I have to say, I absolutely love the fact that you take the time to go through the physical cards instead of just showing us a screen with them on it, it really lends a layer of authenticity to it
Strikes again with another original and amazing magic video. Love your format! Just acquired Shroofus and have been struggling with direction, so this was a joy!
Song of the Dryads is a great way to lock out one of your opponent's commanders. Typically when a commander changes zones, such as it dies or gets exiled, you could put it back in the command zone. However, Song just makes them a Forest, so it stays in play until the enchantment or land is handled. Heroic Intervention gives all your permanents protection with hexproof and indestructible. It's definitely a green staple, but it's not very budget friendly.
The Foundation Jumpstart 2025 set really did drop some banger Legends. So stoked to see a Saporling Legend. This is a fun deck and I really appreciate your breakdown of your deck and its focus and function
Woah, been watching your Pokemon stuff for years and just had this in my recommended and had to click to see if it was actually you in the thumbnail lol. Definitely subbing. I don't have enough money to play or collect Magic in current day so I love watching people cover it.
I watched two or three videos of your main channel and didn't recognize you at all when the first video from this channel was suggested to me. It was only clear to me from the quality that you already had a lot of experience. I didn't find the Pokemon content that exciting, but your MtG stories picked me up right away!
I love this, I have a extremely similar deck that uses Tana, Bloodswower and Jeska, Thrice reborn as the commanders. Very same gameplan just with a bit of red splash for added aggression and pump spells. It's awesome to see someone doing something very similar and on such a cool commander
I'm such a fan of the format so far. Always been a fan of you. Keep up the good work and thank you for the content. That said, gonna need a PO box to get you a proper looking BoP!
I watched the Pokemon go channel for years. I started playing commander about a year ago, so I’m hype to see you outing out magic content. I hope to see some gameplay as the channel progresses. Good luck on the “new” journey! I’ll be tuning in regularly!
This is a great deck. It reminds me a lot of Tomer's Sgt John Benton deck. Where this deck goes wide, Benton goes tall, stacking all of the protection on him, drawing boatloads of cards, and only needing to deal 21dmg to each opponent with him. It's a terrific budget deck.
I watch lots of magic stuff on yt and honestly, I recognized you from the pokemon vids. I watched for a solid 10 mins on your first vid before I realized who you were. Intrigued in your MTG journey, and here for the ride! haha.
To think, PoGo cam out the year my son was born. I got to discover and travel you around the world. I started playing Magic roughly two years ago, and now look. Here you are. Thank you and I’m here for yet another journey
I about spit out my coffee when your first video popped up in my recommended randomly, haha. Really enjoying the content so far bro, hope you've been well
Hey Nick! My first deck was Slimefoot so I'm happy to see you too share an affinity for saprolings. Check out a fun enchantment called Saproling Burst. Not a super powerful card but a pretty unique one with a lot of utility. It can help you rebuild an army after a board wipe. It can make a chunky blocker at a moment's notice. It could give you 7 death triggers all at once to draw 7 from fecundity. Lots of interesting ideas there. Blossoming Bogbeast is also a pretty cool, repeatable pump effect though it may not be considered budget. And of course Fungal Sprouting and Saproling Symbiosis to double your saproling army.
I watch your two hour long videos on pogo traveling like 10 times. You have an infectious personality about things you like. So I guess I’m getting into magic now.
Current set releases have me suffering from awful deck building burnout. I've tinkered with this little guy for a good month or so before giving up. Especially since most players in my area are combo pilots, and a strategy like this won't be able to keep up with them. This really opened my eyes, however, and I'm grateful for another amazing watch!
Great stuff, Nick! I've had the exact same experience after building Shroofus. This Saproling just goes OFF sometimes ;-) With my first trip to Japan coming up in two months, I need to re-watch your card store video for the best spots. 🥰
Nice build! Shroofus is such a cool commander. Got lucky and pulled a doubling season when I cracked a random foundations pack and I would prob throw that in as a cherry on top but it looks like the deck doesn’t need it and the salt might be too much at that point, lol. I appreciate you using a good mix of old and new cards. I’m really digging your videos; new sub after seeing your last build. Keep up the great work, brother! Looking forward to the next one!
I've played roughly as long as you have, so I recognized that Invigorate and Night Soil from only the tiniest sliver of the cards being shown, lol. Looks like a neat deck.
I might have to pick up this card and see if I can build a deck with cards I have on hand. Looks like a very fun commander. Thanks for another cool vid!
the whole "aggro doesn't work in commander" and "mill doesn't work in commander" really just means that those strategies need to be scaled for commander, and newer card designs like Shroofus do just that
Yah it's a bit unfortunate in my experience it goes; Ppl play a strong aggro/mill deck> ppl complain> ppl stop playing those decks> ppl think those strategies aren't viable anymore. Crazy cycle, but formats are usually better when everyone has access to different strategies. Aggro and mill even in a casual setting kinda need to be optimized a bit to stay relevant.
If you're ever on the hunt for more Saproling tokens, I've painted some for last year Magiccon in Amsterdam, and I can totally send you some. Btw, super nice to see you posting videos again, I use to see your TrainerTips Channel :D Take care
