I agree, but recently I've decided to align with the Empire.
There is game evidence that the Thalmor work to actively create a rebellion in Skyrim to weaken the Empire.
And if you pay attention, the Enpire doesn't send many troops to Skyrim to fight this rebellion as they are keeping their troops on the borders with the Thalmor to defend vs a attack, and to potentially invade them when rdy.
It's also mentioned in the story that the Empire is just biding it's time till they grow strong enough to attack the Thalmor.
Basically if the storm cloaks win, the Empire is weakened enough for the Thalmor to win, which is why the Thalmor support the tensions and war in Skyrim.

I never said I sided with Ulfric. I kill him myself. He is no true son of Skyrim. The empire maintains a hold in Skyrim. I also take the jagged crown and claim the throne becoming high king. I lock elenwyn up in her embassy and make the Aldmeri Dominion blind to the goings on in Skyrim and the empire masses strength in the north. Then I retake bruma with the blades which I reformed And begin the offensive campaign. The Aldmeri Dominion knew they couldn't take Skyrim themselves which is why they incited the civil war and in my game they never will. I kill everyone of them that can escape Skyrim or lock them up so I can keep it quiet. Blind the enemy to our true strength. Ulfric was greedy and just wanted the throne for his own gains. I make no such concessions. I took it to strength Skyrim and the empire because an empire is only as strong as the one leading it. I mod the hell out of my game so I can get this kind of thing to happen and I make myself a hybrid werebear/vampire lord so I am beyond physically and magical powerful along with enchanting my ass off so I'm next to unkillable with my armor and weapons. I never have to transform. Imagine if Sauron and Darth Vader were mixed together but they weren't evil. I know my character has become a monster masquerading as human and I plan on killing him off ass soon as I'm done retaking Cyrodil Blackmarsh Morrowind and the orcs are on our side too. which put the Aldmeri Dominion in real trouble because then they have to deal with nords dark elves imperials and argonians which are cracked in their own right all of them. Us banding together means they lose and I lead from the front in the fight with my people not from behind barking orders. I even have dissenting high elves among our ranks. High Rock is next on the list to free. It's not an isolationist move. It's a counter offensive. If they side with the ideals of subjugation of those they deem lesser than them then they are the true enemy regardless of race. That's why I hit bruma first. We retake Cyrodil then Morrowind and Blackmarsh systematically. remove them from Cyrodil and you have much of the empires strength back when you combine Skyrim and Cyrodil with the strength of the orcs because the orcs live right in the mountains bordering skyrim. Orcs and nords together are bad enough. Then getting more imperial back in the fold and on board with retaking the Capital is even more of a oh shit. Like I said I don't side with Ulfric. I just use my knowledge of tactics to work in my benefit. If the Thalmor are blind to what is going on it gives me an advantage and as high king of Skyrim and dragonborn I have more pull than I really need to make friends with neighboring provinces. I tell them we are retaking the empire and I guarantee you most of the other provinces are gonna be behind me because the high elves of the Aldmeri Dominion only treat their own kind well. If you aren't a high elf ur trash is their philosophy. Time to show them Tamriel is done with their shit.

Fuck the Empire. They are quite literally the only thing keeping the Thalmor in Skyrim. Thalmor soldiers and justiciars dare not tread in Stormcloak territory, as in, you will never encounter non-scripted Thalmor encounters wherever Ulfric has control.
This is because Altmer stand *no* chance against the Nords-a fact they are fully aware of, and is why they essentially demanded diplomatic immunity within Skyrim. Moreover, the legions primarily comprised of Nords were doing so well in the Great War that, despite the rest of the Empire getting their asses kicked, they thought they were winning the war.
Seriously, *no one* needs the Empire, especially not Skyrim. Skyrim is literally the founding force of the Empire in the first place, and is very evident that *the Empire needs Skyrim.* And quite frankly, the Empire deserves to fall anyway because they couldn’t give a damn about the citizens outside of Cyrodiil

