I hate when people think that only because they're studying to be doctors or lawyers, they're automatically smarter than someone who is a filmmaker or a painter. It's SO FRUSTRATING.

It's incredibly hard to build credit or a unique style of art now days now that artists have the competition between millions of artists on platforms like instagram, it's becoming harder and harder to get noticed. So sadly if your thinking of becoming an artist you'll need a back up plan.

One thing people don't realize is that art is literally EVERYWHERE, from ads you see on the street to cartoons you watched as a kid up until now. So saying that "being an artist is not a job" just shows how ignorant they are.
When you turn it into your job, you let it to become your life, your love and when people buy the drawing, they put respect to your drawing and they think it's their inspiration That's why it so cool

You are also forgetting the constant struggle of not having the right supplies for your main medium. (I'm an inker and colourist at heart, and all i have is charcoal and paint. Why? Because ink for me runs out in 5 days, 12 if i'm lucky.) Not to mention that moment when you mess up just slightly and ruin a commission and have to start all over just because you fucked up the inking to the point where one eye is entirely a giant black dot. Then you have those moments where you spill HALF THE F#%KING CONTAINER OF INK OR PAINT ON THE FUCKING DRAWING YOU SPENT 4 DAYS ON! yeah, i'm an artist. And i spend most of my time i should be sleeping wondering how the fu k to fix my drawing software so i can deal with making something for a personal project for my portfolio, and crying about how much money i have to spend on the terrible art supplies from the bargain bin at hobby lobby.
somtimes i would draw and i would always get the "can you draw me?" or the "did you draw that" or "this looks like that" you get the picture its annoying and a pain
I became popular for my art in my class and it was annoying. When a another kid came to the class and was better than I was so happy that the pain went away for some time.

I showed my Mom a painting I had done...everyone else who saw it says it was good...she says, "Don't quit your day job!" When I was in school I qualified for a partial scholarship for Art School. My Mom says, "Don't expect any help from me... My Mom wanted some art work done for an idea she had. She asked a friend of mine to draw it for her. My friend was so pissed. She said, "You have an artist living in your house, why didn't you ask her?" (I will love my friend to my dying day for that support and confidence). Such hurtful comments stay with you...make you scared to call yourself an artist when people ask you what you do...make you treat the thing that gives you such great joy like it is just a hobby. Makes you get a "real" job. I didn't go to art school like I had dreamed of doing. I put away the supplies. I got jobs...But always I carried my art supplies around like a secret treasure. One thing I never hid away was that painting. NO, I framed it and hung it on my wall. Why? I didn't realize it then, but I know why now. In my heart I have ALWAYS been an ARTIST! And that painting was a reminder to my soul. NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SURRENDER! and when someone asks you what you do...say it with a smile, "I AM AN ARTIST!" and walk away from anyone who thinks or says otherwise because you don't have to explain jack sh** to people who wouldn't get it anyway. So now, I have to get busy...I have ART to do, because, ya, I'M AN ARTIST!!!

It’s so annoying how some people say how they can’t do art and how they can’t draw anything at all, and they worship your art all the time, but then they say art is not a real job. And also when they tell you what to do, or assume your art is anime. That, and ‘draw me’ are the most common I get.

Damn yes. I honestly am NOT talented when I was a kid I was disencouraged to draw by classmates and teachers because I significantly sucked more than others. Now here I am, nine years after I started to work on prooving people wrong... and all of a sudden they call me "talented" and when I say nope they become angry. 🤔 Like... Yeah, true. When I'm drawing random characters I was thinking about, and then there is someone ask me: "Who is that? Who are you drawing?" I didn't know how to answer, duh! I don't even know what I was drawing, because the ideas just going in my head and I just draw it!