About two years ago I built a Fungus deck with spore counters. I absolutely love weird decks! Shroofus is an amazing card, I haven’t added him yet, adding 4 copies would essentially double the price of the deck.
I just made a Shroofus deck! Fun fact about saprolings: it's a made-up word that combines sapling and saprophyte (a fancy word for fungi). That's why saprolings vary from plane to plane but always look part fungus, part baby tree.
Great video, my Shroofus deck plays very similar, the only big difference is that I use mana dorks that cost 2 mana. These mana dorks usually have a better statline or other useful abilities, plus they allow me to pass turn 3 with one mana open after playing Shroofus, increasing the odds of him surviving the turn with a protection spell. You do lose a bit of tempo that way, but without Shroofus you aren't getting anywhere so it's worth it in my opinion.
As a Budget Xyris player with quite a similar game plan, here's a few that I didn't see in your deck list/considerations that might interest you: Tamiyo's Safekeeping, Defend the Rider, Obelisk of Urd, Tarrian's Soulcleaver (protect commander and let tokens get board wiped), Beast Within, Nature's Will, and Druid's Repository. Some of those might be a bit too slow for your aggro plan, but figured I'd drop them in. Shoutout to Nullmage Shepherd in your considerations, won me a game last night, taking down the Captain America equipment player. In response to a board wipe or after blocks but before damage, tap your tokens to activate the destroy artifact/enchantment ability. One very minor nitpick is the Ruxa, I'm not 100% on the interaction and I could be wrong here, but I believe some of the anthems and spells like Eldrazi Monument/Ohran Frostfang/Asceticism/Warrior's Lesson/Saryth grant them abilities and cancel out Ruxa's +1/+1. Overall though, very cool deck. 👍
Can’t wait til this guy comes across Xyris pump. It’s like this but with flying, card draw, and access to 10 impact tremor cards and clones to copy every combo piece. Group wipe in a single swing😝🤘🏼
Sup Nick I watch a lot of your P Go vids. It’s awesome that you’re playing magic. Curious to see how your commander deck would hold up against a Storm.
Definitely need to buy this deck love any deck I can throw a parallel lives into. Kinda bought 12 of them back in highschool for like $2 a piece as I loved token decks so need more commander deck to put them into.
Long time fan here. This deck looks absolutely terrifying! I tried something similar with the mycotyrant but this just seems so much more efficient. Deck list on Moxfield/Archidekt pls!
In response to your question at the end of the video: Heroic Intervention is a 6-7 Euro board-wipe protection in the same price range as Fountain Port (at least here in Europe, not 100% sure about USD prices) if you wanted to switch FP for a Forest like you suggested and remain in the same 100 USD ballpark.
Recommendations: "Alpha Status" and "Muraganda Petroglyphs" It would be great if you could start showing the games you play with your friends, trying out the decks you're building!
Seems like a cool deck but do you find it is a bit one dimensional? For me commander is more about the social aspect and i like to play decks with a lot of interaction, communication with other players to create the whole politics aspect within commander. I am trying to build a hare apparent deck atm but i dont want it to just be go wide with lots of rabbits; i'm trying to make that aspect of the deck not be the only one it has. That being said i too love mushroom lads so i may try to rift off this deck idea, since it is pretty cheap :) great to see you making magic content!
It’s definitely an “end of the night” deck. Perfect if my brain is tired of making decisions but I still want to play another game. But I agree with you - typically I enjoy more interaction.
@ appreciate the reply :) and yeah I can see it being that sorta deck, always handy to have! Really loved this format of video and as a newish player you revealed a lot of unknown old cards for me to consider in my own decks
Have you ever built or considered building a cube? I recently built my first one (using only commons and uncommons so it was pretty cheap too) and the whole process was such a fascinating puzzle. It's kind of like building a dozen or so decks at once, but some of them have to use the same cards and it all needs to work together. Thought you might find it interesting.
I've found that people dunk on tron and agro but are generally unprepared to deal with it early. People busy building their board and you're already swinging in.
I'm a long time Trainer Tips subscriber, Pokemon GO led me to Pokemon TCG (I gathered a PoGo master set) and like when I was 13, Pokemon TCG led me back to Magic. So your new channel is right up my street 🎉
This seems like a fun deck! Is there a way to give a token myriad in the early game? That would boost token generation even more, and make the deck even faster.
will u upload a video about playing the deck? I think many deck building channels miss that part and never really show how the deck plays against other people
I have to say, I absolutely love the fact that you take the time to go through the physical cards instead of just showing us a screen with them on it, it really lends a layer of authenticity to it
A second video has hit the channel!
Strikes again with another original and amazing magic video. Love your format! Just acquired Shroofus and have been struggling with direction, so this was a joy!
Loved this video! Taking some of the card recommendations for my Ghave, guru of spores deck
just getting back into it after 30 years out and really dig the commander concept, and the way he lays it out by types is insanely helpful.
Song of the Dryads is a great way to lock out one of your opponent's commanders. Typically when a commander changes zones, such as it dies or gets exiled, you could put it back in the command zone. However, Song just makes them a Forest, so it stays in play until the enchantment or land is handled.

