I don't have a non ethanol option, but the plain old red StaBil, generator tank (plastic) and storage tanks as full as I can manage, and running the carb dry have served me well since I bought it in '98. I also drag my generator out for even the short duration outages we get a couple times a year, it's a good load test, and I make it a point to drag it out and run it 20 minutes a month. I also suggest one of the $15 tach/hour meters to make sure the governor stays in spec and refresh your memory when it comes to maintenance. Being in the snow belt, I find a 5W-40 synthetic oil works in all seasons. The old, cast iron, flathead Briggs will never die.
I believe in “ sea foam “ - I think it’s better than “ sta bil “ - sta bil is good for a while - I used sea foam for about 10 years and I leave the gas in my lawnmower - next spring it starts up and runs good
Rich happy Thanksgiving ❤❤❤ Lots of good food and lots of good people. 😊😊😊 Enjoy your videos 👍👍👍 Take a break and relax 🍸🍸🍸 All the best to you and your family 🥰🥰🥰
Hey Richard, I have that same generator. I would suggest making a heat shield from aluminum to go between the muffler and the alternator. That cat muffler gets HOT and the heat will soak into the gen head and eventually kill the windings and slip rings.
👍👍 good stuff. I had a couple outages a few years ago in a short period of time. I got so annoyed taking the lines on and off to drain it out, put a tee and they shut off on mine with a dedicated drain hose. Happy turkey day
You can run a bit of premix fuel before hibernation. Shake it around, run it dry. Fuel evaporates, leaves oil behind. Works well on my motorcycle, as well as on my fun car. You can dilute it 1:100 wont hurt nothing.
Great tips👍🏻 and if followed, will save a ton of headache! I'd also add to check/clean the air filter and change the oil. Since the next time one needs their generator, they likely won't check or change those things before use in an emergency situation. Happy Thanksgiving!
Never even thought about protecting the empty tank. Always more to learn.
Thanks!
"... a beer's worth of time..." nice! Great and timely reminder. Did not know the WD40 trick. Will Do! Thanks so much. Happy Thanksgiving!

You're right. The old Briggs are legendary for running forever.

@@tinkergene I keep sea foam around as a 'tune up in a bottle' and a fuel system cleaner, but I've never had great luck with it as a stabilizer.
Happy Thankgiving Richard!!
This is the kind of thing they should be teaching in high school.
Rich happy Thanksgiving ❤❤❤

What are you cooking today?
Mac and cheese and dressing. Ex-wife got a Traegger last year and loves to use it now. Turkey was well above average.

Thanks Richard. One sat a my dads for 2 years. We had to clean out the carb and we were lucky to get it going again
At least You Bought a Generac 😀😇😀 Richard 👍🏼 Happy Thanksgiving Brother

Good solid tips!
Thank you Sir great information. Is there anything different to do with a 2 cycle for "winterizing"?
Great advice Richard!!
Use alkylated gas for storm use only generators and fill them up to the brim. A bit of an extra cost, but it will remove all future headaches.

Yes, I should have included a maintenance reminder.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Appreciate the good information.
well said. smart move
Do you need to follow your winterizing steps if you run the generator once a month for an hour or so with variable loads on it for maintenance?
Any special considerations for a tri-fuel generator? Mine's been run a little bit on nat gas, and it's never had a drop of gasoline in it.
Happy Thanksgiving
