  • This video shows how Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast in Australia hides their speakers.
    Music is an essential part of any major theme park. While some park guests may not actively pay attention to the background music, if it were to cease, even a bright and colorful area may seem dull and flat with a sense that "something is missing". Audio in theme parks is vital for creating an exciting and immersive atmosphere and is just as important as physical themeing in an attraction. However, while park operators want their soundtracks to be heard around the property, they also don't want big bulky speakers placed everywhere, shattering the immersive atmosphere. Hence why theme parks often choose to hide their speakers in discrete locations such as in windows, behind fake walls, in crates, rocks and under bushes where they can't be easily spotted by the public.
    In this video, I take a look at the extensive park-wide audio system at the Movie World theme park on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia and examine the different ways the loudspeakers have been disguised and what equipment they have chosen to put in place. I'm sorry about the shaky video and poor quality. I was very conscious of how much of an idiot I must have looked like filming these speakers in the middle of a busy park and tried not to attract too much attention to myself! But I hope it was worth it and that it gives you a deeper appreciation for (the often overlooked) art of theme park sound design.
    As you can see, much of the park's audio system consists of speakers from TIC, but other brands such as JBL, Australian Monitor, OWI and Technomad are also used in some areas.

    Thank you for this video! I am definitely one to notice all of the speakers at theme parks and zoos. One type that was always interesting was the ones like at 5:37.

    Just back from Las Vegas and the main speaker I noticed was the BOSE garden speakers up and down the strip in every garden bed. Must have been 100's of them. What was impressive was the new RCF flown system at Fremont St. So powerful and loud.

    Nice video, i was quite expecting this video, the speaker at 3:59 it look a bit interesting on how it still sounds good till now (of course the speaker is vibrating the leaves on the top of the speaker, you sure like theme park speakers) better if they put the custom enclosure that was on 2:32 on the speaker at 3:59 for a good sounding

      The BOSE Freespace 51 tested on the SNOW AND ICE (OK) and it's enable for use on the homes using home theater system receivers (Pioneer etc, output configuration for the BOSE Freespace 51's on the home theater receiver is Surround Out L-R).

    Every time I go to an outdoor pool, I fear seeing a rock speaker as it is quite creepy.

    • @Chris-xk3bp
      @Chris-xk3bp  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They can be quite creepy, particularly if you're not expecting them! I personally prefer in-ground garden speakers such as the TIC GS3 and BOSE Freespace 51 as seen in this video. They look nicer and cover a much larger area then rock speakers. A few companies now also make outdoor speakers that look like garden lights, they're pretty good too.

      There's also a mini golf course here on the Gold Coast called Putt Putt Mermaid Beach that uses the TOA GS-302 Garden Speakers. They're also pretty decent.
