Stephon Castle Scouting Report | 2024 NBA Draft Breakdowns

- Stephon Castle was a key piece in UConn's 2nd of 2 straight national titles as a freshman. He's one of the best point of attack defenders in the class, has good size and is a solid playmaker. He has questions to answer in the level of shooter he is and his ability to create, given the limited role he played for the Huskies but has the pieces to at least contribute.

Can we get a mock draft? You're the best NBA Draft TH-cam channel, ur so thorough
Damn dude has amazing defense I wouldn’t be surprised if the Spurs go after him because they love guys like this.
if he falls yeah, the hornets might get him i think if not they tricking themselves...again
That's exactly what I'm thinking, been a Spurs fan for over 20 years. Since Wright started drafting he's looked for players at this size and with this skillset. They have publicly stated small guards are not priorities and especially if they project as a negative on defense (sorry Dillingham).
I'd prefer Castle at 4 and either Matas, Holland or Wliams at 8.
Spurs would be passing on a dynamic scorer. Dillingham gives me Kyrie vibes. I just don't see another wing being able to crack our rotation. Especially when you have money to get you a proven 3 and D NBA player. Elite PG are so hard to come by these days, and most teams aren't going to let their top PG go for cheap. Not drafting Dillingham would be a huge mistake. Spurs have their wing players. They need a starting PG like Kyrie to play with Wemby, and he's the closest thing to it. People just don't get that Wemby is Jokic, Porzingis, and Durant rolled into one guy. He can do it all. With his abilities, he allows the team to make moves we are not used to seeing as Spurs fans. Just imagine if Parker came into the league with a killer jumper and 3 pointer. That's who this kid is.
@justinscarborough6428 I don't see how exactly Castle would fit into Charlotte's plan, they already have a wing and guard tandem with Ball and Miller, best thing for charlotte to do is get a good big man to pair with them, Donovan Clingan makes sense of he's still there. Castle although listed as a pg will really translate to a wing in the NBA, going wing with Miller on the team doesn't make sense.
@@spursgoat84 You spittin facts
Need him on my Hornets next to Melo and Miller. Fits like a glove
He'd be a perfect fit. I'm hoping for him if available, otherwise Ron Holland
@@attacksalad2996nah bro holland a blazer you can get castle tho
Agreed - gotta be him or Holland
@@attacksalad2996 right on the money. I’d be extremely happy with either one
Over Risacher ?
Hard not to love this guy. He’s going to be such a good pro, especially if that jumpshot becomes respectable
Great analysis as always
I'd love to see a scouting report of Tyler Kolek , this is my favorite scouting channel, I don't get to watch much college ball and definitely overseas, so I love having this channel to gain knowledge of these draft prospects thank you
His stats are so misleading. He came into a loaded defending national champ and no only won a starting spot, became a key player in the tourney run. He's definitely in consideration up to the top 5. If he turns into the best player in this class it would not surprise me but he's still somewhat of a projection on offense.
As a Rockets fan I like Castle as a prospect but I think already enough 'if his shot improves' prospects in our team. Love his defence though. He's probably better suited on a team like Spurs or literally any other team picking in the top 6.
The way he fights over stagger screens to defend Devin Carter and purdue’s senior guard was very impressive. Loved watching him play live this season his main knock I saw was he can logjam spacing offensively since he’s a guard who plays inside the perimeter often. As a hornets fan I wanted him even if we landed pick 2 before that horrid lottery.
I like how he dribbles really low, tenacity in defense & athleticism, like a young kawhi / jimmy b
Apparently he won a combine 3 point shooting contest. The clip I saw had decent form, not the quickest release-- but he only needs to keep the defense honest. Can he play point in the NBA? If you buy the shooting improvements , he might be picked 2nd by the Wiz.
Extremely fit with the Spurs at pick #8. Future point guard
Spurs 4
Look on how his hands are always up on defense. Those are the basics that a coach would love.
Where’s the instrumentals from??