As for stabbing someone cause they annoy youu wile you draw, my brother tried to take my pen while i was doing *my art homework* cause it was poitilism. Heaven Grace I do digital art now and whenever I let them do something it’s on a new layer. Also I was like 8 then so that was great. It’s nearly been 3 years so I’ve learned from my mistakes

Every person (even my family) don't support me in being an artist! I love to draw cartoons but all they say "it's nice but it's anime so I don't like it" or "this won't help you in the future" or "this is on an iPad so this isn't art" and blah blah blah. the problem is EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK IS ART! THE CARTOONS YOU SEE WHILE GROWING UP IS ART! I'M THE ARTIST SO I KNOW WHAT IS ART AND WHAT IS NOT! They even made me lose hope in art for a whole year till my friend started to support me in being an artist.

I get the "is that anime?" one all the time! My style is reminiscent of anime, so I can understand why people might make the mistake, but it gets frustrating when the same person asks you the same question and you have to continuously explain to them that it's an original character and that you almost never draw fanart. I also get a lot of "You draw with colored pencils? I thought real artists used paint or charcoal or those super expensive markers. Are you really even an artist?"

Bruhhhh this brings back memories. I was drawing my friend as a cartoon character and i thought it looked good. I did it as a surprise for her. I showed it to her on FaceTime and she facepalmed and told me to do it over because it “wasn’t realistic.” I told her it was supposed to be that way. She proceeded to send me “how to draw anime” website links. (Idk how she thought anime was realistic?) but like..... DUDE.. WHY...?

I can relate to all of these but especially the last part, Once I was drawing in the library and a "support" teacher came in and sat next to me and then they had the courage to even say this "Yeah um, just wanting to let you know that drawing isn't going to get you anywhere in life and you should probably start by getting a real job" At this moment I felt like screaming at her "OH SO DID PICASSO NOT EXSIST?" Because their art works were worth a lot and they were able to live off it. Still, the school I went to was meant to be all about creative arts or just creativity in normal and I just couldn't believe that she said that to me as well. Seriously what kind of supportive teacher just says that??

I said I wanna be an artist and my teacher said "no I want a real answer. A real job. Come on [insert a cool name] don't be silly." I closed my sketchbook and I walked straight out of the classroom. Crying and the security asked what's wrong and she told me how she wanted to be an artist too and confronted the teacher. I keep in contact with that security guard. We show each other our creations and talk about out ideas.
As an artist, my mom does know that i sant to be an artist/animor at Disney studios. my dad on the other hand keeps saying: "Oh she'll be a great Lawyer~!" i am getting really angry about it. while i used to draw in school and people making fun of my art bc of how it looks (chibis) there was one boy in my class who was the class artist and once i came i...i kinda ruined his and my reputation... people keep on asking me "Can you draw me?" I hate it so much when somebody is watching you drawing but when you're drawing the body shape so it could be a base for the clothes, they will ask you "Why is that person naked, are you drawing porn??!!"
Treestyara Falckayla the same thing happened to me, but I realized a month later she kept the picture. I asked her why if it was so bad like she said but she ignored me and we barely talked since. The nerve of her... she pretty much used me. I haven't drawn another person upon request to this day.
Omg, I have not experienced all of these things, but I can sooo relate! By now I'm willing to murder everyone who says that my art looks like Anime! Srsly! There is more than anime! So true! There's more to anime! I hate it when there's these youtube vids saying "Cartoons as anime" and most of the pictures they show are art styles with big eyes, it doesn't mean a drawing has big eyes it's anime! It's really frustrating. I myself is an otaku but I understand why in some art schools they don't allow anime, I'm not saying anime isn't art, of course it's art, it's just that.... anime is its own style and it's not really creative if you have that "same face" syndrome in anime. I was talking to my art teacher, because she said you should also look at modern art that isn't made to look good. I said then we would have to look at Manga, too. She said, because she was a European teacher she was taught to mostly teach about European stuff. I just REALLY HATE IT when it comes to drawing being a job! People MUST learn that being an artist IS an actual job and only because you don't get a lot of money, doesn't mean that you're definitely poor! Also they have to understand that creating art is hard and sometimes stressful job as every other, artists put A LOT of effort in doing that and they have to be respected! And that's why drawing pictures for someone shouldn't be free - because it takes a lot of time, nerves, patience, skills and probably money. Only because you're talented, doesn't mean that creating art is so easy, it might be quite difficult and stressful! Even though I'm pretty good at drawing, I just don't want the become an artist. My goal is to become a musician one day and I work hard. These things in the video pissed me off so much because really similar ones happen when it comes to creating music being a job. Yep. Some of these things are so relatable. And I’m not even an artist (I’m 14). Buy yeah, I also hear the : “wow, I wish I was as talented as you!” Or the “ I wish I could draw like that”. Don’t get me wrong, I like getting nice comments, but if you hear it too much, it really gets annoying. Sometimes, I also get the things like: “You can draw that or that” or “that looks weird, change it!!” I can make up my own mind ya know Blegh... This video is the truth😂😂

