No excuses for what happened on Saturday. But for context, that 11-2 team last year had 11 players with eligibility left declare for the NFL draft and 12 transfer out. This might be a little bit more of a rebuild than anybody anticipated. Today's society expects results immediately but in reality he's going to need 2-3 years before we see what changes actually come to fruition.

I love that Brent Venables knows what you said "Talent doesn't win games, teams win games" He said it himself in his post game press conference. I think that coaching staff and team takes their lumps this year and comes back next year with a vengeance. That being said, man it's been a rough couple weeks as a Sooners fan.

The amazing thing is this is Sonny Dykes first season at TCU. They are in the same position as Oklahoma learning new offense and defense. That buy-in at TCU from the beginning was huge. Then all the hype went to Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Meanwhile, TCU is just working preparing for the season. Just taking in everything Dykes staff is wanting them to do. TCU was looking to get respect in the fall while the others were talking. TCU fans responding too great atmosphere, sold out crowd. Looking at TCU today I like where they are heading.

As an OU fan that reluctantly drank the Kool-Aid over the course of the summer, I was shocked by Saturday...even after last week's loss to KSU. That said, I think you are dropping truth bombs all over the place about our program and just football in general. I still have lot's of hope for the future, especially if we can hold on to our recruiting class, but this was a reality check for most of us.

I love the comments. This is reality . We lost 2 quarterbacks and 2 dozen players in the portal. We will have to regroup and stay focused. I don't know why Venables allowed his starting Safety (Bowman) to return kick offs (injured) and Mims, our #1 playmaker to return punts (dinged up). Bowman's backup immediately got burned for 70 yard TD pass. Our defense must stop BUSTED PLAYS

    • @islandrepublic9166
      @islandrepublic9166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

IF YOU WANT REALITY…… the Sooners gave up big plays NOT ON BUSTED PLAYS but basic football fundamentals. SOONERS even with the transfer portal should NEVER LOOSE by this kind of margin. Of anything All you Sooners fan ARE MYOPIC. For months every one and their grandma said losing Riley is not a big deal snd their incoming recruits will easily replace those players thst left. NOW WHAT?????! OKC needs to admit they absolutely have blundered all the process when RILEY left. Its actually sad to see a team that perrenially gets this bad without dealing with a sanction. This is probably one of the more stupid comments here lol first off, Oklahoma hasn’t lost back to back double digit games. Second, if you think two games defines a culture, you’re an idiot. Venables has had 9-10 months with a bunch of scarred up Riley and Grinch recruits. Brent’s first real recruiting class is borderline top 5 rn, something Lincoln couldn’t do in 5 years at OU, I think that speak to the culture more than anything. Lincoln’s having success rn bc he’s taken elite talent from teams all over the country and put them together on a team in a weak ass conference, I don’t think USC has even played a ranked team yet.

Riley's teams regressed over his career at OU. His best teams were his first couple... and as Stoops' recruits left, we weren't as tough. Having 3-deep in 5* at QB and WR was meaningless with 2-3* OL. Which we still have those OL... with multiple false starts at home
I cannot explain the last two weeks of OU. I wasn't expecting an undefeated CFP run after the Nebraska game, but to that point I did expect solid tackling and good football IQ on the defensive sides of things...

You are right. There is too much hype and distractions in College Football because of the “big bucks.” Bottom line is this is still a sport and the score on the scoreboard at the end of 60 mins is what matters. The team must learn how to play and make adjustments in a game for the entire 60 mins to compete and win. Too much off the field distractions exist since players and teams need to comply with NCAA rules on how many times they can put on pads and train. It is no longer just about a game. There is NIL, transfer options, culture, etc.

I got a little feedback here when I said OU would win 8 or 9 games this season. Everyone overlooked the fact that OUI has a HC in his first ever HC job, they finished 3rd in the Big 12 last year, was gutted in free agency, and depending on a G5 QB transfer. There was no way OU was going to win the Big 12 this season. I posted that this summer and posting it again now. They will be what people expect OU to be soon, but not this season.

2025 OU joins the SEC. That’s all the time he has to get everything primed and ready. 🤷🏾

Pate cmon, Before the season from you it was “OU will need time this year so don’t expect too much outta BV year 1”
After games 1-3 “Sooners are a serious title contender”
    Now its this 🤣

I don’t really care what your talent pool looks like, the chances of a bran new coach taking over a program, and not having some really bad games is really low. The idea that a coach is going to win the big 12 in his first year is almost laughable. And that is assuming the only big change is the coaching staff. Now add 11 starters declaring for the draft, and a dozen others transferring. Some of y’all are expecting way to much out of BV’s inaugural season.

