Crazy when you hear Stewart talk about the recording of this song. He states that, at first, he really had no idea how to make the song better because Sting’s demo was so great. So many of their songs were recorded within a half an hour to an hour of first hearing them, which makes you appreciate how refined this performance sounds, given that it was so heavily in the moment. The man’s pocket is impeccable. Perfect pocket, perfect precision. No one will ever do it the same.
3:03 - legendary
All 3 of them were beasts of talent. It's too bad the personal dynamics didn't work out.
Well, I dunno, it caused them to implode, sure, but it sure did create some great music.
I honestly feel bad for Andy haha.. He was like the responsible adult watching over two kids at each other's throats.
It did work out...they're the greatest rock trio
Definitely overdubs his cross stick hits. Always figured that was the case. You can hear how it almost creates a flam effect because he isn't always in sync with his original hit. Creates a cool effect. Imperfections are amazing. Gotta keep em around in the world of drumming.
overdubs or delay? I know he used a lot of the delay on hats and rim during that time
@@ROB-ew6wg yep he was all about the Roland Space Echo. Search out the Jools Holland documentary in Montserrat - what an inspiration this mans playing was
Delay
What you're hearing is the effects track on the snare mic.
@@ROB-ew6wg Delay was Stewarts favorite.Walking on the Moon was loaded with it.
More proof that Stewart Copeland is a drum master!
3.03... that's him in a nutshell..
As someone who has to multitrack their own instruments, it not only makes me feel in good company when I hear the slightest drag from a legendary drummer on an eternal studio take, but also reassuring and reminded that those little fudges bring their own unique charm in the same way something locked into a click (or even computerized) would.
Those, to me, make most any recording more alive with texture and character of the player.
3:03 SO FUCKING GOOD
God the amount of times I played along to this as a kid. Monster drum sound attained by Hugh Padgham at Air Montserrat. I can even hear the headphone bleed.
I read that this was recorded at LeStudio in Quebec.
@@courtbeall7768 Only a few overdubs at Le Studio. Just Sting. Andy and Stewart weren’t there,
@@courtbeall7768 That's where Sting made his 'demo' which was the basic finished track that Copeland and Summers added their parts to.
WOW Stewart Copeland
Indeed, one of my favorites growing up. His stuff is wide ranging and nuanced.
Queen LoveOfMyLife Hi Queen fan! A big 14 year old fan of Queen and the police here!
A king
whoever the engineer was deserves the sloppiest of top because holy shit
Padgham
Awesome!! I just played bass to it!
I think he must have smoked some really good pot before the take. ;P It's surgically precise but completely all over the place.
He is so excellent and so singular
Stewart is a genius.
Hope u get out another bill ward one soon !!!
I'd love to hear a drum + bass only mix if at all possible - ie if you have the bass to add? 😊
Yes, I have a bass track, but I cannot add it to the drum track, as I may receive a notification from the Content ID TH-cam system.
If you follow me on Patreon, send me a private message and I will send you a multitrack of this song.
Yes, you are looking for that thing at 3:03. You're welcome!
I came in my pants
Question here... at 3:51 is that Copland playing 16ths or the natural rebound of the beater on the bass drum? Nice touch either way... :)
This is clearly not a rebound, but a quite meaningfully played 16th note.
Wow,so fortunate to have access to this.Stewart really shines on this one.I,ve always love this beauty.
This just won me a bet with my band. I fuckin knew the kick drum did that over the side stick...😎
Brilliant! So good to hear the drumming on its own! Reminds you how great it is!
Hey, do you have the piano only? Thx
No.
ll be happy to have secret journey and darkness kiboko
I don't have such a track in good quality yet.
I think the 3 of them should hook again in my patio for working out new songs. I can feel they are still in their 30's, not like me. I'm in ma 110's or such.
Is this the actual take? I’m sure it starts differently to this
So cool 😎 & such an influential player 🥰🥁👍✅👍
So Yummy. Thank you for sharing.
A Thousand thank you’s!
Thank you for this. Do I have your permission to use this in a cover version?
Yes, you can use. On your own responsibility.
great post. the opening roll does not seem to be captured.
This is one take only
Amazing, thanks a lot!
beautiful Stew
Amazing thank you for sharing
Wonderful 😊
This is thoroughly beautiful on its own, the overdubs were overkill Stewart. All good though brother!
No steel drum?
do you have the piano track? up it here...
Yes. I have a piano+back vocal track.
@@drum_tracks i would like to see each track isolated.
I would like that too. But so far this is not possible.
@@drum_tracks i thought when you can isolate a snare drum, you could do it with anything else on the song. like photoshop layers, or channels.
I can not do it.

Wonderfull
could you make Omegaman?
Bee Gees?
@@drum_tracks The police Omegaman from Ghost in the machine
I don't have such a track yet.
What skin is that? Looks great
If you had in mind a picture, then I found it on the Internet.
What program did you use for this? I really need to know.
You can use any multitrack audio editor to mix tracks. I used Audacity. And one more thing. I do not isolate the tracks from the stereo mix - this is impossible to do.
@@drum_tracks You mean that backing track is impossible to do?
Only from the multitrack can you make any backing track - drumless, bassless, guitarless etc. From a stereo mix this is impossible to do.
