’t take him too 10 let alone to 5-7 idc how great of a defender he is
I don't see the talent either