Whilst Tullius seems more level headed than Ulfric here, Tullius is actually making extremely unreasonable demands.
Firstly, Ulfric is entirely grounded in asking for the Thalmor to not be present at this meeting. It isn’t any of their business, it’s a petty power play from the elves. It’s quite ignorant that the Imperials here genuinely expected Ulfric to say nothing, and then start to sarcastically say “that didn’t take long” when he makes a reasonable and expected objection.
Tullius wants Riften, giving the Empire access to the land South of Windhelm? And he expects the worthless Province of Morthal to be fair compensation for that, and is insulted that an equal trade is agreed? Bearing in mind, the other Imperial Provinces stop the stormcloaks from safely delivering their silver to the East, so it’s still a bad deal for the stormcloaks.
Wanting compensation for an actual war crime is very reasonable, but there is no trial or anything. Exchanging land for peace can be done in a meeting like this, but going on trial for a war crime is not realistic in this setting. Right demand at the wrong time. It comes across as more of an attempt to redirect the stormcloaks war funding than anything else. Which isn’t in good faith.
So now he’s complaining about the Dragonborn being biased, despite all the current decisions being neutrally beneficial, actually refusing to give blatantly favourable deals to the Empire.
And then he asks for Winterhold for free? The Province right next to Windhelm? He doesn’t expect to have to give up anything for it? Boo hoo the Dragonborn is biased because he won’t let you make demands in bad faith, knowing Ulfric, being a patriotic Nord, has respect for the Dragonborn and is likely to comply with his decisions even if he feels they are bad for him?
Tullius isn’t conducting this meeting in good faith, he is being entirely unreasonable, especially compared to Ulfric. Contrasting what you’d expect, really.
I’d also like to say I’m not a Stormcloak supporter, or an Imperial. I actually think both sides are right and wrong in the war.

I wouldn't say feeing The Empire from having to deal both with Stormcloaks and Forsworn and turning Fornsworn against Stormcloaks instead is bad for The Empire.
Also Ulfric is not working for Thalmor. He just lets Thalmor manipulate him by playing on his hate for the Empire. But Ulfric hates Thalmor too.
Truth is it's fruitless to try to eradicate Stormcloaks. It's a fool's errand. Kill Ulfric - that realistically won't solve a damn thing and the Empire will not be any stronger. Because that's precisely the mistake USA have made both in Iraq and Afghanistan. You must not openly fight the Stormcloaks. Keep them in control instead without really trying to slaughter them. And focus on swaying the people of Skyrim.
Because the Stormcloaks only exist as long as people of Skyrim allow them to. And the Talibs only exist as long as people of Afghanistan don't believe they have any other options realistically. That's the real enemy you have to fight and it's not the kind of fight you win by bombing and killing people.
Terrorists cannot be wiped out by a military assault. This kind of fight just doesn't work this way. As long as there are people in Skyrim believing Stormcloaks can do better than the Empire - Stormcloaks will continue to be a problem and they will resurface when you least expect them to.

Ironically, to me, Markarth is the worst possible trade that Ulfric could have asked for. It’s completely cut off from Stormcloak territory, especially with Riften being given in exchange for. So what he’s done is give up his only border territory in exchange for land he has to go through imperial territory to get supplies to. Bad tactic in the best of times.

    • @JM-dy4ty
      @JM-dy4ty 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

But you see, Markarth is of personal value to Ulfric. As this is the site of his first major victory. (Driving out the Forsworn)
This moment was the one that made me realize that Ulfric is unfit to be High King of Skyrim, back when I played the game for the first time. What he Shows here, is that his own ego and personal glory matters more to him then his people. Who should be any good rulers first priority.
He may talk big about wanting to free the people of Skyrim, but ultimately, the only person Ulfric Stormcloak cares about is Ulfric Stormcloak.
(I did force myself to play through the civil war quest as a stormcloak on a different playthrough later, and that only drove the final nail into the coffin. While I may morally agree with the rebel cause on principle, the pragmat in me cannot allow this fanatic maniac and his lipspittles to rule.)

    • @fanamatakecick97
      @fanamatakecick97 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Markarth is a Catch 22. Morthal is the objectively worse deal, and he has no option to keep Riften
So, in the event of losing something to gain something else, it doesn’t matter that Markarth is a bad deal, because it’s the best deal on the table. Ulfric, unlike Tulius, is more than capable of taking what he can get
Tulius was the first to make demands, and his demands were all irrationally beneficial to the Empire, and views neutrality worse than Ulfric does

Markarth might be a personally driven gain, but it’s (in lore) significantly easier to gain control of it this way than what the Dragonborn has to do to do it normally.
So, no, this decision does not back up your thoughts for Ulfric being unfit for Skyrim as High King. Do you know what *does* suggest him to be fit? Listen to his war talks with Galmar. He is a very similar character to Ulysses S Grant. Mourning the lives of his men who died under his command.
Truthfully, if it was not for the constant reassurance of his men, Ulfric would be demoralized by the costs. Seriously, listen to his conversations with Galmar, ask him why he fights. You’ll find no e of it is rooted in a cult of personality. If it was, he wouldn’t be willing to let the Moot decide