I think with his playmaking and defense he could be a great wing for the blazers. Jumper look solid just gotta be more consistent
Spurs at 4
Wizards at 2
This may sound strange but I kinda absolutely love him for the spurs at 8
with you on that but I doubt he'll fall to 8
Wizards at 2
I’d take him at 4 he probably won’t be there at 8
I'm taking him at 2 for my Wizards and not looking back
Lmao
😂😂😂
I would love him in Portland
We needs cartlon
Who is cartlon?
@@lakeshoresubtleties Carrington
Please do Jaylen Wells 🙏
Is jrue holidays a good comp or am I way off on the comparison.
nah i see that
A wing version of Jrue sure. Not sure he's really going to be playing point guard and running an offense like Jrue has
I see more of josh hart without the rebounding tenacity as his comp. What do you think?
Yeah. Hart, Jrue, Smart, Suggs -- really any of the guys who fight through screens, are additive passers, have questionable jumpshots, and making winning plays.
Plus he's big/strong enough to guard wings.
Spurs pg of the future
More of a 2 really
@@JJ-gl9mn that’s the beauty of the modern nba versatility, all the top guards in the league right now are combo guards and all the best wings score like 2s but with the size of a prototypical 4 man
Yall taking Topic sadly
@@itmejac6945 nah the wizards gone take that bust for us
@@itmejac6945 I like topic but pass first with limited creation pgs aren’t the wave and never have been the formula on a title team, I like him more so in a TJ McConnell 6th man role then like he’s gonna be an top tier pg in the league
Really like his game if you can look past the poor shooting. Reminds me of Scottie Barnes-not a great shooter but good defender, solid all around, connective contributor, with fairly high upside.
Love his defense for the Pistons but they have so little scoring right now. Still he has to be under consideration.
Reminds me a lot of Isaac Okoro.
Way more playmaking but yeah. Similar build and the way he just goes through screens is reminiscent of Okoro
🐝🐝🐝
Isaac Okoro type beat
Marcus Smart or even Jimmy Butler level upside. With the risk that he can't stay on the floor in important games if the offense doesn't improve.
He is on 6ft3 with shoes .
Stephon Castle as the 4th pick by the Spurs and Donovan Clingan as the 8th pick by the Spurs will be so great!!! Go Spurs Go!!!
Future Spur
If I'm the Bulls I would consider Castle, Ja'Kobe Walter, Cody Williams, Ron Holland, and Dalton Knecht.
Blazers at 7?
Wizards at 2
I think his ceiling is dejounte murray floor Marcus smart
Future spur!!!
Ojala caiga en los Hornets, nos vendria muy bien un chico asi. 🐝
I see a lot of Dejounte Murray in him
Starting to come around for this guy for my Blazers. Sure, we don't need guards but we don't have a guard with his defensive upside.
Seeing the success of the Knicks guards, the Celtics guards make me optimistic.
He is not a guard. He‘ll play the 3 and he‘s defo what we need. I like Ron and Matas a lot too but Stephon would be great for us
@@ezypeazyy if he plays the 3 (and I can imagine him playing some in certain situations), that means the Blazers will be a bit small and have below average to average positional size. Fielding two 7 footers at the backline may help but who's the other 7 footer?
@@edgames7475 I don‘t so. He has proven at UConn that he is a 3. Idc about size if you can actually play that position. Castle can easily guard 1-3. Also we‘re seeing multiple players rn playing in the playoffs who play atleast one position up
❤️ a starting backcourt called Ant Castle
@@VocalChainsStudio Unfortunately I feel like Ant will get traded. I think they will commit to Scoot and Shaedon being the backcourt of the future
Hopefully a 🚀 at 3.
Would it be a reach if Houston gets him at 3?👀🤔
Future spur.
So Anthony Black again?
Spurs should draft him at 8th. Replace Champagnie. He measured 6'5.5" w/o shoes. He could easily be 6'7" with shoes on. I'd take him if he is available at 8th. If the Spurs can get any combo of Topic, Castle, Risacher, Knecht, Dillingham, Reed or even Williams and Collier. That would be a good haul, I guess.
