Just for info. the Skylum development team are based in Kyiv Ukraine, updates to Neo may not be forthcoming in the near future. I am sure we are all wishing the Skylum team our best wishes for their safety.
I don`t do portrait so I don`t tend to open those tools. I did played a bit with these tools in two occasions on actual portrait to help a friend. But watching you playing with the various portrait masks, I wonder if we can fool Neo with landscape photos while waiting for the fancy landscape masks to be available. You are giving me ideas of crazy things to try out. Thanks for sharing.
I'd absolutely be interested in learning more about how to process portraits in Luminar Neo, especially how to get accurate and rich skin tones. Many thanx, great tutorials, extremely useful!!!
I usually never take portraits, so was unaware of the numerous functions within Neo for this subject. Now, after watching another of your excellent tutorials, I might have a go at taking some.
unfortunately Steve that editors can't generally fix issue with the initial capture of the image. Examples as shown in the chosen images are bodies square to the camera, only full face views, straight arms, body/hand parts missing, too tight of crops with male subjects in particular, reliance upon the "model" looks to impress the viewer. I could go one but I think the concept is there. As Jim has always stated, he is not a portrait photographer and is basically showing what the program is capable of and for which he does a very good job and we all are the beneficiaries. Thanks to JN as usual.
Another really good tutorial Jim. I have found ON1 2022's NoNoise AI to be just great at noise reduction. Works extremely well on high ISO shots but also on a more lower ISO.
I used On1 for three years. I gave it up because they came up with new stuff with new problems without fixing old problems. More importantly, I had serious billing issues with them. I got harassing emails about renewing 3 months early, and once they billed me $140 for absolutely no reason. I really do like On1, but not with the above issues. Capture One has fantastic skin tones and now layers, but no compositing yet, and I use Photoshop which is very complicated and has a steep learning curve. Maybe Neo will be better.
@@romiemiller7876 hmm, sorry to hear that and I can understand how that would be annoying. I have never had any issues with On1 though, and I like it quite a bit. But for sure if you want to check out Neo, download a trial and see how you like it. I have a load of videos here about it and there is so much you can do with it. thanks
Good video Jim. Is there a way to emphasize a single color? For example a girl holding a yellow rose but she's wearing some other colors. Would I use a mask to brighten the rose and then change the rest of the image to B&W? Would a layer be a better option? If you've already made a video covering this a link would be great. I also have Luminar 4 but I've not dived deep into its inner workings. I just retired and want to spend some time on my photo editing. Thx
Hi Larry and do you mean removing all color except for 1 object that remains in color? If so, you could use the Color tool, drop saturation to 0, and then mask out the object (erase the saturation reduction from it). That would leave the object in color and the rest of it in mono. Thanks.
@@JimNix That sounds exactly what I'm trying to do. I'll try it out this weekend! Going fishing tomorrow (Friday) - retirement is good. Thx for the reply.
Great Stuff Jim. Can you suggest how to take the Red Eye slider to the next level. I have hundreds of family pictures from way back that are keepers but have that early digital camera red eye artifact . I moved to Neo from A.I. hoping that this feature would be enhanced, alsis, the results are not there by just using the slider. Where Neo is blind to red eye is when someone is wearing glasses. Neo does not really see through glasses at all with the slider. Can you share any tips or tricks on how to punch up this function. Many thanks
Hi Wesley and thanks, but I don't have any tips or tricks for this situation other than just trying the regular erase tool. Maybe clone and stamp, once it arrives in Neo, but removing red eye through glasses can be a challenge. Sorry, I just don't have any novel ideas here. Thanks.
They have a new filter coming out that will allow for automatic portrait background replacement. You could start with a background, then add a portrait on top right now, but the portrait would need to be a transparent PNG to blend in. Thanks.
I usually do a couple in the same day, but this one I recorded early this morning and posted today. But that's rare. I usually have a video ready a day or two before posting. It is my main editor although I bounce around a lot since I make videos on various products. Thanks.
Ok I am going to have to jump off On1 and try this on portraits. Thanks for the education. I loved Luminar 4, all the negativity about AI and finally Neo, I stopped going to Neo, I will have to tr this again.
Hope you enjoy the trial run. Neo is really solid, although not totally complete yet. But it's actually a great complement to On1 in my experience. thanks
Wow .... very impressive Jim. Particularly love that abdomen tool - if Skylum increased the range to 1000 then I could gain myself a six pack lol !! Well presented mate.
Hi David and I have had a couple of emails here and there but not a lot of info. I assume they are ok, and I know some of them are out of there, but I am making a point not to bother them at this time. Thank you for your concern. I sure hope this can end.
When the conflict erupted we immediately downloaded Neo, anticipating the development team may not exist much longer. It’s our hope surviving members of that team make it to Canada and establish a new home for Skylum. Our government has just made it very easy for fleeing Ukrainians to emigrate to Canada and support them upon arrival. We will not limit the number of Ukrainians coming to our country. Our Prime Minister has told the world that if anyone fleeing the Ukraine can make it to Canada, they will have safe sanctuary. Our government will be watchful to not allow pro-Russian agents to enter - we know who they are.

Don't mind me. I did spend some time over lunch but did not go very far. I couldn't fool Neo in any ways on the couple of landscape photos I tried :(.
haha thanks Frederic and yep you can't use them on landscapes etc but I like the way you think!
Another good one, Jim.
I'm finding the portrait features are working better in NEO than they were for me in AI.
thanks for watching Leon and glad to hear that it's working well for you - thanks much
More Portrait Please.... Great Stuff as always...
I will for sure, thanks.
I have benefited from watching this video, Thank you very much. and I request you could you please make more tutorials of portraits by Luminar neo.
thanks for watching and yes I will do more portrait videos

Nice video. How does portrait in AI Neo compare to Portrait Pro 22?
Thank you but I have never used Portrait Pro so I cannot compare them, sorry.

I guess check with support, not sure why it wouldn't work.