I'm fine with going 6-6 or 8-4 or something like that.
If in 3 years we're competing for titles which I believe we will.
This program behind the scenes is not in good shape. Look at the players their mentally beat up, and brent has said that himself in press confrences some guys are beat up.
Some of have no idea what Riley and espically Grinch did to players. I knew several players on the defense and they stated Grinch was a straight A-hole.
If you weren't on scholarship he told you to leave the meeting room because you weren't important enough. If you messed up once on a call you were benched for the week, unless you were one of his favorites, DJ Graham, Woodi, Justin Broiles, Pat Fields etc all which are 2nd string minus woodi, once transferred out idk if he's starting but he's playing.
Grinch destroyed the players mentally, AFTER he recruited them to come there.
When Brent is on year 4 mark my words this won't ever happen again.

I will be the first to admit Josh, I came on here every video for 10 months asking you to talk about Oklahoma and you just weren't ready to commit. I get it now. We fans did us a disservice. The program was so gutted any positive growth we just ran with. We now see what we honestly expected back in December. 40 percent of the players are new. Every single bit of defensive talent went to the NFL, 7 guys and they weren't that deep then either. Lost both 5 star QBs and a 5 star WR and multiple other 5 star future commits. On top of that you have kids going from a Grinch system of 3 total plays to an incredibly complex system under Venable....but with Grinch's guys tho. BV is trying to break so many years of bad habits from the last administration idk if he'll have a good defense until he fully has his own guys in place. We might just have to accept we have a year or 2 of a rebuild.

This all comes down to tackling 101 but allowing big play after big play from teams it shouldn’t be happening. But again BV is learning on the job he hasn’t been a head coach being a head coach is different then a def only have to worry about def not the whole team it will take time but I never imagine Al this against inferior teams

Josh sounds like a Oklahoma homer... look at what Lincoln Riley is doing w a 4-8 team, all the excuses Josh is making for Brent V are exactly the things Lincoln is doing at USC.!

At this point there isn’t another win on ou’s schedule. Bv needs to get his shit together or get gone. With all that talent this is unacceptable. They are so god awful defensively and he is a defensive head coach. On top of that lebby needs to be fired. He is predictable. Way to many 3 and outs because of it. Bv and this staff are in over their heads.

I really don't know better so I would say Kstate & TCU are top 10 teams. OU cannot be as bad as they looked on D. I listened to the radio broadcast from the start, first time long time & thought I listening to a WWE event, which I cannot stand that BS nonsense. Times change, I don't.

It’s going to take time to get the soft, mediocre Lincoln Riley way of football out of the locker room. BV has a proven track record to coaching good defense so it will change when we get rid of the bad culture we had. This might sound dumb but the defense wasn’t all bad, most of those big plays were 1 player out of position and that costs u. Just have to trust the process and get better

See its crap like this that amplifies the lunacy that's going on here... "sure Oklahoma has the more talented players" he said that 3 times, this is called propaganda..... this is kissing up to the cottage industry of recruiting, you have all these Oklahoma people thinking they have the horses its just a matter of breaking them in.... wrong, tcu, which isn't that great, I've seen them all year, has better "more talented" offensive lines(not by much) running backs, quarterbacks, wide receivers, and linebackers......... defensive backs are on par..... no Oklahoma isn't the most talented, Oklahoma isn't physical, at all. Oklahoma needs to take steps to being good,, not just jump straight into greatness, shows like this are why ou fans struggle with undaunting expectations, ou has good talent, middle of the road big 12 talent, recruiting services for the past decades have added a extra star to their recruits"after committing " you hear ou fans talk about Billy bowman like he's Charles Woodson,,or bo Jackson.... he's just a good player, who wouldn't start for Texas, osu or Baylor.... none of ou line would start for osu, or Baylor.... that's how far ou is behind the 8 ball,

Oklahoma has had an unbelievable run. When coaching changes happened, it was handled the right way by grooming the next guy and careful planning. And an unbelievable streak of super talented qbs.
But guess what....that's not how it happened this time. Welcome to the OU version of Charlie Strong. Average QB play and huge turnovers within the program = mediocre results. And It's a long, hard road back. I almost feel bad for you, but no sympathy or understanding was afforded Texas so y'all can expect the same in return.
I'll be traveling to Dallas this weekend hoping to see a half empty stadium from an OU fanbase bail on their team at half-time.
