    Can it also do masking? Otherwise seems like more prep work to do a menial task.
    1. A person needs to do the tape mask
    2. Person needs to 3D model or 3D Scan the environment (more pricey equipment)
    3. Person needs to program the paint work
    4. Person needs to set up the robot prior to painting.
    Only way I can see this feasible if it was part of new major construction project such as an airport where the CADs are available immediately. Small jobs not so much.

    • @OKIBO1
      @OKIBO1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      1. In new buildings masking is not an issue because the paint is wiped out from the floor in the cleaning process afterwards. The robot in the video is not calibrated the spray is up to 10 mm accurate.
      2. Our robot does the 3D modeling fully autonomously. It uses an embedded $300 depth camera. No need for any external equipment
      3. No programing is required. It identifies the walls in front of it and cover only the surface, ignoring windows or other parts that are not part of the wall surface.
      4. The operator needs to fill the materials, turn on the airless and make sure it has pressure, drive the robot to the wall and press "start".
      5. BIM is not needed because the robot can not rely on digital plans it plans its path based on real scanned and modeled work area. If there is digital information of the building it can offer "BIM to As-Built comparison"-.

      A different company is making a masking tape applying robot, and yet another company is making a third robot which will keep the paint supplied to the painting robot AND remove the masking tape (carefully) when the paint has dried (so _that_ robot actually has to go home and come back the next day).
      There is also talk of making one other robot which will turn up and deal with the customer in the first place, making a team of 4 which can sort out the entire job from start to finish 👍
      They can't do any work involving stairs though, and they can't fit in the bathroom, the kitchen, or get into any cupboards.
      I had one of these 'job stealing robots from the future' turn up at one of my sites but I just poured a bucket of water on him and that was the end of that! 🤗

      @@OKIBO1 oh because new buildings have no windows, trim, crown, lights, cabinets, showers and again, the spraying aspect of painting a house is about 20% of the actual job, the fun part. You need to at least program it to spray correctly, the airless FFLP spray tip you are using is designed to be a 2 pass application, sprayed from a distance of 12" parallel to the substrate. So you should have it lap 50%, professionals typically do 60% for human error, possibly your robot could be more precise with that, I don't see you making this thing work and if you do the cost would put it out of the market, however if you want to get real, I know applications for this that would be more feasible, they would actually pay more than house painting, not to be much easier for you to produce. We could make a lot of money for real, you should get ahold of me. time is running out someone will take this idea from us soon if we don't act fast.

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. It goes along and sprays the body, then the trim is painted by hand. No 3d scanning needed. It's all on board. Are you that ignorant about how AI robots work? Even home vacuum robots map it the environment, identify obstructions, and use an algorithm to plan the path. It would be exceedingly easy to have this robot roll through an entire for of a high-rise and pain all of the walls. Completely navigating and identifying the flat surfaces that need painting, all on it's own.

  • @GearheadStew
    @GearheadStew 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's cool and all, but it's not using proper spray technique. The gun is always supposed to be kept at a right angle with the surface you're painting, the robot is arcing at the top and bottom of it's strokes. That would give you even coverage on the middle of the stroke but uneven and less build on the top and bottom of the stroke. Plus, with the arcing of the strokes it would be prone to getting dry spray in the corners. Neat tech though, just needs some fine tuning... Then it will take my job, lol.

      At 25 sec there was a glimpse of some sort of AI. The key for this type of machine will be when the AI and the robotics both meet a level that replaces the human painter. Once the AI gets to a level it can ID what the job is and adapt.
      The improvements in AI and robotics jump forward every day. These types of machines are not far off in the future.

    • @revolutionofveritas
      @revolutionofveritas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kieranmacdonald83 you don't paint houses obviously. This will never work, 80% of time on a paint job is prep, there aren't too many Professional painters that even bother spraying an interior wall, it's better to roll unless you have a large crew that can mask well. Spray trim and ceilings and cut and roll the walls, you really get a better coat of paint anyway.

    • @kieranmacdonald83
      @kieranmacdonald83 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@revolutionofveritas no I don’t paint houses. But I do employ full time: 3 painters, 2 labourers, 6 carpenters, 10 electricians, 2 plumbers, a gas fitter, and a licensed building practitioner.
      But one thing I do know and as said I made reference to AI. AI is making huge steps every day. Technology is ever advancing. Every day people are working on making improvements to AI constantly. I can see what it can do now. I can imagine what this technology will do in 5/10/15 years.

    • @revolutionofveritas
      @revolutionofveritas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kieranmacdonald83 Well, that explains your lack of knowledge most owners don't know much about the actual jobs, I agree AI is making huge advances, but I don't think you really understand what AI is if you think that it's going to make this robot a feasible business model in 5,10-50 years, none of the issues I missed would be solved by AI, but, I thought you played Soccer, interesting to know about your business though thanks! You want to see a painting robot that is actually already doing work, they picked a much more feasible substrate for it to paint, it's pretty cool and already being used in Houston. th-cam.com/video/MjBFLEPyLFA/w-d-xo.html