Or if someone asks me to draw them something and they are like: I want you to draw a pigeon with a side shave and it to be pink with blue dots and spikes on theyr back and to be chasen by a shark in the clouds and the clouds to be melting in the mountains over a yellow bear that is riding a black snow man. I usually draw cartoons but sometimes I can draw realistic animals... because people really only see my cartoony art they think that I didn't draw it and it's so annoying. Especially when ppl say I traced it or it was given to me I also enjoy writing so when I'm asked what job I want to get I say an artist or a writer but this is usually the reply I get: *oh..so are you going to do that and get a real job? Because you cant really..you know... have that as a job* When someone says that I go INSANE.

So relatable 😩 This list continues when you manage to get a paid job in the creative field and get orders from people who don't know jack about creative working processes. I work as a media/graphic designer in an ad agency and had that one client.. "I need (elaborate wishlist on the image that needs to be made from scratch) in an hour. Can you do that?" - "No, it will take several hours to make it look good and convincing." - "Several hours? No way! You can't need that much time since it's just fiddling around a bit, isn't it? A little color here, some lines there, you know." *raging internally*
I don't consider myself to be the best diplomat, and my usual reaction (which is usually very carefully calculated) does nothing to say otherwise when I get requests like this. Typically I try to explain at first, until the lines "You don't need to take so long! All you do is put lines on paper!" at that point my response is usually along the lines of "If it's so simple...why can't YOU do it? If you want it done right, it takes time. You don't get anything done right in work if you rush through it. So shut your happily derogatory self up or find someone else." That doesn't usually end well for me later but I wasn't born with a "shut up" gene.
I hate it so much when I sit down to draw at a free period and my classmates come and say "hey show me your sketchbook" and I can't say no to them cuz I'm an idiot. So, now they all are watching my sketchbook and my time is wasting and I planned it yesterday that I would draw and practice art in the free period-

Umm, from my experience, when people tell you that something could be better with ///, it's just constructive criticism. I'd be happy to improve my art instead of staying at the same level. It's always better to have another set of eyes to notice mistakes. I learned that from my writing teacher but it could also apply to art.

The most relatable one was the job one. Literally everyone even my family is telling me that artists are poor and i will never have a life cause of going to art school and work on art.
I've had people say they expected me to go to an art school after I left high school, and still be the exact type of people who would say that sort of thing... I mean, do they *WANT* me to be poor??? Jokes on them, though, art is a pretty crucial part of business and whatnot XD. People always go for aesthetic factors these days.

Don’t run away from discouraging people if there could be something there. In life we have to deal with all sorts of people. Learn how to get what you need from them or the situation despite them. Every learning situation won’t be ideal but it will behoove you to find a way to make it work for you 🙂
I absolutely HATE it when drawing anime and you show it to an adult like your parents. They never congratulate you unless you ask them if they're proud. They ALWAYS have to look at the negative side of the drawing and say stuff like : Why does she only have one nostril? Her eyes are creepy. They're too big and human eyes dont look like that. Her head is so big! While her body is tiny xD 😂 It doesn't make sense(When drawing chibis) They always make fun of your art you worked hard on or some just dont care at all and be like : Yeah its nice then look away -_- Can't you be proud or something? Jee, people take logic too far it starts to be annoying and offensive.. Even if I explain that its not supposed to be realistic and its fiction or something they repeat the SAME THINGS they already said

