@@UncleBen-fd5xi I’m treating myself for graduating from nurse practitioner school with my first automatic watch. The quality and design of Seikos while remaining a relatively inexpensive watch under $500 is virtually unmatched.
I’ve looked at Tissot as a possible 2nd watch in a couple years though
@gingershavenosouls7 don't do tissot lol their movements are iffy. I've seen some jittery ones ( usually their chronos ) I'm sure their quartz movements are top notch though . 🤙 seiko is better than tissot , they have a real history in horology as well. Look into Glashutte Original for a real good watch later on . The Germans also have amazing history and skill ( obviously)

Bought a lightly used, 3 year old Tudor black bay steel for 2k and it still has warranty, absolutely great looking watch I love it
My go to is grand sieko. I don’t want to be recognized when someone sees me in public unless they know. It lets me chill and if someone knows then they end up being really nice and genuine

Think the Conquest Chronograph is an excellent choice for ~4k. Especially with the brand's history with Chronographs. They were the first.

My Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean is a great $5000 watch, also my Breitling SuperOcean 44 is a good one and the same price range..
Got my first proper watch, nowhere near the budget these guys throw around.

I shopped bintage rolexes... 1601, 16013, 16233 etc but settled for a cartier santos large. So happy with my choice!
This is why I buy rolex...my wife bought me a 36mm datejust for our wedding back in 2004 for like $5000. That same watch is still worth $5000 (give or take). It's not "an investment" unless you're lucky. But it's instantly liquid and it won't depreciate much, if at all. Imagine enjoying an object almost daily for 20 years and having the cost be nearly nothing. Also, if I die, my son has a wonderful heirloom.
I while back I stopped upgrading my luxury car. I felt I could enjoy luxury far more on my wrist. So instead of dropping $20-25k every 3 years... I buy a beautiful rolex and get new tires for my 2013 audi. After 15 years, I've got more that $55-75k in watches... and the car is just fine. No rust. Looks great.
My wealthy clients respect a fine watch. They view a new audience as a waste.

I like the vintage Rolex, Cartier are nice but seem like a lot of money for what you actually get. For that sort of price I’d first look at Breitling and Tudor, maybe Tag Heuer
Tbf the Cartier Santos is the first ever wrist watch ever made and has alot more history than other brands

It is unfair to say Tudor steals or rips off Rolex, when the brand was designed by the Rolex founder to be the little brother to Rolex. Imo that makes it feel less like a dupe and more like an innate piece of watch and Rolex culture.

You don't really have to buy a rolex for your first expensive watch. Buy what you like.

Lot of options in that price range, assuming you’re not into watches then yes, Rolex and Omega, but if that’s the case do not buy vintage, you need a certain amount of knowledge before you can properly identify an actual vintage watch, and the big part is maintaining it because if you’re in this crowd, it’s gonna be your daily driver. I personally much prefer longines offerings in that range, cuz at the 5k price point, I don’t think you can get a proper omega or Rolex unless pre-owed or gray market, and not sure if you want to do that for your first watch.