Both videos have been really inspiring. I love the constraints you give yourself when brewing these decks
Woah, been watching your Pokemon stuff for years and just had this in my recommended and had to click to see if it was actually you in the thumbnail lol. Definitely subbing. I don't have enough money to play or collect Magic in current day so I love watching people cover it.
Gotta love when cool deck builds do "the thing"!
I watched two or three videos of your main channel and didn't recognize you at all when the first video from this channel was suggested to me. It was only clear to me from the quality that you already had a lot of experience.

Mono green has to be a favorite of mine happy to see an aggro version. Crazy to see how fast you can clear a board if the cards are right

Yo, thank you dude! Hope you’re doing well too!
I met you at a POGO event before I was even into commander, and now I'm hooked on your content all over again lol.
I don't know anything about Magic, but you made it understandable, and now I wanna play magic too, please don't stop those videos !!!
No way he's back! Loving this new channel of yours :D
im a simple gamer, i see a saproling, i subscribe
Hey Nick! My first deck was Slimefoot so I'm happy to see you too share an affinity for saprolings.

Dude! I am currently brewing Shroof. So cool to see your deck tech! Some really good ideas in here. Thanks.
Congrats Nick! Loved the Pogo content, will keep watching the magic stuff!
i love how you lay out your deck and show the cards as u talk about them
Hell yea. I too dont know why the algorithm shoved you to the top, but I'm here for it! Subbed
I've played roughly as long as you have, so I recognized that Invigorate and Night Soil from only the tiniest sliver of the cards being shown, lol. Looks like a neat deck.
Sweet deck tech glad to see you’re making magic content super excited!
I might have to pick up this card and see if I can build a deck with cards I have on hand. Looks like a very fun commander. Thanks for another cool vid!
The algorhythm sent your first video to me. Didn't know you from before, but I'm here to stay :)
Edit: Love this deck.
I second all of this ^
Great to see another chapter in your MTG story.

