This is the last part of "The Log shelter," if you have not seen part 1 then check it out first. This shelter was made without any cords or ropes, and with an ax as the only tool.
The YOB !!! I love listening to you talk. Almost everyone in my family older than my parents and one set of grandparents had a Scandihoovian accent or an Irish brogue to one degree or another. You're sending me into nostalgia land!!! :P
Excellent!! Your fire in front will deliver a lot of heat because the big logs retain heat much better and the heat from the fire will rise into it. I wish I could see more 1 man, 1-3 tool shelters built on TH-cam. Very well done and thought out. If you plan on using it occasionally, 1-3 pieces of Tyvek on the roof, side and in front will make it waterproof and wind resistant. It is made of the same material as gallon milk cartons. Thanks for sharing. Cool beans!!
Very nicely done. Looks good and safe from predators as well. A good idea if you did stay long term might be a space blanket under the logs to reflect heat and make very water proof. One of the best shelters I've seen. Wish I had ricks like that in my area.
No, i have not slept in the shelter yet, but i´m going to sleep in it when the summer comes, thank you my friend, i´m glad you liked the video. Best Regards /NorthSurvival.
Thanks, the soil on the sides is a good idea, when I picked the moss in this video, I only took the top layer of the moss, but you should really pick the whole "moss cake", and the "moss cake" is both the moss and the soil that the moss roots are in, then it becomes about a 5 inch thick moss layer, which becomes temporary water resistant, it resists water for about 3-4 days then it will penetrate the moss. Regards /NorthSurvival.

My friend lives near some woods and he convinced me to help him build a shelter. We make a shelter very similar, only we used little saplings and roots that were sticking out of the ground. It is right next to a creek and the ground under 1/4 of the tree is eroded..
It is in any case an unusual shelter, that you not see every day, it will be interesting to see how it survives in different weathers. Regards /NorthSurvival.
Thank you, i think it turned out pretty good, but it was hard work building it, but that's just extra exercise for a Bushcraft Ninja, haha. Regards /NorthSurvival.
Nice shelter, very well done with only one tool ;-) Ever spent a night in it? With a nice fire going on, it would seem to be a perfect spot ! All the best
Very smart to build it next to a rock, the rock can trap some of the heat and stay warm for a couple of hours. I would have also stuff moss on the sides as well, like you did the roof.
Not trying to criticize you but after putting the moss in between the logs that act as a roof, I would I put dirt on top as an extra layer of insulation and to help with rain, also I would put pine boughs inside for bedding and other stuff.
A bit more work & you could build a type of stone chimney & add more more roofing material to make it solidly waterproof. Also insulating the sides would help. A tarp/poncho/sheet of plastic for a door would help as well. A vert thick bed of evergreen boughs/grass or whatever is available would be great for bottom insulation & comfort, always remembering to keep it well away from the fire. Great job North Survival, as you know digging down gives one much more warmth than almost anything built above ground. Almost all of my shelters, in any weather or whatever materials available are underground in 1 fashion or another & will keep me dry & warm for as long as I need it to. A water source & small game, edible planets & you could make it larger & actually just about permanent. Again, great job.
Very nice work! But I am abit uncertain about water in the shelter since you built it in a pit. But all the same very sturdy and nice work. Regards Adrian
its a good start but I would make the shelter a bit higher so you can stand inside I like that idea though in back or front i would make a small fireplace for wormth on top of the shelter you can use a a base of some sort I would also put a clay layer on top to make a more sealed layer for water restintes
Couldn't water accumulate very quickly since there is no angle to the roof? I think drainage could become a problem here, especially for us in Scandinavia. I've seen plenty of these in the woods though, and I guess there is a good reason for their popularity
looks very good , but don't you think since your on the side of a hilltop if it was to rain the rain would go down the side of the hill into the shelter? loved the shelter though
i would dig it out and throw the dirt on top, until it was bigger inside and covered outside. unless its mostly rock, but a hill of dirt would be the final touch, it would look like nothing until your right on top of the entrance, and even that could be disguised
now that would be what i would call a grade a shelter ! i dont think the current floor plan would support such lavish features lmao. there are some thing i would do to it to improve my situation thow ! thanks for your comment and stay safe

Awesome job! Your a very hard working bush runner! Very solid and sturdy design it looks like you could driver over it in a truck! Thanks for sharing.
Great shelter my friend! It will be very marm in the winter when it is covered with snow. And cool in the summer.

Joe McCranie Thanks, a lot.

Thank you my friend.
I think it's ingenius to stuff moss into the gaps great video like the other one :)
Thank you, i hope to make a video maybe next week.
you should cover this bad boy with dirt and make it a partial underground. Would be really cool. Great job.
Thank you. Sounds good.
nice job. my only suggestion would be to run the logs in the direction of the slope so the rain will run down the channels easily.
Thanks a lot.
Thanks.
Nice shelter, very well done with only one tool ;-)

reminds me of our shelters that we built during the first world war

What would a zombie do in the forest. They would be drawn to the city where there is food (humans), haha.
Couldn't water accumulate very quickly since there is no angle to the roof? I think drainage could become a problem here, especially for us in Scandinavia. I've seen plenty of these in the woods though, and I guess there is a good reason for their popularity
Very nice
Watching from Shanghai. Okanogan Forest - "Frugal Bushcraft"

Pěkné video díky. Ve vaší zemi je trest za svobodný pobyt v přírodě? Ptám se proto, že máš zakrytý obličej. Proč? Měj se krásně. Míla

+chirstian lucero Thank you.
Very nice job my friend! Where have you been? We've missed to buddy.
Nice.. did you sleep in it? Any improvements made to it lately?
very cool from uk
Looks great but you should have put more moss along the side logs to retain the heat.
+unirrational Thank you.
Same way we begin to make a snipers hide in some cases.
i would dig it out and throw the dirt on top, until it was bigger inside and covered outside.

+zindi1138 Sounds good.

All you need now is a brush pile on top of it
For a few days.
well done
Thanks a lot.
I can never tell if this guy is trolling or being serious.

+Kerry Ward yeah he totally needed electricity, some tiles, 2 windows, a door bell and a jacuzzi with a nice japanesse toilet in it. :P
now that would be what i would call a grade a shelter ! i dont think the current floor plan would support such lavish features lmao. there are some thing i would do to it to improve my situation thow ! thanks for your comment and stay safe
