Same here. I'm definitely better off dead but these old S and E episodes make me remember the times as a toddler that were special at times

Candice Bergen received her only Oscar nomination for Starting Over so apparently the Academy disagrees with Siskel. I think Apocalypse Now is one of the greatest films ever made. Years later, Siskel said he would have changed and voted Thumbs Up for Apocalypse Now.

@@branagain nomination or not I have to agree with Gene her role was a big fat nothing. Not her fault the role was poorly written and just goes to show what a big fat nothing Oscar nominations were and are. Starting Over is one of my favorite movies but her character was the movies only weak point.

The one where Gene flubs on Apocalypse Now!

Why would Siskel give away the plot of "When a Stranger Calls"?
Dude, just because you hated the movie doesn't mean you have to wreck it for everyone. It's a pretty good movie. It's okay for movies to be pretty good.
Sometimes what you are looking for is a pretty good movie with great actors. And Carol Kane is incredible in everything she's in.

I've been subbed to you for a couple of years, I love that you do this! But isn't this episode on the channel already? Not that I'm complaining!

I remember even as a little kid Bo Derricks braided hair starting a fashion trend with other women trying it out. I also remember even as a little kid thinking that it just didn't look good on most women. Just something that this movie triggered from deep in my mind from 45 years ago.

Couple of nice Dogs of the Week on THIS episode. Regarding City on Fire, MST3K trashed that monstrosity during its first KTMA season ... deservedly. It was co-written by Jack Hill of Spider Baby fame, however. Sheesh. But it was one of several movies from that first year that I wish the guys had riffed later in the series with a full writing staff behind it.
Then The Seven Brothers Meet Dracula. Yeah. It is kinda dumb and didn't do a good job making Dracula a decent threat. Not sure if it's true that Peter Cushing never appeared in the Hong Kong footage, though. It's the American version of the only Hammer film that does NOT star Christopher Lee as Dracula, The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. Maybe the American version sliced more than a few shots of Cushing out of the film, but I do remember seeing him interacting with the Brothers (and one sister, who at least was kinda cute). But it's been too long since I've seen either version, so I'm kinda at a loss. Let's just say a Hammer Dracula film without Christopher Lee is not worth considering.

I think Apocalypse Now is great until Kurtz arrived. The stage is cleared for Brando's tedious, writer monologues. Brando's performance is nothing of note either, he's half asleep.

Gene and Roger virtue signalling way back in 1979! Some of the criticism of When a Stranger Calls is asinine.
