      You're right about this one. I can't believe how many people simply say. You're Kiwi now. I've never experienced this in any other country.

      Lot of people here who aren't kiwi,we help,why, because we think they're, tourist's,,those who immigrate,,not so much,, why, because we see it as another nail in our ladder down towards th bottom of the heap as far as our ability to own what we regard as our right,,a home,,have a job we want,,and not lose our way of life,we kiwi's have lost so many family members in conflicts not only here,but around the world,to end up with what we have,, something we hold dear,, freedoms to do say,and br who we have always been,, kiwi's,,now sadly,,the new immigrant's who have ended up here,,have, erroded thing's we took for granted,,and now,we have to be careful what we say,, because we kiwi's, being the straight shooter's we are if asked our opinions,have to now,,not be who we are, because we will,/ might hurt your immigrant's,, fragile sensibilities,,Sad really why can't you all just come here and be part of NZ,,instead of,still,been wherever you came from,,white,yellow,black or brown,,if you so wish our country was the same as what you've left behind when you,immigrated,,then clearly,,you don't belong,,just my thoughts,, don't like it,, don't care,,thats why, kiwi's are who we are,, straight shooter's,,

    Ooh, here's my weird story - when I first moved here I lived in Orewa (north of Auckland). I was looking at a place to rent and chatting with the lovely older couple renting it out. They asked me if I knew a place called Vermilion, which is a small town in rural Alberta because they had hosted a student from there and became good friends with his family and they went there to visit. I GREW UP THERE! Very weird to find people in New Zealand who had such a connection to it!

    Sad I missed this live! As a Canadian living in NZ (7 years now), I'd say NZ is way more British than Canada. Specifically with words and phrases, food (the pies here are on point!), and sports (rugby, cricket).

    • @GrowingUpWithoutBorders
      @GrowingUpWithoutBorders  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah you’re right with that. The words are very different but I feel like the people are more relaxed than the UK.

    Talking about a small world .... I had just got back from a business trip to Taiwan and was visiting Jim a client in town, he told me one of his best friends had just got back from there too and was coming in to see him, a little while longer this guy walked in the door and I said to him, " Hi Bill, how was your trip ?" Jim said to us ...you guys know eachother ? I said, Yes, we had breakfast together in Tainan 10 days ago. True story, had never met Bill before we shared a table in a small Hotel in an off the track city 9,000 klms away.

    Love your videos. Anyone likes to hear positive things about their home country.
    New Zealand is often described as a small Pacific country Its about 1600km long, take s a couple of days at least to drive from top to bottom (North to south) but less than a day to drive from east to west. In land area it's twice as big as England and actually a bit bigger than the UK. But only 5 million people whereas the UK has over 67million. Cheers!
    PS your pronunciation of Maori is pretty good.

    50 yrs.. Haven't quite seen most of it yet (excluding all the wild areas.. there's actually a lot of places that NO ONE has ever been to due to location and remoteness from road/track... )
    It took me 30 years to discover e large army fort.. in my own town.. Wellington (Fort Ballance) and I love old army sites... and its 5 minutes from a main road on foot, and 20 minutes from my house.
    Check it out... its free, and easily accessible from Scorching or Mahanga Bays.

    New Zealand is definitely more “British” than “American”, though that’s changing over time what with the us tv and us culture influence nowadays. Compared to Australia which is so “American” it’s such a noticeable difference between the two countries. Not good or bad either way, just an observation having lived in both countries.
