TCU practices the "Bazooka Drill" (which is their name for that last second field goal formation) every Thursday. They do it at full speed, and have since the spring. In the drill (which I have seen first-hand in practice numerous times), the kicker does not mark off his steps. In fact, the whole idea is for him to use the rest of the formation to "frame" where he should stand. TCU executed exactly like they practice every week.
As both a current TCU student and born-and-bred Cornhuskers fan, this comment accurately describes everything I have been thinking this year. Still doesn't feel real to go to school like this.
Great point about “branding”. If the conversation were about Oklahoma or Texas we’d be hearing “even with a loss they still have a path to the playoff”. True story- Most of my life was spent in SEC country living in FL, LA, TN and GA. I spent 5 years in Fort Worth (Hulen Mall area) and was welcomed with open arms by the alumni and fans at TCU. Their tailgating compares with any SEC school (and I’ve been to darn near every SEC stadium at one point or another). That school is a special place with kind, welcoming people. I will always cheer for the Frogs! ❤🐸🏈
Hey josh, former Big12 specialist here. When we practiced rushed kicks (every other day in camp, twice on Thursdays in season) the kicker rarely gets a chance to take his steps. You take enough reps as a kicker with your holder to know your step distance by heart. Looks like Kell took his sweet time getting there but if that kept him cool and calm leading up the the kick then f it… IT WORKED. Also take note of how the field goal unit has all of its own lineman and edges. Some teams use a starting lineman or two, maybe the TE, but it makes a mess during substitution and you might only have 10 or a lineman who is gassed and leaves a little too large of a gap. Credit goes to TCU’s defense for putting the ball back in the offense’s hands, the offense for getting into range in 4 plays, the field goal unit and kicker, and TCU’s special teams coach, Tommerdahl, who runs a tight ship.
@@craigjones9992 hey Craig, I personally choose to remain anon on the internet. It may hurt my credibility to a degree but that’s alright, figured I’d throw my 2 cents in and maybe somebody, somewhere, could learn something new.
TCU's strength of schedule is stronger than both Ohio St. and Michigan's this year. Pedigree pimps think the Big 12 is weak, but it is the Big 10 that is top heavy and weak this year.