You should add, "Who's that?" When you're drawing an oc or something else. I'm tempted to copy/paste this comment and print it so when people ask me one of these I can just show them this. So much easier than having to explain!
OMG that last one irks me so fucking much. Every artist is specialized in something, and that they're good a drawing something does NOT mean they can draw everything in this world. For example, I'm good at drawing human bodies but horrible at drawing buildings because I hate technical art, does that make me less of an artist? NO! And when I actually do draw things in bad at with references people just say that's cheating. Honestly I think us artists are among the most misunderstood when it comes to art community (just artist in general, like musicians and such)

This is true but a lot of money hungry collectors take paintings and sell them after the artist dies, so the artist doesn't get any money.
One thing people don't realize is that art is literally EVERYWHERE, from ads you see on the street to cartoons you watched as a kid up until now. So saying that "being an artist is not a job" just shows how ignorant they are.

You are also forgetting the constant struggle of not having the right supplies for your main medium. (I'm an inker and colourist at heart, and all i have is charcoal and paint. Why? Because ink for me runs out in 5 days, 12 if i'm lucky.) Not to mention that moment when you mess up just slightly and ruin a commission and have to start all over just because you fucked up the inking to the point where one eye is entirely a giant black dot. Then you have those moments where you spill HALF THE F#%KING CONTAINER OF INK OR PAINT ON THE FUCKING DRAWING YOU SPENT 4 DAYS ON! yeah, i'm an artist. And i spend most of my time i should be sleeping wondering how the fu k to fix my drawing software so i can deal with making something for a personal project for my portfolio, and crying about how much money i have to spend on the terrible art supplies from the bargain bin at hobby lobby.

I showed my Mom a painting I had done...everyone else who saw it says it was good...she says, "Don't quit your day job!" When I was in school I qualified for a partial scholarship for Art School. My Mom says, "Don't expect any help from me...
My Mom wanted some art work done for an idea she had. She asked a friend of mine to draw it for her. My friend was so pissed. She said, "You have an artist living in your house, why didn't you ask her?" (I will love my friend to my dying day for that support and confidence).
Such hurtful comments stay with you...make you scared to call yourself an artist when people ask you what you do...make you treat the thing that gives you such great joy like it is just a hobby. Makes you get a "real" job.
I didn't go to art school like I had dreamed of doing. I put away the supplies. I got jobs...But always I carried my art supplies around like a secret treasure. One thing I never hid away was that painting. NO, I framed it and hung it on my wall. Why? I didn't realize it then, but I know why now. In my heart I have ALWAYS been an ARTIST! And that painting was a reminder to my soul. NEVER GIVE UP!! NEVER SURRENDER! and when someone asks you what you do...say it with a smile, "I AM AN ARTIST!" and walk away from anyone who thinks or says otherwise because you don't have to explain jack sh** to people who wouldn't get it anyway.

It’s so annoying how some people say how they can’t do art and how they can’t draw anything at all, and they worship your art all the time, but then they say art is not a real job.
And also when they tell you what to do, or assume your art is anime. That, and ‘draw me’ are the most common I get.
When people ask when I have (obviously) my drawing in my hand and ask, "did you draw that?" I'm just like, "I wonder, did I draw this?"

I love to draw cartoons but all they say "it's nice but it's anime so I don't like it" or "this won't help you in the future" or "this is on an iPad so this isn't art" and blah blah blah. the problem is EVERY WHERE YOU LOOK IS ART! I get the "is that anime?" one all the time! My style is reminiscent of anime, so I can understand why people might make the mistake, but it gets frustrating when the same person asks you the same question and you have to continuously explain to them that it's an original character and that you almost never draw fanart.
I also get a lot of "You draw with colored pencils? I thought real artists used paint or charcoal or those super expensive markers. Are you really even an artist?"

I said I wanna be an artist and my teacher said "no I want a real answer. A real job. Come on [insert a cool name] don't be silly." I closed my sketchbook and I walked straight out of the classroom. Crying and the security asked what's wrong and she told me how she wanted to be an artist too and confronted the teacher. I keep in contact with that security guard. We show each other our creations and talk about out ideas.

