it's hard to pick favourites on this one since i feel like the whole album is a story.
HOWEVER.
my least favourite was Coming Down purely because it made me cry lol its ok
The knowing on this album is my favorite . Maybe if you watch the music video you’ll get a better understanding.

He wrote Wicked Games when he was 19. When he put out House Of Balloons he was basically homeless. Trilogy is a compilation of all three mixtapes remastered so if you want a cleaner mix of these songs can check out the first disc from there.
that's incredible. so much talent and i'm so glad he made his way out of that situation! i hadn't looked too much into his personal life, all i know is that he was pretty anonymous at the start of his career. i really admire that :)
The original are much better as they still have sampling
@@sonnyzz4582 out of the 30 songs have uncleared samples. The rest are cleared. Just mix and match- oh wait, you can’t. Abel deleted the remaster for god knows why.
Only The Weeknd can describe such messed up and horrible situations and sing them in such a way that you become entranced by his voice and keep on listening

Trust me this album was the sound of 2011, truly changed RnB and back then nobody know who's The Weeknd is nobody know what he looks like are they a band truly a magical time.

The Knowing has become one of my favourite tracks ever since I relistened to it. its so honest, sad, grand and down at the same time
basically the japanese sample in coming down is from fate: stay/night and the woman speaking is a character named saber talking to her "master" about why they can't love each other and how him knowing about her past and exactly why they can't love each other hurts her and she wants him to stop even though deep down she loves him too but in the context of the song the weeknd's lover is pleading with him to stop his drug abuse because he knows how negatively it affects her and their relationship with each other.
I love how you show the credits while the music starts and you have the tracking plus the lyrics are up too. It’s a great setup. Great video 🔥 and yea it’s a very uneasy listen but once you get the story he’s telling. It’s kinda genius lol

It's nice to see that you're listening to the original ones. The Trilogy version is a bit different than the originals. He also added one more track to each album from the Trilogy version. Either way, I loved your thoughts and I can't wait to see more from you.! XOTWOD.

some parts can sounds repetitive, but that's only if you're listening with your ears. If you try to feel the music, connect it to an emotion, it's a different experience.
you're right! repetition is used a lot to drive a point home, which i totally understand, but my short attention span outweighs that importance sometimes 😭

When we re-released his first three projects as trilogy he added a bonus track to each one. You should listen to those as well after finishing the records. You don't want to miss valerie from Thursday

Yeah. Twenty Eight for House Of Balloons is one of my favorite songs because of the meaning and the depth.

Need Thursday soon! Keep it up, your in store for a crazy and toxic ride on Thursday. To me it’s my favorite part of trilogy, especially Valerie it’s one of his hardest hitting vocals, to the point in the last chorus his voice voice almost cracks from how emotional it is.

It was very interesting that you catched up a lot of the things that The Weeknd said, in fact High For This when he says "You don't know what's in store
But you know what you're here for" it's a reference for the new people that are new listening to him, inviting them to the world he created. Also in House in ballons in the chorus like you said, he's trying to convice him and the people in the party that they're having fun despite all the situations.

i did listen to after hours when it was nominated for an AMA/GRAMMY but i havent listened to it since then so im excited to revisit it!!
That part in the song coming down that was Japanese actually came from the anime fate/stay night when saber was talking with shirou. I always thought it was cool when he added that sample into the song but unfortunately it was taken off in the trilogy release of it.
The translation to the sample (hopefully im correct lol) is I wish you would not trouble me. What are you doing makes me uncomfortable. You are cowardly Shirou. You learned about my past and used that against me several times. Even when you know my answer. Even though you know my sins.
this translation makes a LOT more sense. I will have to check out that anime!

I like your genuine honest opinions of the songs also loft music the song u said I forgot the first half had a long outro because it's the interlude to the knowing the next track which is why in it he says "I know everything I know it all" both of them are cheating in the song "the knowing" which is why it sounds so depressing this hits HARD to a lot of people anyways liked your reactions 💜
you're so right, that entire instrumental leading up to the knowing definitely made the impact of it harder. 😭
also the loft music outro is way better on speakers with subs. it's still indulgent for sure but it's a nice little easter egg for the fans.

it’s incredible! especially for a debut, but also just in general, great world building & ideation
I've heard, that BBTM's half of it's songs got leaked like month or weeks before album release, and Weeknd was very mad about it, changed most of them to the state, that it got worse than original ones supposed to be.
Idk if it's real, but since I've heard "Acquainted"'s leaked version, I can at least confirm, that it was far better, than the one on the album. If I remember correctly, it's name is: "Girl born in the 90's" or something like that.
And great video, I hope you'll continue your reactions on albums.
Recommend you "Kissland" by The Weeknd, the album is very interesting.

besides Abel being an anime nerd the reference in coming down was just referring to later in the project with the knowing. given that there's also a sample of someone crying in coming down it preludes the knowing.

I doubt it, The weeknd has time and time again put some complex lyrics into his music. They definitely arent an accident.

After Hours is definitely worth the listen/reaction. First time i hear it, i did not like it, nor pay too much attention to it. Then a little under a year later it started playing for me on spotify at 11pm or so and it's now my favorite album of all time 🙂

i’m living in france now but im originally from the US. & i definitely heard these names (the weeknd, tyler, frank ocean, childish gambino) floating around in high regard in my online circles. but i was more into edm at the time so i didnt take the time to listen 😭 big regret, but better late than never!!

so the story introduces the character and the drug fueled seduction of the first girl ,he convinces her to leave her guy .she partys falls into abels world on GTG .the morning she wakes up and leaves. he cheats on her in wicked games . she returns in the party. in coming down he confesses and trys to win her over. trys to distract himself with a new girl he doesnt care about in loft music and in the knowing he gets the original girl back but finds out shes been with someone else and try's to pretend hes not heart broken. this sets up his new limitations and guarded nature with the girl thursday is about,whom we later learn is named valerie