Mill absolutely works, as well as it always has anyway.

Love Shroofus, this has given me a few ideas for my eventual commander with him.
This deck is so cool. I was happy to get beat by it
Wanna see this deck in action fan since the very early days follow all TH-cam accounts keep it up
Yay another video ! Love the content so far 👍
I loved your pokemom go vids back when I was a teen and now I love your magic vid
Just barely getting into magic and its fun to learn about different archetypes like this!
I just made a Shroofus deck! Fun fact about saprolings: it's a made-up word that combines sapling and saprophyte (a fancy word for fungi). That's why saprolings vary from plane to plane but always look part fungus, part baby tree.
I might toss a Shroofus in my Chatterfang deck, thanks for the inspiration ;)
Coat of Arms would be a great card for your Deck!
You’re making me want to make more edh decks. Fuuuuuuuuuuuu thanks bro.
Great video, my Shroofus deck plays very similar, the only big difference is that I use mana dorks that cost 2 mana.

heroic intervention, for the common good

Sup Nick
I watch a lot of your P Go vids. It’s awesome that you’re playing magic. Curious to see how your commander deck would hold up against a Storm.

You dropped a banger video last time, and when I saw another I had to click.
Yes!!!! I love Shroofus, he is in the 99 in Slimefoot deck.
Recommendations: "Alpha Status" and "Muraganda Petroglyphs"
It would be great if you could start showing the games you play with your friends, trying out the decks you're building!
wake up babe...
I love this as someone who runs Slimefoot
Love it. What a hoot!

YAY! More Magic content!!
Aggro Commander 4 words 2 colors Rakdos lord of Riots
Thatd be cool to see you collab with the proffesor or command zone
WASSSSUUUPPPPP MY BOY IS PLAYING MTG NOW!!!!!
I found this video after watching your previous video
Yoo Nick PoGo! Never knew you're a MTGers as well supportttt!
Would love to see ya design a deck around either OG kamigawa or ND.
Have you ever built or considered building a cube? I recently built my first one (using only commons and uncommons so it was pretty cheap too) and the whole process was such a fascinating puzzle. Here's my comment for the algorithm 💪
Alright Nick, we're gonna need to see a gameplay video soon (please)
I love Season of Growth.
I've found that people dunk on tron and agro but are generally unprepared to deal with it early. People busy building their board and you're already swinging in.
It's "Turbo 'Shrooms"😂❤
Shoutout Shroofus Sproutsire the real one
I’ve been trying to find a Shroofus list and this is so good 😩
Wooohooooooo let him cook 🔥
LET THE CANNEL GROWWW
SECOND VIDEO LETS GOOO
I thought that was trainer tips! I havent seen you in so long lol
I'm a long time Trainer Tips subscriber, Pokemon GO led me to Pokemon TCG (I gathered a PoGo master set) and like when I was 13, Pokemon TCG led me back to Magic. So your new channel is right up my street 🎉
Here for cards and pokemon and poke bowls.
Decks like this are why I run board wipes that exile or return to hand.
You could easily splash white and this would work as a Sergent John Benton deck
I think you could cut 2 forests for a Rogue's Passage and an Access tunnel so even when they have blockers shroofus will always get through
I want to build a shroofus deck so bad, the idea is so cool. Only problem is I dont really play anymore
This seems like a fun deck! Is there a way to give a token myriad in the early game? That would boost token generation even more, and make the deck even faster.
Those interaction cards all all G cards that want to be U cards. You said what you said as someone who I immediately think of as not a U player. Lol 😂
Casual table i love aggro. My karlach extra combat deck is pretty fast and nasty
Yoooo I love shroofus!!
Shroofus got a bad reputation as soon as I built it and played it. It's fn nuts
will u upload a video about playing the deck? I think many deck building channels miss that part and never really show how the deck plays against other people
you may also want to put heroic intervention there as added protection
Nick, you play magic, oh wow