@@fanamatakecick97 I never said that Ulfric has no redeeming qualities at all. Far from it. He is a pretty well written charackter.
I enjoy him as a three dimensional antagonist, with an understandable motivation.
However, the fact that he does care about his men and finds comfort in their encouragement, does not negate the fact that he is dilusional about his goals. When he wins the civil war, he and Galmar start talking about their future plans to invade the Empire and then the Summerset Isles. Even if they wait doing that for a couple of years, Skyrim wont be able to fight the entire Aldmeri Dominion on its own. Even if they manage to make an alliance with Hammerfell, as some people suggested.
Both those nations are still weakened from the recent wars and civil unrests, while Summerset, Elsweyr and Valenwood have had two decades to recover and rebuild their armies from the great war. (And if they convince Black Marsh to join them, humanity is thuroughly fucked. The Argonians have prooven during the last century that they are a force to be recond with. Both the empire and the dominion have been trying to get them to join their side for years.)
So in summery, Skyrim is weakened, Hammerfell is weakened, High Rock is to politically splintered to be of much help and if Ulfric wins the Civil war, the empire is going to be useless as well.
If the Stormcloaks try to play conquerers, they are going to march to their doom. Potentially dooming all races of men along with them. All because Ulfric ultimately cares more about being seen as the great hero of this age and be the next Talos/Ysgramor/Pelinal Whitestrake, then he cares about the warriors who carried him to victory.
Plus, given Ulfric's track record of trying to emulate Tiber Septim/Talos and what he has done during the Markarth incident, I fear for what he might do to the civilian Altmer, should he by some unlikely miracle succeed in his conquest of Skyrim's enemies.
As for the Moot; why wouldnt he let the other Jarls make his position of High King official? After he has replaced every Jarl loyal to the empire with his own loyalstist, who would vote against him. You really can't give him points for playing a game he has rigged in his favor.

I don't think I ever had the Thalmor attend the meeting hmmm and honestly from and intellectual standpoint you should want to exclude them. The Thalmor are obsessed with ruling the kingdoms of men in fact the desire to enslave them as the Ayleids did. The Thalmor have an angle on Ulfric as you learn from his dossier and they dictate the actions of the empire ultimately. The Dragonborn is the greatest weapon the humans have against the Aldmeri Dominion and all of Mer kind therefore he commands their fear, he holds a power not even their greatest sorcerers can acquire the power to use the language of dragons no the language of gods and the power to befriend or dominate and command dragon kind. The Dragonborn is the tipping factor in the war for the control of Tamriel. Besides Talos there isn't a known Dragonborn outside of the first age and they came from a time when the Dragon Cult and Ysgramor ruled and protected skyrim with profound strength and the elves were afraid of them because they could not march over them and enslave them. The Dragon Born is like the only chance the empire and the rest of humanity has to be free from another coming of the Ayleid Empire he is way more important and has a bigger destiny than just beating Alduin. As the last Dragonborn he has to be humanities champion against the endless servants of the Daedra that would see humanity enslaved or destroyed. Some fans forget a good handful of the Daedra are committed to destroying the creations of Lorkhan's deception upon the Aedra in the creating of mundus which includes Humanity. If Elder Scrolls 6 doesn't go in on this I would be disappointed. Some fans don't even know no other race than a human one can be canonically Dragonborn the other options are just for the roleplay of the player and this is due to the fact that those races were not created with the gifts of the gods that humanity was, I am curious about the story of how powerful the first Man or Woman was because they would have the purest 1st hand power of these gifts not some deluded power over descended lineages going thousands of years. If this upsets anyone I don't care that's just a lore fact the Elves and kind of Mer existed before the creation of mundus it's literally inspired By Tolkien's Silmarillion story of how the Elves were the first creations and they lived with the gods before the world was actually created.

Extremely unreasonable, unfounded, and he views neutrality with more hostility than Ulfric does, as is evident by OP’s choices literally being the most neutral option.
You hear how Galmar refutes the accusations of what happened at Karthwasten? It’s because he genuinely can’t believe his own comrades would do such a thing

You only get this quest if you haven't yet done the Battle of Whiterun by the time you get to the main story quest to trap the dragon.
Balgruf doesn't want to let you use the castle because he's worried one side of the civil war or the other will take advantage of the city guard being distracted to take the city by force. If Whiterun is already controlled by one side then that's not a concern.
