  • Suede, originally known as the London Suede in the US, emerged in 1989 as a prominent English rock band, featuring singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bassist Mat Osman. Influenced by glam rock and post-punk, they quickly gained acclaim, earning the title of "The Best New Band in Britain" in 1992. Their debut album, "Suede," soared to the top of the UK Albums Chart in 1993, winning the Mercury Music Prize and contributing to the Britpop movement.
The second album, "Dog Man Star," faced challenges, leading to the departure of guitarist Bernard Butler. Richard Oakes replaced him, and Suede solidified their place in the Britpop "big four" alongside Oasis, Blur, and Pulp. The addition of keyboard player Neil Codling in 1996 marked a commercial peak with "Coming Up," hitting number one in the UK. Despite internal issues, "Head Music" (1999) achieved chart success, but subsequent albums faced diminishing returns.
After a hiatus, Suede reunited in 2010, releasing "Bloodsports" in 2013 to critical acclaim. "Night Thoughts" (2016) and "The Blue Hour" (2018) further showcased their enduring creativity. In 2022, they released "Autofiction," their ninth studio album, demonstrating that Suede continues to evolve and captivate audiences with their distinct sound.

Of course every band has their influences but Suede sounds like Suede.

He is correct!! Some musicians think they are the fount of all musical creativity and somehow tanscend music itself. They would be precisely what he called them or perhaps even worse.
