wow. AMAZING. podcast. I cannot fathom how you guys only have 21 subscribers. If you keep pumping out content like this, your channel will blow up in no time. Definitely sharing this with friends and colleges. I'm in a program thats experiencing the exact mistakes that you've mentioned in this podcast. If only phase 0 had more experience in doing things.
Thank you so much for your kind comment, the good news is we’re about launch our change academy programme and will be creating a lot more content! Totally agree, majority of organisations don’t think about operating model/organisational design in the initiation of the project, the consequences are either a compromise in solution design, ie poorly designed business processes or a really difficult change management process as you make organisation design decisions on the go to avoid the risk of delaying the project, inevitably what tends to happen is…. businesses build their as is in their beautiful shiny new system.
Fantastic podcast, I’m blown away! I will recommend to my followers on Linkedin. You deserve the recognition. Please keep promoting; the podasts are beyond excellent. 😀
Dear Friends, I have 2 questions: 1/ If the HR department has many tasks, does an operating model canvas represent all of the tasks, or does an operating model canvas cover only one task? 2/ What are the duties of support departments (eg: HR, IT) on the corporate canvas operating model?. Thank you.
In response to your first question, yes you have to consider all the tasks impacted by the change you’re about to make, some functions will be impacted more that others, whilst some might not be impacted at all - you still have to make a conscious decision in the initiation phase of a project which functions are not going to be impacted and which roles are not changing. As for the second question, each organisation will have a set of support functions, if your operating model design is the entire business, then you need to spend a significant amount of time in the initiation phase of a project to carefully design roles, responsibilities and interactions between all the functions in the business.
