A low-fat diet is no longer recomended when the patient is receiving pancreas enzyme therapy. The patient with EPI already has a malabsorption state leading to malnutrition and liposoluble vitamins defficiencies, and a low-fat diet would only enhance that condition.

How to gain weight with pancreatic exocrine enzyme deficiency:
*at age 24 i began showing signs of pancreatitis.
Gallbladder was chock full of gallstones.
Successfully removed mass amount of gallstones using natural procedure found online involving fasting for a few days and then consuming a large amount of oil
*Pancreatic pain did not stop. Continued on for weeks (months?). Never went to doctor due to extreme phobia of needles. Sensations and pain were so severe that I expected to die.
*Outside of pancreas was infected and necrosis began to occur
*Rotten material began making its way into my bloodstream, creating sepsis
*Sepsis took a toll on my kidneys, but I recovered eventually with only mild permanent kidney damage
*Pancreas, however, sustained extensive damage to exocrine functioning. Insulin response and production seems to be OK. Fat digestion has been highly compromised ever since this episode. No matter what food or how much I ate, I could not gain a pound. I weighed 140lbs 2-3weeks ago. Now I weigh 150-153. 5'10"
*I made a scientific discovery- chili peppers/capsaicin digests fat on its own. With no external help. It IS a digestive enzyme.
There is a specific procedure that must be followed for best results -
Peppers must be hot. The heat and quantity of the pepper just be gauged and adjusted depending on how much fat the patient desires/needs to digest and absorb/retain.
Must be eaten with source of fat. Avocados and nuts are best. Cheese is acceptable if desired, though not ideal. Will work with oil as well.
Chop chili pepper finely into pile. Eat a quantity of pepper simultaneously with fat.
    Must be masticated together thoroughly.
Chewing chili peppers with a saturated fat is a completely different experience than eating one raw solo. The pepper takes is rage out on the fat and digests it... I can eat one of the hottest peppers in the world with one avocado and not even sweat or cry. And then afterwards have a 100% retention of the avocado's fat. Without the pepper I'd have between 10-20% digestion. If I stop this dietary procedure, the statorrhea comes right back.
My life was miserable for so long.
Low hormone synthesis due to insufficient useable fat.
The peppers allow assimilation of the fat.
I have tried digestive enzymes.. hundreds of dollars worth in just a couple months. Different brands. They would work decent for one or 2 days and then would stop working regardless of how many pills I took.
I would rate this substance (capsaicin)& procedure at 'Excellent'.
It's reliable as well, i.e. it never stops working due to tolerance. There is no tolerance because it has nothing to do with the body.. it's a reaction between the unknowing food and the pepper.
I am not selling anything, just passing on valuable knowledge that has potential to change anyone's life who is in a similar situation as me.
    Update
I have verified that considerably milder capsaicin containing varieties of peppers may be successfully used for patients with insufficient lipase production/secretion. Jalapenos, Serranos, habaneros, etc have been used by me with excellent results- assuming that one does not overeat/binge. I believe this information is relevant because most people are afraid of extremely hot peppers, which I initially believed to be necessary.
Please review my original statement above, especially the procedure that must be used for effectiveness.

A lot missing here for those suferring with EPI. And, a low fat diet? Come on...unhealthy for anyone including EPI sufferers. Instead, Dr. Freedman has an in
depth article on EPI written with Dr. Struyvenberg that anyone with EPI should read. And another really helpful and up-to-date resource on EPI is the book Primal
    Pancreas.

No treatment for EPI? What about digestive enzymes? (Creons, for example)

Top50Reviews Those aren't cure. The cure is to keep inflammation at its bay for months and years, so the pancreas can heal. Repeated water-only fasts of 3-5 days and eating cooked vegetables can help.

Never even heard of that technique. Do you think it would help someone with cystic fibrosis?
