As a child growing up , I first herd the music by Jackie opel .at. age of 8 I could play a guitar very good , but this sponge beat got me and then came the dragon's 2. not mention the merry men in 1967 who my grandmother chastised me not to play that music in her house. but I was already hook.
Bajans created Cropover and it became a beast. A major success and it created a platform for our calypso. It was also how our style of calypso, tuk music, became the sensation of new soca. I always asked if we had poured the same vigor, development and creativity into spouge, if we could not have had the same success. Can u imagine going home every year for the annual spouge festival? Crowning a new Festival Winner? Quickly, name any NIFCA Winner in any categeory over the past 10 years. I am sure if we had a national spouge festival everyone would know the winner each year. Just my humble thoughts. Lol