Spurs at 8?
Hate to break it to you but he won't be there at 8. Might want to take him at 4 if you want
I think Spurs taking him at 4 would be brilliant. Then take best shooter available at 8.
@@ed8018agreed take him at 4 then take who’s left at 8
@@ed8018no way we should pass up on Dillingham at 4 if he's still available. I just don't see how Castle cracks the starting rotation. And if he can't crack the starting rotation, why are you picking a bench player at #4?! You grab the kid that's gonna kill people on the offensive end. And that would be Dillingham if he's available.
@@spursgoat84 I don't hate the idea of taking Dillingham at #4. But he plays almost no defense. It's hard for me to see him being a longterm starter. He's an undersized guard in a league that's getting bigger and bigger. But if the Spurs think his electric offense game will translate then sure!
Ajay Mitchell
Tidjane Salaun
Ja'Kobe Walter
Hunter Sallis
Nikola Djurisic
Kyshawn George
DaRon Holmes II
Bub Carrington
He feels a lot like Josh Hart right now lol
I personally don't think Castle will be able to score well at the NBA level, I don't doubt he'll be a stud defender but it will be a long development process for his offensive bag. Could eventually be a Marcus Smart/Jrue Holiday but that's his ceiling. I wouldn't like him on my spurs tbh
He can score. He played in a structured offense with UConn. You can tell by the way he drives, he drives with skill and pace. Of course he’ll need to develop a better outside shot and tighten his handle to maximize his potential but he’s strong, he’ll be able to get into the paint and finish, especially against other guards.
bad take, his eurostep alone reminds me of dwade. he deff has a bag
It's easy to imagine him getting a serviceble 3 point shot and then he's just like J dub
I mean there is a lot more to it than that.
Williams is not only an excellent three point shooter but has a ton of shot creation from the mid-range. Castle would need to build that from ground zero. He doesn't even really look for pull ups.
Marcus Smart
The Spurs need someone like this to slow Anthony Edwards down.
I see Dejounte Murray similar Height good defensively and both weren't the best shooters coming out of college
Cody williams next
Cam Whitmore
If he had a better jumper I would take him to the Spurs
Spurs likely grabbing him at #4 unless Zachary is still available.
I hope the Spurs do the right thing
Do report on bronny!! 🙏
He reminds me of Kawhi
Welcome to the hornets!😊
Reminds me of Michael Kidd Gilchrist.
He just came in at the combine at 6’2
Nah that was a mistake by the NBA. Those are Devin Carters measurements
Bruh he doesnt look like 6’2 maybe 6’4-5 even tho he was lister 6’6 in college
@@GOATVVV bronny was listed at 6’4 on everything came in at 6’1
@@ezypeazyy yeah 6’5 without shoes.
@@E2you 6‘5.5“ actually. That‘s about 6‘7“ in shoes
Bigger better Marcus Smart
Spurs should take Castle and Dillingham. They complement each other. Then slide Vassell to the SF and trade for Spida at the SG
Spurs
6"6 lol 🤣
He’s 6”5.5 in socks so he’s 6”7 in shoes
6’2 according to the combine measurements not good
Nope, it was a mistake and those were Devin Carters measurements. NBA had to retract all the combine data because they screwed up when uploading it today. Castle's unofficial was reported at 6'4.5" and 6'9" wingspan. I've seen him in person up close and am 6'3" and he was clearly taller than me. I had guessed 6'5" when I saw him in person and this confirms that.
you can clearly see hes not 6'2 by watching the video
It was a typo. That’s Devin Carter’s measurements
@@PickpocketJonesyup 6”5.5 in socks so 6”7 in shoes
He’s not locking up elite pgs.
Nobody guards elite PG well. That's why they're elite. Watch the kid slip screens, move his feet, and recover if he does get beat initially. Really good stuff
Weak stats and poor shooting . His defense better be the best of his class if hes going to be a decent 1st round pick