This is more than relatable. This is like everyday life for me. Artists get put down so much just because some sensitive hooligans don’t want to pay for art that we put our heart and soul into!
I hate it when people say "that would look better if it was a bit more curvy" or something random but they have never drawn in their lives.
I just REALLY HATE IT when it comes to drawing being a job! People MUST learn that being an artist IS an actual job and only because you don't get a lot of money, doesn't mean that you're definitely poor! Also they have to understand that creating art is hard and sometimes stressful job as every other, artists put A LOT of effort in doing that and they have to be respected! And that's why drawing pictures for someone shouldn't be free - because it takes a lot of time, nerves, patience, skills and probably money. Only because you're talented, doesn't mean that creating art is so easy, it might be quite difficult and stressful! Even though I'm pretty good at drawing, I just don't want the become an artist. My goal is to become a musician one day and I work hard. These things in the video pissed me off so much because really similar ones happen when it comes to creating music being a job. Yep. Some of these things are so relatable. And I’m not even an artist (I’m 14). Buy yeah, I also hear the : “wow, I wish I was as talented as you!” Or the “ I wish I could draw like that”. Don’t get me wrong, I like getting nice comments, but if you hear it too much, it really gets annoying.
Sometimes, I also get the things like: “You can draw that or that” or “that looks weird, change it!!” I can make up my own mind ya know

BUT the snowman to have a black to white gradient on them and a skull instead of his head! Can you please draw this or do you need more detail?
And when I am done they are like: I said the clouds to be melting... And the pigeon looks like a dragon!

I usually draw cartoons but sometimes I can draw realistic animals... because people really only see my cartoony art they think that I didn't draw it and it's so annoying. Especially when ppl say I traced it or it was given to me
I also enjoy writing so when I'm asked what job I want to get I say an artist or a writer but this is usually the reply I get: *oh..so are you going to do that and get a real job? Because you cant really..you know... have that as a job*

I don't consider myself to be the best diplomat, and my usual reaction (which is usually very carefully calculated) does nothing to say otherwise when I get requests like this. Typically I try to explain at first, until the lines "You don't need to take so long! All you do is put lines on paper!" at that point my response is usually along the lines of "If it's so simple...why can't YOU do it? If you want it done right, it takes time. You don't get anything done right in work if you rush through it. So shut your happily derogatory self up or find someone else." That doesn't usually end well for me later but I wasn't born with a "shut up" gene.
I hate it so much when I sit down to draw at a free period and my classmates come and say "hey show me your sketchbook" and I can't say no to them cuz I'm an idiot.
So, now they all are watching my sketchbook and my time is wasting and I planned it yesterday that I would draw and practice art in the free period-

Umm, from my experience, when people tell you that something could be better with ///, it's just constructive criticism. I'd be happy to improve my art instead of staying at the same level. It's always better to have another set of eyes to notice mistakes. I learned that from my writing teacher but it could also apply to art.

I've had people say they expected me to go to an art school after I left high school, and still be the exact type of people who would say that sort of thing... I mean, do they *WANT* me to be poor??? Jokes on them, though, art is a pretty crucial part of business and whatnot XD. People always go for aesthetic factors these days.

Don’t run away from discouraging people if there could be something there. In life we have to deal with all sorts of people. Learn how to get what you need from them or the situation despite them. Every learning situation won’t be ideal but it will behoove you to find a way to make it work for you 🙂
I absolutely HATE it when drawing anime and you show it to an adult like your parents. They never congratulate you unless you ask them if they're proud. They ALWAYS have to look at the negative side of the drawing and say stuff like :

OMG that last one irks me so fucking much. Every artist is specialized in something, and that they're good a drawing something does NOT mean they can draw everything in this world. For example, I'm good at drawing human bodies but horrible at drawing buildings because I hate technical art, does that make me less of an artist? NO! And when I actually do draw things in bad at with references people just say that's cheating.
Honestly I think us artists are among the most misunderstood when it comes to art community (just artist in general, like musicians and such)
